I played around a bit with a soldier again and I can understand why mortars piss people off to no end, particularly the lighter classes. The radius on them is such a pain in the ass. You can be several meters away from it when the blast goes off and it will still **** you up. It's probably more useful to chuck it around at people than to actually use it for its intended purpose. They're slow but it's not like you need to actually come even close to hitting somebody.

Meh... If they're just spamming all you need is a bit of timing and they're just a slower and easily dodgable grenade in reactive combat. They are annoying however, when you step around a corner the instant they explode... there's no real avoiding it and there's no real skill involved at all... hurrah...

It's the best class in the game imo... any team can benefit from one.
Since midfield combat is practically unheard of it's boringly easy to play as well. Sure some people might come after you once in a while, but you never have any dedicated midfielders so you don't really have to worry... you'll get to fire off 5-10 mortar shots at the flagbase before they catch you anyway.
And if you're in a gen room... ah it's so easy. Just spam mortar at entrances and reap kills. Oh noes I got killed by an INF, let's spawn 5m away and shoot a mortar shot right into the gen, BOOM, REVENGE! VGTG!

I just realized that the only reason INF is still viable is because we're still playing in PUBs... most people haven't unlocked all the things that counter INFs.
Once we start playing with only rank 25+ players there will be even more Motion Sensors and Drop Jammers and Scramble Packs and Thumpernicians and mines and general spam-every-corner-just-in-case.
Cuz honestly... when the enemy team has a Scramber coupled with motion sensors and turrets I just give up. It's not worth the humilation.

Well, scramblers have so short range and rarely go around with their jammers on, unless they think there's an inf nearby and I mostly see motion sensors and turrets as a small delay. Thumpernicians will propably be rare, since people in a "real" match will realise that it's not really viable to have 4 techs in a team and scramblers are easily kited, (unless they have grenade launcher...)since they have a delay on their damage. What really bugs me is that a sentinel or two can cover the entire base with constant jamming, while not loosing any efficency. Especially on crossfire and arx novena it can be done without wasting more than a few seconds... oh wait! That's half of the maps, and on the other half it can still be done quite easily.
So while raiders and techs can easily counter an inf it'll demand that they are designated defenders of that area, while sentinels can passively hard counter an entire class, passively, without loosing anything they really want anyway (since the recharge pack is only wanted when you use the phase rifle, and I haven't seen a proficient sentinel use that as of yet).

Yeah I meant Drop Jammers, defensive Raiders are fortunately quite rare so far.

Well, well, well! Consider me wrong! It'd seem ZProtoss in Stack n Hack uses the phase rifle as sentinel.

It's very good if you can hit reliably with your first two shots, but after that your energy runs out.
That is why it's not seen so much in Pub play, the average SEN needs way more than two shots to kill someone, which makes the BXT1 the better choice.
Nova is also much better than the Falcon if your aim is perfect.

I love the nova! I just wish I got to play with it more, since the only time I get to use it is when there are 3+ infs on the enemy team. Then I can go sentinel, place a couple of drop jammers and three shot all infs that come around, and I can always flee behind claymores or drive them into one. Played a match earlier where 5 infs where on the enemy team, and just a few minutes later only one was still playing inf... I almost feel bad...
EDIT: Might get Nova for brute, but it feels a bit weird running around as a heavy brute with a small handgun that goes "Pew, pew, pew!".

I actually think it's way different from the SEN gun... I don't remember a PEW PEW sound when B-boy shot me in the back... it was more POW POW POW dead Adrius.

"Nova blaster" and "Nova Colt"... well... What'd'ya know? Too bad it's #3 on my unlock list, right after proximity grenades and LAR for soldier and pathfinder respectively.

Same Tribal manufacturer maybe... Nova series of weapons maybe... lack of naming imagination on Hirez maybe...
I saw a post on the forum that suggested giving the Brute a Gauss Rifle primary. A semi-auto, slow reloading weapon that deals heavy damage. No splash, just single projectile. Give it a medium-distance scope, and give the projectile a medium distance fall-off so that it can't replace the SEN's rifles. (That last bit is my own suggestion)
Would make the Brute more unique and more of a fighter in open field... he's described as a heavy soldier but he sure can't duel like one
You could have Brutes playing HoF and finishing off cappers with his Gauss Rifle, fill a role that the DMB can't fill with his slowish Chain Gun and Bolter.

You get 180 dmg per shot out of the Colt. It's pretty substantial for a 6-round weapon. Unfortunately I'm not sure how well it compliments the hvy spinfusor. Spinfusor works pretty fine in long or close range. I basically pull out the Colt on occasions where I hit someone to near-death and so I do a quick swap and spam some shots at their face. It better secures the kill than waiting on the clumsy reload time of the hvy spinfusor and risking them getting away. A hvy spinfusor on a guy with 200 life left is kind of redundant.
I like all 3 of the weapons the Brute has but I don't think their primary and secondary really go together. The Jug has his glowballs of death and then his own brand of spinfusor to serve as a standard weapon. The Brute just has two weapons that both serve a head-on purpose. Weak synergy.

Yeah the balance is ****ed up, but it's likely to be balanced out pretty soon so I wouldn't regret the investment yet.

Meh, whatever. This is going to be like when Goku trained on a high-gravity planet and then when he returned to Earth without the gravitational handicap he was incredibly badass.
edit: I never did end up unlocking the Sentinel like I said I would, but I don't think it's as terrible as it seems. According to Tribes wiki the Colt fires a little faster, and plus as a heavy you can afford to charge up and spam somebody to death. A light that plays with that level of aggression puts a lot more risk on themself since they rely on their ease of mobility to stay alive.

Inside? Yeah, that's a lot of risk.
Outside? I'd grab light armor over heavy any day. Mobility beats armor.
