Lady Liberty was slain today

Today, for those you who have not heard, Lady Liberty was murdered and the liberals rejoiced greatly.

Clicky

The US supreme Court upheld the individual mandate for all Americans to purchase health insurance that the liberals passed while in control of Congress. My only hope is that the Great Lady will not rest in peace. The American people can rise up, vote the Marxists out of power, and restore hope and Liberty to the land. If they fail to resurrect Lady Liberty more death will come. The government will continue to grab more power over the people until all kneel before Darth Obama and his goons.

Perhaps you should emigrate, Elodin. Your country is being overrun. And the Chinese have not even arrived yet.

The galactic empire is actually just misunderstood and wrongly overthrown. The empire tried to create a unified, safe and peaceful galaxy. The rebel alliance was actually nothing more than a terrorist organization and like every other terrorist organization, they saw themselves as heroes which is clearly shown since the movies were made from the 'good guys'(terrorists/haters) perspective. Sure, the empire was a little rough but the end sometimes justify the means and what does the rebels accomplish except dividing the galaxy and killing countless of people. Remember that if Leia had not been so fanatic over her misguided cause, then Alderaan would not have been destroyed.

So next time you pass by Mark Hamill, stare angrily at him a little and just maybe he will feel a little guilt for killing all those stormtroopers who obviously did not have the heart to aim and shoot at a young boy. He also killed his emperor and father.

Long live the empire!!! At least they got health care...

I read the whole decision and don't agree with the idea that the SC's job is to save bills at all costs, to find an interpretation that makes it Constitutional.  I don't buy the justification that the mandate can be read as a tax, not given the language in the law itself, not given the fact that president has said repeatedly that it's not a tax, and not given the legislative history of the bill in Congressional record.  The dissent lays out some good arguments why this doesn't work, and I'm inclined to agree with them.

That said, it's funny to see the way the media spins it.  I certainly wouldn't call it an unblemished victory, which is the way it's being sold.  For one thing, the President can't really say it's not a tax anymore, and now he's pretty much responsible for a large tax increase on a lot of people - that could be politically damaging in the election cycle.  More importantly, since Justice Roberts wrote the opinion, there is a lot in there that sets some precedents about the limits of federal power.  I suspect that this decision will be cited in the future more for the way it defines what the govt can't do than what it can.  And the decision does rule unconstitutional the expansion of medicaid that's cited in the law.  And, of course, it was a narrow decision - certainly not a slam dunk validation of the law.

Anyway, I still maintain that this law will do nothing to improve the cost of healthcare in this country.  In fact, it'll make it far worse.  Regardless of Constitutionality, it's not a wise law at all.

You have to see this realistically.

If medical insurance, that is, the regular payment that allows to be treated when ill, no matter the cost, is left to eveeryone - then you will either have to leave everyone to theis fate who cannot pay, or SOMEONE (the tax payer) must pay the bills. RighT?

Let's say you have a serious illness that can bé treated in a hospital, but will cost 20.000 bucks. However, you don't have an insurance and you don't have any money to spare.

Now what? Are you left to rot and die because of that? Or will "society" (aka "the tax payer") will jump in for you?

Now, in this case, the individual freedom of decision obviously FORCES the rest of society to pick between a) leave it to private beneficient organizations to come to the rescue; b) let the poor ill rot and die or c) pay up for those who take advantage of the unwillingness of good people to let the next person just die.

CLEARLY - VERY clearly - the best system here is, that a society will grant MINIMUM treatment FOR FREE - without any insurances to earn themselves fat and burn a lot of money into their pockets, financing a system of wasting ressources, ridiculously overpriced goods and services, corruption and fraud.
No, it should be GOVERNMENT RUN, that is SOCIAL institutions where everyone can go and get treatment for free.

ADDITIONALLY, everyone might of course pay up for PRIVATELY rendered services, or pay for all kind of insurances granting better than minimum treatment, no or small waiting times, state of the art technique and so on and so forth.

This can be compared with SCHOOLING - also government run, while everyone may pay up to put their kids into private elitary schools.
So HEALTH should be treated the same way than schooling, because it's simply too important to leave it completely to the discretion of Joe Smith.

That's because prices are inflated.  There are about a hundred reasons for that, and as far as I see it the ACA doesn't address any of them.  In fact, it'll make things worse.

You assume it's obvious that forcing people to pay for strangers' health care is better than the alternative. Why, exactly, should people be forced to take care of strangers?
