Error loading up the game
I bought my best friend the retail version of Heroes 6 for Christmas. After hitting Play in the Ubisoft Launcher, he gets stuck at a black screen and the game hangs.
Any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it? Unfortunately, I do not know his OS but if I had to guess, I would say Windows 7 32/64 bit. I have a feeling the problem is the overall poor quality of the game and numerous bugs.

Is the game fully patched?
If not, there is an autopatcher in the directory under the name gu.exe. Try running that several times untill it says it is up to date.

It's sad reading over the forums looking for help on this bug, because the general consensus appears to be that Heroes 6 is a failure and could very well kill the franchise.

I am certain there are enough people round here who would agree with that. And those disgruntled people are very vocal indeed. There is a great 'how-dare-they-lay-a-finger-on-MY-game' anger directed at Ubisoft. One uncalled for, IMHO.
And there is no denying that Heroes 6 feels rushed and has many bugs to deal with. Yet even with all those bugs listed, some of which can be very annoying, for me it has never broken the game. It's very well playable and enjoyable.
Also if the autopatcher does not work, I have a few more tricks up my sleeve. Also check your friend is connected to the internet and his computer is not blocking the launcher connecting to it.

Already checked that. He is connected.
I stopped playing Heroes 6 a few months back. I beat the Necro campaign and got so fed up with not being able to continue with the Barbarian campaign, I stopped playing. When the game is fixed in (at this rate) 6 months or so, I will play it then.

There was something in ch about this, I think the thread is called unofficial black screen fix. I'm not positive about that, though.
EDIT: Found it, at Ubi, right here: Black Screen Fix
Check if that works.
