True that. The greatest powers of the time were like two kids fighting to be on top of the class... or when the "classroom" is not enough, they wanted the "neighborhood" too.

I should be teaching history in primary school

You think that everything is OK. with war and expanding technology? Look at my country! No credit for all the things that we've done.
Have you heard about Tesla? He's responsible for these wonders of today. All the buildings wouldn't be possible without the computers and the computers wouldn't be possible if Tesla didn't discover how to use electric energy. Now we're fighting over oil, even though it's making our planet decay. If we treated our planet a bit better we could live without the fear of being boiled by the Sun's heat (Greenhouse effect). Instead we kill for money and false justice, thus creating more problems  and losing the race of survival.

Think about this. We could spread peace, discover the way to live longer, make seas even richer with life... But no! Someone thinks that all we need is power - the same power that has killed so much people. Think about that!

Speaking of Tesla, didn't he also fancy developing a weapon somewhat similar to Energy Shields?

You are right about the war thing. Mankind has been motivated to achieve great things because of war but surely it has almost outgrown its usefullness. Today there are more noble goals that can take us further towards perfection.

seriously, the solutions to most if not all problems were found long ago, and are quite simple.

Well unless you have top notch tech not a chance in hell you'll keep the mobs in-line, it's like giving infinite energy to a bunch of toddlers. Sooner or later they're going to realise that with those kinds of toys they don't need to be put in line by adults. I don't care for things that I can't see, but when it's shoving its ass in my face to the tune of jingle-bells, it's kind of annoying. (that's my analogy of conspiracies)

Humans are power-hungry, mostly. So this idea of everyone devoting the time and energy for things like improving our lives and such, is just a nice dream...

you can't change the world.

I doubt humans are mostly power hungry. but they seem mostly too lazy to improve the world. there are people who live in dumps, and instead of trying to improve their situation, they just get used to it
basically they are waiting for someone to come and tell them what to do. if they are lucky it is Mother Theresa, and in the worst case, it is Hitler.

From the story about Sun to the talk about wars... Our brain cells are running like crazy, but is it true that we use only 10% of our brain?

What is up with all this human-self-hating and disbelief in humanity nowadays? Sure, we humans are capable of great senseless evil but also of the opposite. Just like you guys I hear about atrocities all the time and think "What the **** is wrong with people?!" but c'mon... There is just as much goodness in us and we are not evil to the core. I KNOW you guys are not as negative towards humanity as you sound but I just wish I heard people speaking more often about the good stuff people do in the world everyday. It would be a really nice change if I could read about a person risking his/her life to save a complete stranger instead of brutal murder and rape.

MOD EDIT: I suggest you go and read the CoC about how you are supposed to censor certain four letter words here at HC.

Added: Sorry, I should have been more careful when censoring. Thanks for the warning and I will try to be more silver tounged in the future.

Agreed, the world seems depressing, violent and downright vile nowadays if you listen to the media. I would love to see some happy stories in the news without any of this gunk preceding and following it... but tragic events are what sells. so there's a better chance of there being a blue moon tonight than a really nice night of friendly, happy news...

Good and evil are a matter of perspective, you might see a nuke going off in the middle of a heavily populated town as 'evil', but I bet you a great deal that some good would come of that.

A perfect desciption of the first ever used atomic bomb(possibly ever used, not sure) but then it is a case of good and "greater" good. Killing a person to keep that person from killing someone else in the future is a minor case of greater good but maybe that future killer can be stopped in a better way? People need to be extra careful when faced with these greater good situations but not hesitate when necessary.
