I use wikipedia in English. Yesterday I checked list of friends episodes, sims games, pacman level names and list of the simpsons episodes among others.

Never mind, Wiki claims great success in any case.
What might be interesting to discuss are events like the United Kingdom extraditing Richard O’Dwyer to the United States and similar puppet state behaviour by more and more European nations, effectively putting the interest of American industry lobbies over their own national integrity. Leaving the impression that, pretty much like Zeno said, if you've got enough funds and means to lobby your legislation through to America, all the countries in the American satellite world will enforce it, whether they enact those laws in their own countries or not. And considering that most of the consumer world is under the American sphere of influence, it pays off very well to invest in the US legislation market.

How very nice of some sites to be completely blocked for Non-US citizens all because of a bill that doesn't even affect us.
Good lord, when it comes to empathizing with foreigners Americans *are* the worst students in the class, no doubt.

Eeep wrong, because of how vague the bill is, it would allow the american goverment to take down sites in the US at whim.

As well as sites not based in the US, but in countries who have no means or will to pursue a battle on those grounds (which is pretty much any country except China, Russia or North Korea, and I don't think we're visiting their sites too often).

If I am not wrong, 99% of online credit agencies has some fot inside USA.
SOPA allows you to send a letter to all of them, stating something, and they have to block whoever you complain about. Effectivially killing all finance towards some site.
If you figure out what bank the person is using, you might also send a letter to that bank if it has some branch inside USA, so that all transfers inn and out of that account gets blocked.
And remember, court cases and damage control can only happen if you manage to survive a court case for half a year towards 2 years without any financial support via normal rules.
Such a thing would even harm most of the larger corporations, like Facebook or Intel via freeze all founds.

Tourists gets driving tickets and leaves the country. Often there is no follow up. Unless a country has similar rules to SOPA, outside country servers are not in danger.
It hardly matters what United States does within its own borders because the internet is flexible. There are demand and supply. Remove the supply and other suppliers step in. In conclusion the States weaken their competition strength.

Technically that's perfectly possible. Implementing it would be a pain. I wouldn't worry too much though, such a bill will create a mess of epic proportions if it ever evolves into a functional law and maintaining its effectiveness will likely cost much more than it will supposedly save to the oh so poor copyright holders. The Internetz on the other hand is too decentralized - technically, organizationally and institutionally - so any epidemic scenarios are highly unlikely. The only thing to fear is smart guys like the authors of these bills crossing the Atlantic.

Certainly. But, risking my lack of any actual knowledge on the subject to ooze through my lameass cardboard Guy Fawkes mask, I've always assumed that the enforcement of an enacted law is sponsored by tax money, not just by whoever lobbied for the law to pass.
It wouldn't be the first legislation that results in the country losing more money than whoever put it through is saving (and whoever helped put it through has gained).
I mean, that's not even a conspiracy theory anymore.

Why of course, but in this case the taxpayers are far more likely to start asking what their money are being spent for and why. And I'm not talking about the "blackout" campaign and the recent outcry in general but about the reaction of the parties which will be affected by the eventual law and which will start their own "noise" campaigns as well. Among other things, the ISPs are not really fond of filtering public traffic without very serious reasons because the end users have the habit to make their lives hell and search for alternative means to access the restricted information. And in the end, I doubt that even the Americans are so sheepish to allow such a bill to pass, it's not like it won't affect them the most.
