Two handed madness

Was there EVER a cRPG/H&S game where two handed weapons were a better choice than dual wielding?

Off the bat:

Baldur's gate - no
Baldur's gate 2 - no
Diablo - no
Diablo 2 - no
Diablo 3 - no
Dragon Age - no
Titan Quest - no
Torchlight - no
Dungeon Siege 1 - no
Dungeon Siege 2 - no

How come 2h weapons are ALWAYS underpowered ? And how come dual wielding is pretty much always the best combination, even though it's crap in real life?

Because this is fiction, not real life.

In the long run they tend to be pretty damn good which is kind of fair - needing a lot of specialization for some lovely dual chopping action later. But if we're gonna go real life then the two handed swords aren't even a real option, they were handly a weapon for dueling and used for breaking formations etc if I remember correctly. At least there are two shining examples in favour of the two handers:

- Carsomyr +6

- Sephiroth

I always thought Carsomyr was for newbies who can't aim one of the 9001 dispel abilities in the game. The sword was crap It offered nothing good and the damage was subpar to a good dual-wield combo.

And I ofc meant games where you can pick between 2w and 2h... Sephiroth was classy, but FF7 didn't even support dual wielding

Truth be told, the problem with the two-handed weapons is the among the smallest realism flaws in these games.

Dual-wielding in vanilla Skyrim sucks because there's no block option. You just charge in like a retard with a troubled past that has nothing to lose.

Once you master the timing on a two-hander it's nonstop domination. The game incorporates what a lot of games don't: reach.

Although technically speaking, slaughtering everything with a bow or magic is still optimal. Then again it's an RPG, so you're not suppose to give a **** about the mechanical stuff anyway. That's what strategy games are for.

Then again dual-dagger-sneak-attack is the answer to everything in Skyrim.

1 hit KO:ing them dragons.

Like...

Assassin's Blade - X15 Dagger sneak attack bonus
DB gloves - Sneak attacks doubled (now we're on x30)
+ 2 of your favourite daggers

Meaning dual wielding sneak attacks do x60 damage.

Now we add the Orc Berserker Rage on top of that and double it to x120 or something just because there's no kill like overkill.

Never played Skyrim, but well, good to know there's at least ONE game that gives 2handers at least SOME glory

but of course, from what Adrius said, 2w is better as usual.

I never used daggers, but I looked at the "x15" sneak attack damage (IIRC) option that you can take, and I imagined to myself that it probably hurt, a lot.

Well maybe I'm wrong. Maybe dual-wielding in Skyrim solves everything too.

Doomforge just has the wrong attitude. You just need to dual-wield more and give your character long silky hair and a goatee. Why won't you give in?

In the end, everything is overpowered in Skyrim anyway, but if you wanna DPS like a mothertrucking Sephiroth Super Nova on acid then sneaky daggers is where it's at.

I thought the default dual wielding character is a female elf with long hair and massive boobs packed in a way too small breastplate.

Kotor has dualbladed lightsabers as the overkill, not dual sabers.

Can you dual-wield dual-bladed lightsabers?

You could call it Force-Blender.

Jedi Academy has saber staffs(ala Maul) and an option to dual-wield two single ones, and saber staffs rule. Though in fairness I have to note that dual-wield has the most devastating specials in terms of DPS, they're simply no match for the amazing versatility of saber staffs. (Plus, You know, giant lightsabers )
