The beta community just rolled into the live one.

Quote: Btw, I was surprised to see a lot of older posts in the forum since it just came out?
Quote: I only have one fear and that's balance.
^
Balance in this game is achieved in a similar manner to that of the old 3DO Heroes games, where every faction may develop "rock, paper, scissors, water, fire, or rust", instead of representing just one or two. Plus, in a game genre where most of the time balance is practically defined by the AI's ability to play it, Stardock blows most of the competition right out of the water. I'm sure once multi-player is implemented there will be certain flavors of custom factions that are more popular than others, but the strategic depth that evolves as the game progresses presents many more crucial decisions than the few choices made before it even begins. Personally I enjoy designing difficult games for myself, and only winning once in a blue moon.

I've been meaning to post about this. This game is great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any and all lovers of fantasy-based strategy, which, presumably, is everyone on this forum.

I don't even have the game yet.
I'm still a biiiit sceptical I guess.
If I would download I'd get it through Steam since I find Impulse kinda annoying.

I chuckled at that. When I bought Elemental I was only impressed by the daily game ads, since they would pop up even when disconnected.
The game "reads" good, I have to give it a go, hopefully I'll get some value back out of my lost money.<L> Btw, my D/L was estimated @ 90 min.

OK, wait... I googled this game and now am confused.
About a year ago we had Elemental - War of Magic. I downloaded it, tried it, uninstalled it in a day, it was so uninspired and horrible. The combat system was boring, the game had no real "races" just various re-skins of humans. Most of the landscape was just empty wasteland, and the unit creation basically amounted to you putting peasants into different clothes and adding swords or clubs in their hands - a far cry from the versatile units of say, Age of Wonders or King's Bounty. Where are my dragons and griffins and orcs and hydras?
Oh, and I am not even mentioning the bugs. The fact that there was a patch almost as large in bytes as the game the next day...
So, is this even related to that game? The engine looks almost identical. Please tell me the town/unit selection is better this time... One of the important factors of HOMM for me was how you had various very different factions with very different units - not just the 256th variety of "human in armor".
I became vary of the so-called TBS games that come out these days - HOMM VI was a disappointment that made me dislike Ubi even more (releasing new factions in expansions? You are not Blizzard, Ubi... nobody likes you that much) and I don't even want to mention Warlock: Master of the Arcane. It takes gall to release a game without even ONE campaign for 25$, really. Not to mention the non-existant combat system or how even on easy difficulty I was crushed in a week by stronger enemies who got placed right next to my capitol by the random map generator.

If you purchased Elemental Wars a year ago you should be eligible to get Fallen Enchantress for free. I got my free FE but have not tried it out yet. So I'd recommnend you log into the Stardock website, download the free FE and decide for yourself.
There is a FE expansion to be released sometime soon but I'll certainly not be getting it before I extensively play FE myself to see if it is an improvement over Elemental Wars.

From my (admittedly) poor experience, the game is some fantasy Civilization wannabe where the neutrals are far more dangerous than the "opponents". Too much micro-management, too few (or maybe even no) truly original things, veeeery slow pace. Below average at best.

The way you can create your own faction is what seems truly appealing to me at least.

I just logged into my Stardock account. Evidently purchasers of EW also get the Fallen Enchantress expansion for free. It is downloading on STEAM now as we speak (I got the code from my Stardock downloads.) I'm assuming this is a beta version since the game is not due out until May.
The FE expansion is supposed to be a standalone expansion that includes ALL of the contents of FE.

I have played this game for quite some time now and think it is quite deep and the fact that the company is still fully supporting it only a good thing.

So Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes got released outta nowhere, didn't even know they were making it.
Looks more HoMM than ever. Pretty sweet.
Apparently it's getting nice reviews as well, seems like Stardock finally hit the jackpot.

I'm not at home at the moment, but the graphics were actually overhauled in Legendary Heroes; and I believe nexusmods is the place to look for.. mods.
