Mat looked at their coins and finds that he doesn't recognize their making. Which wasn't all that surprising, considering everything that happened yesterday, but it still made him a little home-sick. And broke. "I have a slight problem, friends..." He held up his hands and chuckled nervously. "I appear to have lost my coin purse in the... shipwreck." A good a name as any for what had happened. "Could I gamble something else instead?"

((He has a rather fancy coat on right now and a raven ring made of silver, as well as his hat, knives and Ashandarei, though the last two are not for sale.))

Broïndur decides to visit the local blacksmith first before he went to the tavern to see what this hunt was all about. With his gear being in the state that it was, his "sword" needed sharpening and he'd need a few whetstones to keep it'd edge from going completely dull. A good hunting knife would not go amiss either. Or he might trade his sword and shield for a half-decent battleaxe. His body may be Orcish now, but his mind and soul was still Dwarven, so an axe, hammer or morningstar would suit his idea of a weapon much better.
He saw that the blacksmith was just opening up his shop, so he decided to go for it.
"Top o' the morning te ye, Blacksmith! What have ye on offer t'day?"

When Rincewind woke up in the morning he couldn't decide what to do next. He didn't share the enthusiasm some of the other shipwrecked showed at the mention of a treasure hunt. It reeked of adventure and excitement. What he needed was a knowledgeable wizard to turn him back and send him to the Discworld. He examined the village from the deck. A simple, little village. Even if it could produce a decent wizard due some natural magical field, he would be just an upstart with some talent and no knowledge. No, it was doubtful that Rincewind could find what he was looking for here. His best bet would be to travel with his saviors, but he doubted they would take him. On the Disc any self-respecting merchant hired a wizard to travel with him. It meant both good luck and protection. But Rincewind didn't look like a wizard anymore.

He hopped ashore. The fact that he didn't tumble in his robes and fell surprised him. Then he remembered he wasn't wearing any robes now. He inspected himself and found a couple of very menacing-looking daggers. He really did look like a member of an Assassins' Guild. While he held the daggers in his hands and tried to figure out how to use them he saw a very rich-looking person climb onto the ship he just disembarked. The man looked so extravagantly rich that he had no place in this small village. This was a long-shot, but Rincewind didn't have anything else to go on. He climbed back on board, convincing the guards that he wanted to wait for his comrade who was still cleaning the deck, and tried to find a quiet spot from where he could eavesdrop on the rich man and the captain without being seen.

Mat:

The dwarves tense up until you mention wagering something else instead, at which point two of them scoot over to make room for you.

----------------

Broïndur:

The blacksmith here seems a little surly, though it may just be from his previous customers—one of whom is an Elf with a snooty demeanor and rather high-pitched voice.

"I can offer a fair bit if you've got the coin," he replies. He shows you his wares, most of which are hanging from the walls for display purposes.

Most of the body armor he has is leather, but there's also a battered chainmail shirt and a couple old helmets with the worst of the dings worked out of them. There's even an unholy cross between the two: a single pair of leather boots with iron plates laced over the broad spaces. As far as weapons go he has daggers, an old notched cutlass...and a battleaxe, although it isn't in much better shape than anything else available.

----------------

Rincewind:

Luckily for Rincewind the captain's cabin isn't exactly soundproof, although there is still a wall between him and his quarry so some of the exchange is lost. But even with the interference, it's clear that the overly-polite facade between the captain and the wealthy man vanishes the moment the door closes.

"You took your time getting here. I knew I should have sent my own men instead of hiring you mangy peasants—"

The Dark Elf's voice is amused. "If this is a ruse to lower my fee, Your Grace, it won't work; we both know you couldn't have gotten what you require in the time frame you wanted any other way. Speaking of which, here is the first part of the shipment. My crew will unload the rest of your things tonight, after you give us the gold you promised."

"I'm not paying you until I have what I asked for, in my possession you dusty, dirty—"

"No. You know you can trust us to be discreet; a wise man like yourself wouldn't have hired us if you didn't. But I know exactly the sort of man you are, Your Grace, and I want payment up front."

There is a fair amount of grumbling before the other man finally acquiesces. "...I'll have the money sent over before the contest starts. But if you renege on our contract, so help me—"

"You'll have your shipment, never doubt that," the Dark Elf assures him suavely. "We never back out of a deal if we can help it, it's bad for business."

A moment or so later the wealthy man exits, and the captain shows him off the ship; both are all smiles again.

Broïndur looked round the shop. The wares on offer looked meager at best, even for a blacksmith on a remote island. The man looked the kind that had been a blacksmith born in a family of blacksmiths, had no particular interest or talent to continue the family-busines, but did so anyway due to him being stuck in the arse-end of nowhere in particular. The disinterest the man displayed could not have been all due to a rough morning.
The more Broïndur looked round, the more he got the idea he could do a better job himself, if he had a day or two to get worked in. He was a warrior born, as most of the members of the Bloodspillers clan and he was an Orc now. But he had been a Dwarf for more then 80 years(making him a young adult in dwarfterms back home) and he had been responsible for keeping his gear in shape for all his life, so he knew his way around a smithy. And if there was one thing he knew about, it was weapons.
Again and again, his gaze drifted to the battle-axe. It wasn't in the best condition and a true Dwarf Blacksmith would be deeply ashamed if he had created it, but it was a battle-axe nontheless.
"Do ye mind if I test this?" Broïndur asked indicating the axe. He did not particularly wait for the man to protest and picked it up. He felt the axe with the experience of wielding axes for years. It was top heavy, even for an axe. But the edge was keen and the haft looked sturdy enough for heavy duty use.
Broïndur put the axe back, drew his "sword" and put it on the counter.
"Do ye do trade-ins?"

Tristan rose slowly from his sleeping corner. He did so with some aches and pains. He must have slept in an odd position; one that gave him cramps. He had not experienced such feelings since many years prior to becoming a star. It was one he definitely didn’t miss.

Tristan made his way off the ship, and gazed around. It was certainly small. It felt smaller than what he once called home, Wall. Prior to heading in, he decided to do some stretches along the shore, to see if it would help get the cramps out. He thought he remembered such things helping.

After the stretches, Tristan headed in to the village. As he went around, looked at each person he passed by. Perhaps Yvaine somehow got here too. None of those he seen looked like Yvaine, though maybe she was in the same condition as he was. It would take too much time, and be a little strange if he was to question each and every person he ran into.

Before he knew it, Tristan hit a fork in the road. In front of him, a religious style building. To the right he could see a bridge in the distance, with some structure he couldn’t guess at beyond. To the left, he could see a building that looks as though it may be the place that holds the governing force here. It may be where the scavenger hunt is based. He wasn’t really interested in acquiring any land, but it may help in obtaining some way to get back to Yvaine. He heads over to the Town Hall, to get more information on this hunt.

Bowie:

The innkeeper sucks in a breath and lets it out gustily, then sets a tankard in front of each of you. A few interested patrons scoot their seats around to watch.

((Target Number: 90
You: 64
Orc: 23))

Both of you down the first round without too much trouble, though the Orc seems to down it more easily than you.

((Target Number: 80
You: 85
Orc: 9))

Apparently your new body can't hold alchohol very well, because around the end of the second tankard the room starts spinning and you pass out drunk.

----------------

Broïndur:

The blacksmith hefts your sword in his hand, examines it for a moment and shrugs. "I can get as much coin for the one as the other. Sure, I'll do your 'trade-in.' Just pass the word on where you got that" he nods at the axe "if anyone asks."

----------------

Tristan:

You go to the Town Hall and go inside. A spindly man with a quill and a stack of parchment is seated behind a desk by the door. "Can I help you?" he asks.

On explaining what you want, he gives you the relevant details:

The scavenger hunt will start at noon and last until someone brings in all the required objects. The hunt will take place here on Emerald Island, and everything you will be asked to find can be found on or immediately around the island.

The winner (or winners, as he explains that small groups are allowed to participate) will be made ruler of Castle Harmondale and the lands surrounding it—a very great honor in and of itself, even without the chance to join the peerage.

Each party will be required to provide for their own food, lodging, and other expenses, but the winners will have passage to their new lands paid for by Lord Markham.

The contest is undertaken solely at the applicant's own risk, but the man behind the counter assures you that aside from a few minor, avoidable hazards, Emerald Island is quite safe.

"I'll be sure to do that." Broïndur said with a smile, feeling slightly odd as his lips stretched over his tusks.
'Though I doubt anyone will.' He thought to himself as he walked away. 'There is little demand for talentless blacksmiths with no business sense. Molten down, that sword could be made into three such axeheads at the least.' He stuck the axe down the loop in his belt where the sword previously was.
Broïndur set out towards what looked like the townhall to inquire about the hunt of today.

Mat looked down and decided that he should start off small. No need to intimidate anybody just yet... "Alright, though a little water logged this coat of mine is, unfortunately, rather fancy. If I'm going to lose anything..." He noted that he was wearing leather armor underneath. That was new, "Might as well be that, right? Don't want people thinking I'm some kind of bloody lord..." Upon hearing that those entering would be required to fund their expenses, Tristan recalls not being about to find any coin pouches, or anything of the sort.

"So, where would one sign up for this hunt, and do you happen to know of any odd jobs anyone would be willing to pay for around these parts?"

Koto:

The first thing you're aware of is an odd rushing sound in your ears and something tugging at your legs.

Before you can register much more you're dragged out of the sea into breathable air, though you realize after a moment or two you still can't move much. Closer examination reveals that you're tangled in a net, along with a couple hand-sized fish, one of which is flopping futilely against your stomach. It also isn't your stomach, but you're interrupted from prolonged contemplation on that subject by a wrinkled old hand grabbing your shoulder.

"Oy!" The owner of the hand squints closely at you, obviously rather nearsighted. "What are you doin' out here?"

----------------

Mat:

((Roll = 5))

A few rounds pass and you lose your coat to the Dwarf on your right.

----------------

Tristan, Broïndur and Bowie:

"So, where would one sign up for this hunt, and do you happen to know of any odd jobs anyone would be willing to pay for around these parts?"

The scribe smiles, revealing crooked teeth. "You sign up here, along with any of your friends you want to compete with. As for jobs, I know for fact the innkeeper's looking for any help he can get, and you can probably get work at the docks—cleaning fish, mending nets, unloading ships that come into port, that sort of thing." He looks thoughtful for a moment, before adding, "I did hear the Elemental Guild had some trouble with Dragonflies recently if you're more violently inclined."

----------------

Fandral:

You finish your volunteered-for chores around 8 AM; shortly after leaving the ship you hear a 'hsst!' nearby.

It's your friend whose chores you finished. He pulls out a bottle, some form of alcohol by the look of it ((Tobersk Brandy)) and hands it to you, making a 'shhh!' gesture. "Don't tell the captain," he says, before sneaking back to wherever it is he's presumably supposed to be.

Fandral doesn't usually drink before noon, but under current circumstances he allowed himself to enjoy the gift. He began looking for a cozy little place to rest his weary head, though it wasn't long after he had begun his search that Fandral spotted a well that he could rest beside. Upon making himself comfortable, he drew the bottle and yanked the already loose cork, he then took a strong whiff before committing to the drink. The taste was sublime and much to Fandral's pleasure; drinking heartily from the bottle, however as he did so, he began to heavily lean on the aged walls of the well, which subsequently gave way to the almost brutish force, at which point Fandral took a frightfully unexpected little tumble down the well.

Rincewind disembarked again as quickly as possible before he's spotted. All thoughts about traveling with the dark sailors vanished from his head. They were good merchants. Rincewind knew about good merchants. They would make the best of profit from him. Even if it meant selling him. Piece by piece.

The only people he may try to trust in this foreign world, Rincewind thought to himself as he strolled around the town, were the people in his condition. And besides, there's strength in numbers, or at least a decent amount of decoys. As he passed by the Town Hall, he saw three of his fellow body-losers standing inside. Considering everyone split up in the morning, this was a size-able group. He went inside.

"Found out anything interesting, then?"
