Poll Question: W(h)erewolves...
Come on, lets settle this dsiscussion from dungeon to the broader scale it has allready reached and we see which wins...
Where to put (permanent!) Werewolves in HoMM (Or MM:H^^)?
Note: I put as many factions in as possible, even those which I found illogical. Just Haven is a 10000% no-go...

I vote neutral creatures. They have a big place in european mythology, so why not? However, they shouldn't go in a faction imo. The two most frequent proposals - Sylvan and Necropolis - are both no-go for me. Wherewolves are not undead, and they deffinitely don't fit in a faction that's all about harmony and nature-loving.

I myself would, in Ashan, and with classical factions, put them in stronghold mostly.

For me it was between sylvan, stronghold, or neutral, but I finally decided to put them in stronghold.

I could see them in H3 fortress. there are already gnolls, so why not werewolves?

whenever I included werewolves/ lycanthropes in general, I always put them in the nature/elven/hippy faction, but on the other hand, most of my versions of those factions have followed the "Wild hunt" archetype of them. I can see where they would fit in with the undead style factions and as neutral creatures, but to me, the uncontrollable nature of them, coupled with the idea of them mainly living in dark woods, puts them in the nature faction for me, personally.

I voted for new faction.
I think they can do quiet well in an Asylum faction, a faction full of outlaws, such as bandits and thugs, and dark monsters of the wild.
In Ashan it might be a faction of outlaws from all different factions who joined together and worship Malassa, the goddess of darkness, but unlike dungeon not considered her main worshipers.
(Come to think about it, maybe I will develop the idea and make it a whole faction)

It was a toss-up 'tween Stronghold and Necropolis. Since I agree with Xerox that Werewolves could fit well into a cliché horror Necropolis. However I ended voting Stronghold, because Stronghold wouldn't need an overhaul to have it fit, whereas Necropolis would.

Neutral, since right now I can't see them fitting in with the "Good" Sylvan, underground Dungeon or the very dead Undead factions. Disciples was really the only series where that last one worked, and most factions are well-defined anyway.

Well I am undecided,on the one hand they would fit into the dungeon with the whole darkness theme,on the other hand they would fit really well into an outlaw-faction.
regarding the Ashan world I think that the next new faction would be one who worships Ylath the air dragon,which would be the free cities,however I think the term "free" could be taken a step further to make the free cities an outlaw faction(otherwise I don't see any big point in another human faction),so maybe they could be part of the free cities,which would also match with the whole griffin vs wolf-theme we've got in HVI

Not in the game - would be such a waste not to include them and get a "New Tormentor" instead
Neutral creature - 100% match.. BUT would be a pity not to be able to play with Werewolf in line up! so i wouldnt like them neutral
Inferno/Demons - i personally cant see how they will fit to demon faction with succubs and devils
Academy/Wizards - in Ashan Academy is a "good-oriented" faction, but Werewolves do not look like a puppy, do they?
Dungeon/Warlocks - i still like the idea for Werewolves to be here! inspite of dungeon being an underground faction. the fact that Werewolves are associated with darkness/moon/curse makes me want them in here!!! add ability of resistance to weapon attacks, and would be an amazing dungeon creature! add background story of some ancient (or recent) curse, and they can go to underground fighting alongside with faceless and dark elves.. p.s. werewolf also can be a sort of cursed dark elf for example!
Stronghold/Orcs/Barbarian - even though i would hate this idea of werewolves in "orc faction", i must admit that they could fit into stronghold
Necromancers - Necropolis in Ashan is just too undead for werewolves.. no i dont think they fit.. also necro units are usually very slow, which shouldnt be the case for werewolves
Sanctuary/Nagas - That would be a JOKE! yeah right, add him a fish tale as well!!
H5 Fortress/Dwarves - wont fit here at all ! Dwarfs are just too "good" for "bad" werewolf
Different/New Faction - Yes! why not! i wouldnt even mind putting them into swamp-related faction, like FortressH3
p.s. no option for Sylvan/Rampart.. well.. thats fine with me

Thinking way back to the days of Might & Magic 6, I'd either keep them neutral or throw them in with the Necropolis. However, if you start lumping them in with the undead, the Necropolis will start to resemble the Undead Hordes of the Disciples series... which actually wouldn't be a bad thing since the Undead Hordes blow away the Necropolis in terms of units.
