Quote: I'd rather encourage people to create their own game rather than building on top of mine. Much easier.
Perhaps a story in the same world at the same time, but with different characters and in a different location? Could weave it into my story without having to deal with my scripts.
Hm... then how about everybody interested makes a game in their 30 day trial period? =)
Make it a contest, for bragging rights. Adrius already had top rights for creating the HC Game genre itself.

I wanted to continue the previous post of mine, commenting everything in the game, but I have to go to bed soon, so I won't go into as much detail as I'd like to.
I have played the game on and off now since installing and have "completed" with all 3 classes.
**Warning might contain spoilers**
The graphics, i.e. the area choosen and the corresponding enemies together with the music throughout the game was very well done! The dialogue is also really good most of the time! ... So you think Meroe is a witch of the dark arts eh? I guess you secretly stalked her in DDO or something!
I like the difficulty curve of the game. It's a great idea that it's possible to fail at most stages and you do need to think (or be rather lucky, if you don't think) to beat many parts of the game. Though I must admit I disliked that death was similar to in morrowind where you'd to continue from a save. Likewise I disliked you were pretty locked in the gameplay. A few things you could skip, but my critique is more that you don't get different gameplay by doing different stuff and choosing a different dialogue. As well as you don't get to choose your skills and there's really no "real" alternatives for the equipment you get. I do however understand that it might not have been possible to have any better alternatives and it's really really well made as it is.
Regarding balancing, I think the osm player is a bit overpowered. I didn't do the acu quest with this guy to get his über item, yet I were never in much danger. His decoy is awesome and is probably the most unique skill (for the alternative classes) in the game (though I really like Chain Lightning for its graphical BOOM DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE thingy as well). Despite decoy failing repeatedly against Azadrius, there wasn't any real danger. I didn't even need to drink the mana, as long as I didn't apply Meroe's attacks and only let her heal in stead. It was really awesome that Adrius had this fear of Azagal backstabbing him and then it ended up with Azagal taking down Adrius due to decoy's confusion effect. That was hilarious!
I like that the altarist is made for super damage and low defense, but I think he's maybe a bit too similar to the wastelander. Though I like the graphics of the alterist a lot more. As such, the wastelander doesn't really seem that unique as a class. I understand it was probably not possible to make them more diverse without screwing the balance. After all, maybe the most important role, being the healer, is a class you're forced to have on your team.
About the glade realm. I think it was a very well chosen realm, because rats, bats, fire monsters, demons, bandits, guardians, etc. fits very well in with the glade where you can meet any kind of monster. Maybe except for the troll and the robots haha. I don't know if this was on purpose though? Btw. I think it was good that one could buy those potions (I'm pretty sure you could, never did, they were waay to expensive).
I found the first quest pretty nice. Gnomes' dialogue is really good, but his armageddon punch was maybe a bit cheap. I think when you get the orb of levitate, it'd be a good idea not to have Joonas telling you to look for clues in the tower, but that's a minor thing really.
Meroe - Joonas conversation is pretty hilarious!
During the second part, Adrius seemed like a really scary mofo, able to crush a bridge and looked pretty epic. I wish I could say the same about Azagal, but he just didn't seem as sneaky as I'd hoped he would. I liked Acu's notes, they were a rather.. strange.. experience to read. Anyway, this part was probably the most bland part the game, I imagine it was a lot of filler, but it was nice filler!
Kiphasz could probably have had a bit better lines, but then again, I hardly know.
During the last stages. Acu's physical resistance and magical weakness was a nice twist! He maybe had a bit much hit points, but it was a really nice battle with the altarist.
The guardians was a bit of a pain, if I went back and healed they were easy, but it was a bit long way back. If I didn't, I risked getting beaten due to the a bit irritating hit/miss stuff. I think it's better if you ever hardly miss your opponent, while you have possibilities to be hard to hit and not the alternative. In one fight against the bandits, I needed to hit the bandit one time more to win. I had Joonas left and he used his FLURRY (is that some kind of flower?) attack. I missed 6 attacks in a row and since I were too cheap to use a healing pot, I had to restart since I stupidly hadn't saved.
Anyway, against the final part.. Xerox is awesomely made! Azagal was a real challenge, with his confusion hitting Meroe, which was challenging. Adrius however, was a bit dissapointing. He seemed to be all about damage and well, even with his insane stat boost, he didn't pose too much risk. Also I find it funny that Adrius complained about Xerox not targeting the healer (which he totally did), just to ignore the healer himself afterwards!
Anyway, with the wastelander, I had used the mana pot (and two healing pots too I think, since I didn't know what to expect, I'd get full health/mana before venturing forward just to find a shrine to heal me) before the final battle. Which did make the battle pretty difficult. Especially because Meroe got targeted both by Azagal and Azadrius when they went into their insane attacking. Against Azagal, she did survive due healing herself, but Azadrius dealt 900 damage!! I won after some retries, but I had to use Meroe mostly defensively to do so, to avoid running out of mana.
All in all. I think the game was really well made! You spend 20 days on something that's much better and more complete than what I think certain full product, taking years to develop, have accomplished. Sure it could be better, but anything could. I'm really glad you decided to share this with us and hope you'll have fun making more!
Thank you.

**spoilers below**
Quote: Acu's physical resistance and magical weakness was a nice twist!
Wat? Uh yeah... that was... totally intended...
Wow Forf, thanks for the feedback. I think you know more about my game than I do hahah.
Yeah the dialogues don't really lead to different paths or stuff... didn't want to delve too deep. I'm all for choices and stuff but it's a fricking nightmare to balance the game when you don't know what the player will do.
The Other Sider is overpowered yes, and he was even worse before haha.
The Other Sider has a harder time early on than the others though, and the game is so short that I'm happy with the balancing as long as people can play through it without it becoming annoying.
The Altarist and Wastelander is similar because they're both damage dealers and the tools don't really give that many different status effects to play with. I could've made the Altarist more of a defensive caster perhaps but... blowing stuff up is funnier. And yeah, like you said I already had a healer.
I had given Adrius a status inflicting attack earlier but that combined with Azzie's smokebomb could make the player's team completely useless. I still get kinda scared when he uses Whirlwind Slash though, that one's pretty potent.
EDIT:
Quote: As well as you don't get to choose your skills and there's really no "real" alternatives for the equipment you get.
I think I know how to script options for the player in skills, that's a nice idea.
It's all about the game being short though, I can include all these options for the player to plan their gameplay but if you're just gonna play for 40 minutes it feels like overdoing things.

I can see the Berserk influence in it. Mods running around like the Godhand, granting extraordinary power to lowly mortals.
I missed the part where you kill Acu so I ran through it a 2nd time. When I first got to the part where you had to put numbers in I tried 1337 and 6969, then I gave up and moved on, and ended up completely forgetting about it. That's more of a side quest to get the Imbalanced Grimoire anyway.
Anyway, you will now cease all other activities in your life, except for sleeping and a grace period of 45 minutes per day, during which you can consume sustenance, and devote your time to making a full-sized game.

Took me about an hour. I liked it a lot, but Adrius and Azagal got themselves killed, because Azagal basically has no idea what he's doing and just efs around.
I didn't even know aculias was a sidequest.
Also, I didn't get itemisation very well. And some skills become bloody useless, like reckless swing and flurry (even throwing star had higher dps, which I found odd). You just do bear claw and fus ro dah with wastelander and joonas all the time at the end.
Joonas is well characterised. Wouldn't know so much about meroe. All in all, I really liked this.
Also, who the hell is Spectre?

Well the blonde part was certainly wrong. Literally, not figuratively, speaking of course. (She has dark hair). Though I found a lot of her dialogue spot on. It really oased of Meroeness. Also giving the character Ignite was very Meroeish, with her rage and all. The healing+witch went well with her being a religious cultist. Her mana cost was very high, which in some obvious sense make very good sense as well.
So yeah, it fitted nicely!

LOL!!! I shall return to this thread in due time but for now here is the hcm I sent you. No reason to keep it secret.
Dear Adrius,
I love you. I will have to come up with a way to make it up to you. This hillarious and wonderful game is amazing! Had me smiling from start to finish!! Damn that was buckets of fun! Absolutely wonderful!! Haaha you had me laughing so much at myself xD! Haahahaha well captured!
I love you.
Sincerey
The other half of Azadrius
PS: As marvellous and ingenius your game is, it has one fatal flaw. As you are without a doubt aware, Azadrius is an entity that can not be defeated. Not even by a group of the manliest of men the nord to has to offer while accompanied by a deviously sexy redhead and a champion of the forum. I however understand that our defeat was but a temporary setback!
PPS: lol you really had me laughing from start to finish! LOL That piano xD. Xerox almost made me wet myself LOL. Ohh and all the wonderfull Azagal lines ^^ hahahaha. Exceptionally well done!!
