For town screens: One doesn't have to see the individual buildings, one must just be immersed into the faction's home base. H5 did this perfectly.

With H6, towns are less important than in any previous series in terms of how many you have (with area of control, etc.) so an immersive feeling is better than seeing each building, i.e. seeing each building built in like 10,000 towns is not that important....

I think we will just have to agree to disagree.
The town screens are overdone, too "majestic", too pompous.
That works for some fantasy settings, like Warcraft and Warhammer (*cough*) but it's not what comes to mind when I think of HoMM.

I sense no atmosphere nor immersion looking at them.

Edit: I'll even go so far as to say that the H5 town screens are to H2-3's what H5's writing is to H2-3's.
The screens lack a certain something, and that someting is subtlety.

I liked the H3 town screens to but a lot of the H5 ones were amazing. I love Haven, Academy and Sylvan. Of course, it has a lot to do with the H5 music being amazing and epic.

Writing was best in H4. tbh for H7, I'd prefer a campaign like those in H4 instead of like in the later games with lots of flashy cut-scenes and stuff.

Vanilla, I presume. The Gathering Storm was a painful experience(and I never played the Wings of War).

I doubt that we can go back to the H4 style, but the addition of extended pop-up windows would certainly allow for more characterisation.  It would certainly be welcome.

As for H6...I liked it. Nothing nearly as good as Tawni Balfour's or Emilia/Solymr's campaign but overall I still prefer it to H5 or H3 campaigns(heretical, I know, but still...). Then again, I had to wait until HoE to get a H5 I really liked.

Nah, Veteran Hero is just attending the Italy-Croatia match, which is an adventure in itself.

Finally!

I hope new patch will bring us (at least) one big scenario with Crag Hack and bunch of multiplayer maps.

I'm still waiting for Sandro, Solmyr and.... Gosh, there's so much heroes I want to see once again. I mean: their new/another appearance in M&M games.

According the the official Heroes VI Website, that seems to be exactly what it is. Looks like it's DLC, available on the 12th of July. Same time we get patch 1.5, with townscreens.

Looking at Stronghold town screen, HD version, I actually like the undeveloped town screen! The terrain is lush, with little animation (water flowing through the rivers, some birds flying in the sky etc), it would be very beautiful!

But then the immersion is gone from the fully upgraded town screen. There are several reasons, imo :

1) the buildings are too big! how about reducing the size of some buildings, while keeping the palace/town center big?

2) the town development = creature dwelling/other building only. Using HoMM III's Rampart, there are several houses which "grow" whenever we build the town centre. Adding several tents/small houses in the middle of the screen, will add the illusion of "growth".

Here is my experiment with the Stronghold town screens. I merely shrink most of the buildings and replace some (using Gimp). I am optimist that the developer can do better than my editing

Looks much better imo! Great job! The townscreens are just a joke! Cant they see that the buildings stand out so much and that its a mess? Seriously? The Necro townscreen is good but the stronghold one is the worst townscreen in the Heroes series ( not counting the ones we have now in h6 ).

Definitely an improvement, good job. Let's hope they take notice

The Necropolis dwellings need shrinking as well. As the town hall gets upgraded, so should the city as a whole, just like in Heroes 3 and 5. Just having these overly large dwellings is a nightmare

It can be done in short time. All I do just :

a) shrink buildings to 70-80% of their original size
b) move some of them so they are not blocking each other/cluttering in one space
c) add "little houses" whose number increases along with the town center's level

===

For the Necropolis, I would suggest :

a) shrink the buildings
b) align them in rows and columns, making building blocks. I think rigid blocks fits Necro's philosophy more than scattered buildings.
c) reduce the green particles, as per Alcibiades' suggestion
d) add little graveyards (to substitute little houses) when the town centre is being updated

Agree completely, except make sure the graveyards / houses don't all look exactly the same. Otherwise, big .

Is that really the barbarian town screen?
It looks even more like a bad cut-and-paste Photoshop job than the necro town.

About the Hauses, which should be there. I think something inspired by Dark messiah (oMaM) would suit even this image nice.

I mean Gliff houses, they even have e big Cliff ehind the town hall

I don't know about making them 70-80% smaller, but maybe reduce their size by 10% and they wouldn't stick out as much. However we still don't know what they will look like when there's particles and different effects going off. Might blend in a little better
