All heroes need to be available from the start for Multiplayer/Skirmish maps
With Elvin heading to the army (be safe dude) and unable to continue this fight that he strongly agreed needed to be changed, I just wanted to make mention of it once again so it isn't forgotten by the devs. With every patch that comes and this isn't changed, I will continue to make it known that we are unhappy with this feature and want it remedied.
For as long as I can remember in the franchise, we have always been able to choose from all the heroes (minus the special campaign ones) when starting a multiplayer/skirmish map. Now, for reasons unknown, UbiHole has decided that all these heroes are unimportant to the players and if we want to use a specific hero we either have to create them or unlock them through a campaign. I'm sorry, but that is unacceptable. What's the sense in having all these heroes in the game if you can't automatically choose them from the start? Nobody wants to use the same heroes every time they play a map. We want the choice of choosing from the vast list of heroes that are in the game, not ones that we have to create or unlock.
Please, reconsider this misguided decision and make it the way it's always been where we the players get to choose from the faction's list of all of the heroes when starting a game.

I completely agree that we should be able to select any of the pre-made heroes at start of any game (because only main hero can have tear/blood reputation).
There also needs to be main hand weapons available that are NOT dynasty weapons for those playing offline or don't need the cheesy extra bonus vs AI (no-one uses dynasty bonuses in MP do they?)...no weapon also skewers bias towards magic since most weapons would be more might oriented.
These two reasons are why I am not playing the game at the moment...(I play mainly offline single-player)...altho bugs & AI come pretty close too...
LOL looks like every new release of heroes will have some feature missing from previous installments that most players take for granted as necessary/great...
H5 first released without caravans (introduced in H4) and no hero paper-doll for artis (this didn't bother me but it bothered others) [not sure if H5 first came with map editor but map selection was not that great]...& I think MP didn't work
H6 first released without the normal hero choices & no main-hand non-dynasty weapons, can't even choose random faction for enemy computer player, really bad user interface (why not copy other heroes games?), no sim-turns (introduced in H5HoF but now recognised as required for non-hotseat MP), extremely small map selection...and probably crappy AI once again (haven't reached the stage of confronting the AI properly yet but they've run away so far when difficulty suggests they are stronger & I also read some ubi forum posts!) and tons of bugs
There may be a really good game in H6, but maybe they haven't invented the wheel in some places.

Where do I sign? I play offline only and I haven't played one single custom map yet, because I can only get those Demo heroes, that I'm already sick of. So much for replayability. And don't get me started on offline duels ...

Hmm i dont see why everyone has such a huge problem with this.
You can always create your own hero. and the unlocking part makes sence in a way. As reward for completing the campaign or unlocking slots and other things by playing the game in general.

The problem is you would have to create every hero with every different specialty just so you could use them. That is completely backwards and a waste of time considering the way the series has always been in the past.
I will concede that this method is okay for unlocking the special campaign heroes, but for the regular ones there should be absolutely no reason that we should have to create them all just to use them in a multiplayer map.

In fact, what's stupid is that you have to create a hero just for playing a map when all you need is an interface as in the previous HoMM where you could pick a portrait.
They could make it this way :
1. Enter a custom name
2. Choose a faction or random
3. Choose a gender
4. Choose a custom portrait (among all the portraits unlocked)
5. Choose an orientation (might/magic/random)
6. Choose a spec or random
7. If Dynasty options are activated : Choose Dynasty Traits
8. If Dynasty options are activated : Choose Dynasty Weapon

should be a combination of the 2 methods.. should be able to choose hero from default list or create your own. Also iirc there is a 10 hero limit to the # of heroes you can have in your dynasty window? maybe i'm senile and thinking of a diff game, but if so that is dumb.

I totally agree. I don't even bother that stupid creation dynasty thingy when playing MP. All I want is choose the hero in instant and play the game in instant. Somebody should make a mod for unlocking these all heroes till Ubi realize the mistake.

I think you can choose wich ones you want to display in the Dynasty window.
But i must still say i really like the iron - platinum thing with ranks and points to unlock features, avatars and other things as you get higher in rank.

I think it is really nescesary for this feature to be accesable. A random Hero at the start of the map and a random faction. Especialy when you play Hotseat or just for fun whit freinds you do not want to play as you "Überhero" level 30 you got in your campaigne. There are these tavern heroes so how hard could this simple feture of giving a random one at the beginning of the map be.
I Understand and Like there Online conflux idea and the bonuses it provides, but also it should not be on the cost of simple but effective game experience.

While the Dynasty feature is good in theory, the part I bolded is just that, an avatar. Now, if those pictures unlocked the actual hero and made them automatically available for play, then it might be worth something.
Until that happens, you still would have to create over 50 heroes (if the game even allows that many) for you to have the choice of who you want to start as.
Let me also add this is the company that by their own words said they wanted to streamline the series and make it faster. Anyone else see the irony in that? Exactly how is forcing us to create that many heroes streamlined and faster than just having it automatically available like say, oh I don't know, Heroes 3, 4, & 5?

The hero i created and use every match somehow always starts out at level 1 tho.

This i agree to
Eventho the last thing i hope to see is a mod or something that will unlock all the unlockables. people who spent time to get to platinum and unlock everything shoudn't have done so in vain.
and adding a biography should be added as step 2.
i might even disagree with option 7 and 8. as selecting a weapon can be done ingame and i feel that Dynasty traits should be reserved for Permanently created Heroes.

Sorry for necro-posting, but I want to say I agree.
I only played the demo a bit, I thought it was a restriction of the demo. If this is a feature of the regular game... that's baffling. Same hero all the time? Not good, simply not good. I don't understand that design choice.
No need for every hero being available from the start, that's not the way it always was. I own Heroes II & III: random hero at start + 2 more random ones available in tavern.
I want some more openness at the very least. That would increase the chance of me purchasing this game at some point. I'll keep following the developments...

not the case, you can create asmany heroes as you like all with different names and write your own background, the ownly limit is your own creativity ^^,

You're speaking about map creation now, aren't you?
I'm in the assumption this thread is about being restricted to the same two heroes per faction every time at game setup.
'Broken Alliance' is the only map in the demo. Pick, for example, Haven, and I'm restricted to picking either Eileen or Karloff as my main hero. Others I only have a chance of getting when I build a Hall of Heroes.
If there's this type of restriction with every regular map that comes with the game, then I'm disappointed in that.
I'm not misunderstanding things here, am I?

Aside unlocked legacy heroes, and custom ones you build, you ARE limited to 2 per faction for offline gaming and grand total of 0 (zero) for online play.
So yes, unless you build your own custom hero your options for starting one are limited to say the least.

Is there any way to unlock those campaign heroes without playing through the campaign? I mean like a trainer/cheat or something.
