Yeah, the 990FX UD5 seems like a much more logical choice if you can get it for the same price.
If you're going to overclock, you're going to need to cool the VRM with a fan though. I'm not sure if that would be required for the asus.
But then again, that has better power phasing so it allows for a higher powerdraw if cooling is handled properly.
Oh and asus bios is way more user(newb) friendly.

Yeah the BIOS looks sweet for the ASUS.. that actually matters quite a bit for me, as a less hardcore OCer.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the VRM is located around the CPU slot correct? Do you mean mounting an extra fan to blow onto that area?

Yes, it's underneath the heatsink between the cpu socket and the rear panel. You mount a small fan to blow air through the heatsink or directly down on the heatsink to cool it down.
The voltage regulator module is what all of the power to the cpu passes through so needless to say with the already power hungry FX series overclocked, that's quite a lot
Some CPU coolers already do this as a side-effect of their airflow but not all.

Hmm okay, I could probably do that with some Macgyvering... leaning towards the ASUS still though. Dat BIOS and ****, me likes... plus that stuff you mentioned about good cooling.
Looking at graphics cards atm, Gigabyte's R9 270x looks neat. Same price as Sapphire's and MSI's versions but I get to put that insane working space within the Phantom to good use.
29 cm of cooling lol.

270X is a money issue, depending what kind of offers you get, 280, 280X, 285 might be better or worse choices.
If you want to stick with AMD that is.

Yeah will watch out for offers
EDIT:
Found demo versions of higher VRAM cards for the same price.
ASUS Radeon R9 270X 4GB GDDR5
also a
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming 4GB
2 GB more vram... 70 more mhz clockspeed on both... Should be a no-brainer right? I get the same guarantee despite it being a demo version, apparently just mislabeled box or something lol.
I'm thinking of me modding Beth games with these ****ing insane texture mods... 2 GB extra will likely come in handy.

You will propably not have enough processing power to use the extra ram in new games though. It's cool to have it but if you can't fill it without a huge lag what's it worth?

No.
I'm just saying it won't be usefull in games with very high grafical effects because the processing speed will be used for other things than loading textures into ram. Meaning you won't be able to fill the ram with high precision textures or high resolution anti-aliasing.
For older games you can spam in all the HD texture mods and AA you can find though.
Of course four is always better than two.

Oh, the one big advantage it currently has is that AMD mantle doesn't is bottlenecked under 3 GB RAM. So unless they fix that, it's an advantage. Very rarely usefull one though.

Looking at other peoples' PC builds I realize that my PSU is installed upside down.
Only took me a few years to figure that out.
I kinda thought having the fan upwards made sense. Haha.

Well, it's not necessarily upside down. If you had it installed that way it would just work as one extra exhaust. Though that only serves to snow up the airflow because the hot air goes to the top.

Got my new case today!
My CPU temps dropped over 10C at full load, lol. You could say it was worth the upg. They now hover at 45-46C at full load.
A very nice case in general. A couple complaints, one too little space behind the motherboard tray, it's enough, but just barely. Two, the top and front panels of the case are plastic, not steel like the rest.
That's about it really, solid build quality, nice customisation options, space for more than enough fans and LOTS of space in general.
I can recommend.

Dat CPU cooler.
Oh you have a fan on the back of the motherboard? That's neat.
Nice cablemanagement in that case... like the hole on the left inbetween the mobo and PSU, the Phantom lacks one of those.
Having spare space feels so good

The phanteks cooler is literally the size of my head
It's the little things that allow me to run that high overclock. The small fan on the VRM next to the cpu - you can just barely see it in the picture - and the one on the backside of the mobo to cool the socket.
I really would have liked another small slot to route cables directly under the front panel connections. They're too messy for my tastes now.

I think this is a pretty neat idea... headphone holder on side of case. Kinda wanna make a case mod like this. The one in the pic looks kinda weak though.
Guess I could recruit lil' bro to make one for me... he knows his **** when it comes to metalwork.
