Also even if you already have Fallout this might be a good opportunity to get a version that has been tailored to work perfectly on newer systems.
EDIT:
Reading through the manual while the game is downloading right now and ****... this is how a goddamn manual should be. Fricking lore and ****, not just some hotkeys and an advertisement for another game... this is awesome.

Good call. Own the game already but you're right - nice to have one reworked for modern OS. Thx for the heads up, Ad.

I think you just have to add it to your collection... I got a "thank you for your purchase!" note right after adding it so...
I read that it may have some minor issues on Windows 7, will check when I install it tomorrow.
Now I need to get some sleep.

Game works perfectly for me 
It's not exactly making me drool in excitement but it's a nice, atmospheric RPG nonetheless.

Honestly I find the game unimpressive so far.
Combat is dreadfully slow and unexciting.
There are very few NPCs that are interesting to talk to.
The iconic Fallout humour eludes me.
I guess I just don't have that nostalgia to help me cope with the flaws.

We're talking about a 15 year old game, the flaw tolerance was much higher back in the day so what you see now had probably gone unnoticed then (I know I didn't find any major issues). And it is by all means an iconic RPG which is worth playing even by today's standards (hell, mechanics-wise it's better than 80% of the new stuff and its atmosphere is nigh unmatched no matter the painfully obsolete graphics). However, if you don't like turn-based tactical combat (which is MUCH more than meets the eye, even though an experienced player can roll through even the most powerful enemies with ease), better don't bother.

Dude we're on a HoMM fansite.
I like turn-based tactical combat.
So far the tactics mostly involve firing off a shot and then use the remaining action points to flee backwards a bit, and then repeat the process until everything is dead.

I guess you are yet to discover aimed shots then. The different types of weapons can make the combat very different, the game can be replayed several times only to try and master each speciality.
