to late for wishes, only hope left!
Enjoying this forum alot and back in the world of heroes, i'll like to share one of my dearest hopes for homm4.
In Homm3 the wait command did a lot too make the battles more tactical and interesting.
But it also made room for some awfull tactics, with the fastess creatures. Like wait, hit and run out of range
as the fast creatures get their first turn. Paired with no retaliation the lone devil could defeat a single stack of 1000 of slow moving dwarfs. While an enjoyable trick to pull of, not actual an game balancing factor.
What I hope to see is that the wait command, do force a unit to loose half its movement/actionrating in the next round.
I would have loved that in homm3 , because speed would have become a little less important. IMHO speed was the single most unbalanced factor in homm3 , partly because of spellcasting, but mainly because of the ability to wait the opponent out.(I hold that single feature mainly responisible for the disgrace of slow homm3 towns like fortress and stronghold, not the lack of magic)
But anyway, a change like this might have its space in homm4
For obvius reason I don't know. With the split in action order and movement distance, this idea might only belong to the the action order in Homm4.
The idea is that if a unit waits , it should not get first move next round. This eliminate the worst cases of hit and run. It also makes sense that a unit that have used all its inititive to be last one round, not then have enough to be first in the next.

H3
One of the problem, and one of the things I hated the most in H3, was that the fast creatures were also the strongest.
I've always hated the fact that the archangel was both the strongest and the fastest unit in H3 (excluding phoenixes, it's another problem). Your archangels played first, could attack who they wanted, and killed a lot. And ofcourse, they were very good for the hit and run tactic. I think the hit and run would have been less interesting with less strong creatures. For example, the dragon fly could use this tactic, but they can't attack who they wanted when they wanted, and you always feared most with doing it, and it was less eficient than with archangels or archdevils.
There is already one good thing in H4: two features, speed and initiative. That will not always be the fastest creature who plays first, so the hit and run will be more difificult to do.
I can't tell you more, but since I didn't look at the creatures features, I hope that they are well made, and like you, I can just hope!

The Wait command in HOMM3 actually took a lot of strategy out of the game for me (vs computers). The reason being that the computer never uses it, while I use it all the time..
Unless the opponent has fast creatures or shooters, I always wait for them to walk as far as they can before I take my turn so I can attack them first.. If all my walkers walk half way, it would only put them in position to get attacked by the opponents who normally wouldn't be able to reach me had they gone first.. So the solution? Use Wait and get the computer to move as far as they can first. It's cheesy, but I guess so are hero chains.

I called the thred "to late for wishes, only hope left!"
because I tought of 3do had the power to grant wishes, but thats over, because game is done. So whats left is the hope that they have made some good decisions!
Thats was the thought, behind.

Okay, now I understand. Oh, well, even though the game is complete, I suppose this forum can stil be used to inspire expansion paks. I'm going to go back to my "Sea Town" idea. Maybe this time I could find a way to make the image work out the way I want it to! That forge town sure is hard to edit....

That's not true. Computer uses WAIT very frequently - and almost very well - especially when comes to combine it with spells like blind and creatures to who you can't retaliate.

Well.. not in my games.
But I've only played H3 and AB, never played SOD or any other heroes packages after that.

Tha computer uses the wait tactic only if you play at hard difficulty or above. The normal difficulty also grants the player an extra 5000 gold compared to the computer so it's not a real normal difficulty level.
