Well, the raider is MADE for that. The raider is supposed to be the only class that can go indoors and just straight up shoot a heavy to death. The only other options are either kiting as inf or get another heavy down there. Heavy on heavy is just 50/50 and inf kiting is kind of hard of the heavy is even the least bit clever and nearly impossible if there's more than one. If you run into a scrambler in a corrider you are supposed to loose if you're of equal skill.
And I find it ironic that there's so much whining about brutes being so weak on the T:A forums, when the entire defence will team up to take you out as soon as you show your face... If they actually thought brutes where weak they'd just let them run around.
And Adrius is right. If you can distract their entire team for 5-10 seconds you're doing as much or more damage than an orbital, even if you don't get a single kill. An orbital will keep the defence busy for just a couple of seconds and then 5s respawn, but it will usually only get half of the defenders.
As always when both you and the opponent knows you're outpowered you are the one calling the shots. You decide where you go, which way and when. They can either follow you or disengage. If they follow you they are predictable and you should be able to get the upper hand or get a free shot at them (repeating this is kiting) and if they disengage you've wasted their time without them doing any damage and without you loosing your time input (travel time). If you're offence that's a win. If you can distract the defenders you are of use. And if they do disengage you can just regen and attack again.
But I agree... it's friggin impossible surviving as brute... they will just swarm you with all they've got.

I can see how dying isn't a lot of fun though... even though you're a big credit to your team.
Especially when you're up against those people who VGTG VGTG VGTG every time they kill you.

I doubt it's an anti-brute hate crime sort of thing. As I'm skiing in from a distance they probably just assume I'm a Jug. Heavies in general are prime targets because they're easier to hit though. I can get kills in easily enough but I have a very hard time getting any streak going cause I get raped too much. Again, I'm still pretty reckless with my turns and I end up getting snagged a lot. I also gotta stop being a douche and trying to run into a doorway when I know somebody is directly on my tail. They know exactly where I'm headed and it makes me easy prey. Just silly impatience on my part since I know once I'm inside I'm automatically more awesome. Trade blows with a light or medium inside? No problem. Take a mortar in the face? Capital idea.

Actually, earlier today I caught a mortar. Carrier was just about to cap as mortar was about to land, so I just flew up and forward into the mortar, preventing it from even have the possibility to kill our carrier. Felt like a god, shielding my little fella.
Quote: Taking down a dedicated flag defence consisting of several people should require more than one person.
Oh it does... if they defence has the right composition. A doombringer (forcefields and mines will prevent 90% of all speedgrabs, and with a skilled HoF you'll prevent even more, as long as defences are up), a tech(repairing and turrets can stop most slow grabs) and a sentinel(drop jammers and will clean up the remaining percentages) is all the actual defence you need. The other defenders should be defending the other defenders, fending off attacking infiltrators, chase the flag carrier (if needed), defend the gener ONLY WHEN IT'S BEING ATTACKED and propably most importantly; hunt down juggers.
Quote: I doubt it's an anti-brute thing. As I'm skiing in from a distance they probably just assume I'm a Jug.
Maybe... I usually don't go to the enemy base as the other heavies, unless I build up speed and just crash down the gener room before they can do anything.

I just dropped a tactical on your flag with cappers moving in on my command.
Everything is dead for 3500 credits, capper gets flag and VGWs home.
Most competitive play actually ban tacticals/orbitals.

Played some PTH today.
I kinda understand why these people whine all the time. 9/10 of my awesome 250+ Sanic routes are ruined by llamas that refuse to listen to my VFF VFF VFF.
Got a 327 km/h grab with the Shrike in actual game though... people were like TELL ME YOUR SECRETS. They will never know my Shrikey secret, they will think I have the mother of all routes.

I should go into roam mode and try to really master some of my brute speed grab routes... not because they're that good, but because of awesome... and I totally bypass mines, HoFs and force fields by having a huge gun and not caring if I pass through both force fields and a couple of mines becuase I'm a shielded brute...

I know how you feel... It's the main reason I never play pathfinder. The pathfinder has the easiest job, if the rest of team is doing theirs, and the impossible one if they're not... on the other hand, that was the most annoying game of all time. Especially since we had such a run going for a while there, with me distracting and killing of all of the defence just before you schwoop in and then I kept all of the chasers at bay. Me doing the dirty work and you taking the glory. Just shows me how much VGS I still have to learn.
And from that we went to a game where VFF apparantly meant "Llama as fast as you can! Preferably as bad as possible as well!" I managed to get us a cap, got frustrated and rage quit for the second time in my entire life. I was holding of half their team as they went chasing as our carrier just took a stroll across the map in a lasy 60 sanics... and he inevitably died, another one walks up to the flag, flies straight up in the air, using all of his jet fuel and lands on top of one of the bumps on Katabatik. After I facepalmed hard enough to consider visiting a chiropractor for my sudden neckproblems I was annoyed at the crack in my visor that appeared at that same time. As the other guy died 20s later and a 100m over I went full nerd rage on them! My vision zoomed in and I couldn't see anything on my screen and 20s later the accolades were still streaming in as I capped that mother f****r; blueplate, blueplate, double kill, triple kill, air mail, quatra kill, rampage, team kill, flag capture, flag defender, double kill, flag defender, shout "UUARGH!" in the chat and make a proud ragequit.
As I regained control of myself I cannot help but wonder... if I want to go there again. Then I just decided to follow the example of Adrius, and will now acquire some drinks. A cool, cool ale preferably, but we'll see.
T:A rage: partially vented.
Quote: Are people still snowing about llama caps?
As long as the llamas are of such quantity and of such quality, the rage will continue. Justifiedly so, if I may say so myself.

@Omega: Yes. YES
It's beyond annoying when you have a coordinated flag grabbing team consisting of escorts, cappers and flag-base raiders coming in and some random rank 8 dude grabs the flag and gets killed 2 seconds later.
OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
MAXLILL I HATE YOUR GUTS. I will remember your name forever!
@Shares: Yes... I felt your rage guiding your aiming hand... demolition expert was nice.
*pours himself a glass of Cap'n Morgan*
EDIT:
I got so mad at one of our team's llama cappers that I flew by him, matched his speed and then started frantically shooting him in the face several times with my shotgun just to demonstrate just how easy it is to kill his slow ass.

I thought you meant llama "cappers".
And being lucky enough to cap with a llama still doesn't make it right.
The only time a llama is justified is for e-grabbing. I proudly do it as an INF.

A llama cap can be successful in the following instances:
1. You're a heavy and they only shot spinfusors at you, which propelled you forward.
2. There's no enemy team(or at least no chasers).
3. You have some excellent escort that prevents the chasers from doing their job.
I'm usually involved in the third one, since keeping several chasers off from the... "capper" is usually quite easy, and if there's more than three guys I can't really expect to do anything on my own.
Then I see three times where a llama grab can be acceptable as a substitute for a speed grab.
1. There are no enemies around you at all, you're full on health and energy and there are no incoming grabbers at all. If you have not monitored what's been said in the chat for the latest 30s you are not allowed to llama, with the possible exception of:
2. E-grabs
3. The flag is not in the flagstand and is either closer to your base, undefended or in an inconvenient location and you want to get it out of there. Several times have I just grabbed the flag when it's been pushed into a corner and is now guarded by three people just snuck up on them as inf, picked it up and thrown it at them.
@Adrius: Now that I think about it, it was propably a sympathy rage. Being on offence I saw you coming in and constantly being denied. I am also the explaination of why a lot of them were right before you grabbed it. Did you notice that the enemy had a quite solid defence and ~4 chasing pathfinders with thrust pack? 'Cause they were usually busy or dead when you schwooped on by. Too bad a 5s head start won't save a llama... and seeing somebody else be in such a frustrating position fed my sympathy rage.
EDIT: This would explain why I raged in the first place. I'm not the type of pony everypony should know person that rages, but it wasn't my rage... it was your rage.

In theory it sounds like a good idea to have a fat heavy initially grab the flag in the middle of a kill zone and then make a quick switch over to a Crackfinder. Like, you could have it planned that the heavy grabs it and then the light moves in, already moving extremely fast, from behind the base and then starts instantly heading back home. A lot of times you see the Cracker grab the flag and then they have to continue heading in the same direction before making a wide turn. Diving in at 300+ km/h doesn't always work depending on what kind of special love toys they have waiting for you. Then again, I guess you can just orbital strike and then move in, but those cost credits.
I think it's just hard to get that level of coordination among a group of strangers, so easier strategies end up being used.

If players are raging, why keep playing the game? I noticed that about myself in Team Fortress 2 and Tribes: Ascend. I would get really angry about something trivial and yet keep interacting with the game that made me upset.
Is a game really that much fun when you get so angry with it all the time? Really?

Quote: A lot of times you see the Cracker grab the flag and then they have to continue heading in the same direction before making a wide turn.
The great thing about Shrike grabbing is that I can grab with 300+ sanics in whatever direction I want and clear the flagstand myself.
On Katabatic I can cross the map in 5 seconds. I don't even dare do it on Arx Novena cuz I simply go too fast.
Every time I get 3150 credits I switch Reach to Wheel Deal and grab a Shrike. VROOOM VROOOOM.
You don't see that move too often... weird cuz it's the best solo grabbing technique I've found.
@Omega: Cuz the awesome times we have with the game outweigh the bad ones. Also ranked servers shouldn't be too far away now. Rank 20+ players rarely annoy me.
Quote: Did you notice that the enemy had a quite solid defence and ~4 chasing pathfinders with thrust pack?
Honestly... no
I was full of PTH courage thinking "I SIMPLY GO TOO FAST FOR THEM!".
