Is submission preferable?

to painful resistance?

For example, imagine you were a mouse, inside one of them special maze-like cages, the ones with cheese on the end. You're fully aware of what's happening, regardless you're hungry. What do you do? And why do you do it?

You are completely free to act as you will, the only restrctions are the cage, and the fact that you're confined to a mouse's body. Since it's the Tavern I do ask for honesty and abit of fore-thought before you post.

Look at Syria. Pretty sure you have your answer right there.
I think it's largely a matter of ideals. Change doesn't come from submission.

I'm not looking for a lecture, an answer will do.

The submission one is a rhetorical question, don't even think about going for that . In retrospect so is the mouse analogy, but it's far easier material to think with.

I'm at an impasse, and no amount of contribution from HC or other 3rd party individual will influence my decision, I thought it interesting to inflict this 'moral dilemma' upon the community, so I'm not looking for an answer per-se, I want you to participate, and lend me a piece of that marvelous thing that you call a brain.

I didn't know you were at a decision. You were just asking a general question. My intentions is not to make you do something but just to answer the question.

Well depends on the situation. If nothing happens to me, any of my friends or family, than I probably would submit. But if, you know, it's one of those torture scenes when you're giving out top secret info that will get all your friends killed... I don't know. Let's hope I'm never in that situation.

A mouse has limited facilities, and is driven by baser instincts.  Hunger for one.  While humans would seek to not go hungry, and might follow the maze to the end for that purpose..they would also seek means of escape.  Yes, a mouse might try to escape, but we are talking limited intelligence and options vs larger intelligence with more options (especially those that require thumbs).

So it is not a matter of 'submit' or not.  It is a matter of 'submit totally' vs 'submit on the short term while seeking avenues of escape'.

It is a question of resistance or death, not much of an option. Now if we were tested by saw's traps..

Lemmy can answer that better than me:

Motörhead - FIGHT

I direct your attention to the refrain and especially the last 3 words of the song.

Even confined to a mouses body (ie no thumbs) we have spacial and cognitive abilities a mouse does not.  Now if you say THOSE are limited, then we would BE mice..and we can not answer as we do not know how mice think.

Actually what I am trying to do is answer your question.  Some people just do not have what it takes to surrender.  To just give up, and only worry about the cheese at the end of the maze.  So I will break it down for you, because I know I ramble a lot (even I can't understand myself sometimes)

While it is perfectly acceptable to surrender, in order to make things easier then oneself, some just can not do so.  They will find any way they can to keep fighting, regardless of the odds.  So to answer your question..yes it is acceptable to surrender..but why would you?

@Ivor: because my mouse brain tells me that there is food nearby and since I don't currently have anything better to do I might as well find that stuff.

It's my current ambition, after I've found it I'll conclude that "dis plejs haz no moar chiiz" and try and get the **** outta there.

Because I'm a mouse.

I would want to know what my purpose is in the maze, what are the intentions of the "masters". Because I am in the cheese maze, I would assume they test my intelligence. I would go find the cheese, break it and try to write something with it.

If they know of my intelligence, and yet just want to keep me in captivity for their pleasure, yeah I'd stick around. Try to find any weaknesses in my prison, or try to find some of these humans (I assume) to be sympathetic to me and let me go.

If they all are sadistic and stuff I would go on a hunger strike.

You are a mouse. Why would you want to escape as long as they keep you safe? Unless you want small mice cubs which you're expected to eat 50% of anyway, I don't get what's so great about escaping to a place where your fabolous mental capabilities will be nill and squat when you meet the regular house cat.

My first option would not be to escape, but to communicate. If they don't give a rats snow then I would know something is wrong, and I wouldn't stick around to wait when they decide to test a poison on me.
