well, i finally fixed my problem. i've got everything i had, and everything runs smoothly.
but i have a new problem: my old maps no longer work. they were made from original heroes 3, some of them were updated by wog, and ran under era 1.8. is there any fix for this? i remember someone else bringing this up, probably in this thread. don't remember seeing an answer tho.
p.s. salamandre, don't you go giving out my stuff until i put out another mod, ok?
EDIT 2: i had to remove the yona, secondary skills, and fast battle animation to get my map editor to stop crashing when i exited, as well as having the ability to see "advanced objects properties" spontaneously removing and then spontaneously adding itself back to the editor.

Without knowing what's really going on, it looks like a messed install, probably moved data around, grayface patch over era, pieces of chunk from 3.58, something like that. Of course maps made with wog 3.58 and modified H3sprite.lod will not be read, how could.

All I know is:
Install Heroes complete or SoD
Install Era 2.4 over it
Done.
Any further manipulations, changes in H3sprite lod, grayface patch, moving files around will screw the thing. Every change should be done in mods folder.

well, here's another problem i'm running into- i just tried to make a visual change(drag + drop) to an object in both the h3sprite, and then the mod sprite file. neither change showed up in the map editor. any reason why? i figured an upgrade wouldn't detract from the previous possibilities(this worked FINE on era version 1.8). hopefully i'm wrong?

How to build a graphic mod under Era:
My mod name
Data
/pac (this is like H3sprite.lod, drag inside all defs you work on)
/Objects/myobjects.txt (put here only codes for new objects you make)
My game/Data/H3sprite.lod: don't touch, this will ensure you don't need 1 million backups later. Grayface patch: it is already included in era, don't change anything.

you're not getting it, man. as someone who constantly is changing his own h3sprite, i need drag + drop capability, so that i can alter my h3sprite at will. i don't need protection for my mistakes, that's what helps me to learn.
either way, i re-installed era 1.8. all problems fixed. now i can run things how i want, not how someone else thinks they should run for me.
thanks anyway for your help.

Why would you need to drag and drop things in H3sprite.lod, mods folder DOES NOT read from it, and no one uses era 1.8 or whatever you think it allows strange actions. Ok, go ahead.

Fred, you are the one who asks for help, why go grumpy when people show you the proper way. What's the big difference between drag drop and simply enabling/disabling mods and what's the point when mods overwrite it anyway.

ok, i had a long and drawn-out explanation, in which i was very upset. i will summarize.
1. my way WORKS for me.
2. it is not ANYONE ELSE'S BUSINESS what goes on between me and another member. keep your noses out of it. if someone thought i was out of line, i would see something by an admin, which i'm not, because i am merely stating my opinion. stop swinging off of other people's ****'* like you were their nutsack.
3. my way WORKS for me. if era 2.4 worked for me, i wouldn't have gone back to an older version. and i could give a **** less what everyone else is doing. if it doesn't work with my methods of doing things, then why in the **** would i possibly want to use it? i don't play and mod this game to fit in, i play and mod it for my own amusement, because i have loved "heroes" ever since i played the first one.
4. go ahead and get angry at me for doing things my way. i don't give a rat's ***. i asked for help, and nothing you said helped me, because:
A. era 2.4 doesn't allow me to change defs permanently, ONE at a time.
B. you kept telling me things i already knew.
i think that covers my response.

1- Your way didn't work for you. That's why you looked for help in the first place. And when you got it, you acted like a jerk.
2- If you want privacy use private messages. Threads are for all members to comment on. It's interesting to see how when someone agrees with you it becomes their business yet when disagrees suddenly it's swinging off of nutsacks.
3- Nobody's forcing you to use 2.4. If you ask about errors while using 2.4 you will get answers involving the way it is done in 2.4. What did you expect, to be told to go back to 1.8? You act like a spoiled teenage girl when things don't go exactly the way you want and personally this is the last time I converse with this kind of immaturity.

artu, while I agree with you about fred79's overreaction,I think that fred79 may be just tired or angry for some tiny mistakes, which unfortunately make the files not working.
My respect for his work to give back to community something new!
I guess this is a great moment, where Bersy may step in the discussion and persuade fred79.

yeah, i kinda did overreact. i apologize. it IS frustrating, having to buy a new computer because your old one crapped out, finding out that windows 8 is even more unnecessarily complicated than previous versions, and that you can't install older versions without buying a $100 dollar upgrade for the problem microsoft created. then finding out that you can't partition your hard drive and add windows xp to it(that lying sack of **** at the store had told me i could, when asked, but windows 8 apparently runs off of a different platform).
then there's trying era 2.4, finding that IT doesn't do what you want, trying all kinds of stuff until i have to eventually ask for help on here, having to go back to era 1.8 even after somebody tried to help me, then having somebody from left field say things that made me even angrier.
since that kind of thing happened before, i felt compelled to try and stop it. artu, i don't care if you never talk to me again. that's your prerogative. at least i will have one less person saying something that DOESN'T help me, when i'm backed into a corner with everything i'm trying to do. yes, i was frustrated. i wanted to bang my head against the wall just as much as i'll bet salamandre did. comments like artu's didn't help. that's why i jumped your ****.
i try to do my best. i do everything i can before i ask for help. if i need help, then i'm certainly not in the mood for stupid comments.

Usually downloaded files are not placed in Heroes folder. But yes, I mean selecting Heroes 3 root folder.

There is an update in the first post to version 2.43. Try it first. Secondly, it's preferable to keep h3 folder not in program files but in d:\wog or smth like that to ensure that game has necessary rights for files. And the last thing to mention is check that h3era.exe has no compatibility settings in file properties.
