Running ubuntu 16.04. Installed HD and Era2 on gog version. Runs through wine 2.0 rc2-staging. Getting an error in game "Cannot create random_map.h3m in data directory". I can play already existing scenarios&campaigns with no issues.
I have set the permissions to potentially write stuff, but it has no effect. Anybody else running H3 on a linux through wine? [Yes, I know there is VCMI]
I don't have windows so I can't say whether this problem is linux-specific.

I run Era 2 without any issues under Debian Jessie with wine. Why do you use a "rc2-staging" version btw? Get a normal version maybe?
Not sure if wine is related to your issue with random maps though, just tried to create a random map and success.

1. Result is invariant with respect to the version. Happened to be testing stuff. [RC2 yields better results for some of my games, though]
2. Aye, it's got to be some kind of write-protection, but I have already set the permissions to allow writing. Maybe I did it incorrectly :s

Yes depending on which games you need different wine versions, can't use the same for all games. Try a reinstall with a standard wine version maybe. I don't recall doing anything with permissions but it was long ago when I set it up so my memory might be a bit fuzzy.
Edit: I assume, you did a 32 bits install yes?

Ah, you need to do 32 bits install. Only libraries to add are gdiplus and directplay IIRC.

Still getting "Cannot create random_map.h3m in data directory". 32/64bit install seems to make no difference :/

There new tool for ERA had been released, called Typhon: http://forum.df2.ru/index.php?showtopic=36759
Allows you to easily edit old monsters, add new creatures, add alternatives for towns and edit trees of buildings.

Yay nice !!!
does it work properly with crexpbon.txt and crexpmod.txt ? (Stack Experience system from WoG)
I am currently fixing some things in Amethyst (but Real Life makes it longer). One of them were Stack Experience limited to creatures below 256.
Can I incorporate part of your code into Amethyst? (Feanor alllowed me to maintain Amethyst and I already Incorporated some Changes) ... If you wish we may exchange some code

Yes, correctly.

I did it too.

What for? This is a very strange desire because new tool is wider and more convenient.

but can I?
I have a bit of functionalities not added to your tool, but added to amethyst.
I mostly worked around the problem with 256 thing (i replaced the 8bit field for creature number with 10-bit reserved one) but I need to finish.
please allow me to join the codes. I won't oppose if new codes (since Amethyst 1.0) were incorporated into your tool. I even may help you with incorporating them into your tool.
I don't want to break your copyright, and I don't want to invent wheel again. My purporse was to add as much as possible new properties to creatures where it makes sense. I would be still maintaining Amethyst, and my biggest mod uses it, so please help me... I won't be a burden, I can read code.
I have a wish and say gently "pleaaase", is it enough to reuse (part of) code of open source program you have written? I asked gently. I stated I wish to help you too. However strange it sounds, help me so I may help you - allowing to reuse code is one of the best help to me :|

can I assume I may use source of it as since it is an OSS project?
how to migrate creatures from amethyst to typhon.
I'd like to help you with typhon and crexpo limit, but I prefer to add it myself in amethyst then just allow you to copy the fix into Typhon.
I can use assembler but my knowledge is limited. The fun thing with amethyst for me is that I can freely modify it, since feanor left it to me.
I don't want to be rude, and hope I wasn't.

And creatures limit increased to 320? Not suitable for Typhon where 1000 creatures.
