Maciek, download 2.43 update again please. The 2430 problem was fixed quite long ago (in the same day).

Well, my Windows 7 is also 32-bit (upgraded from Vista). Probably my SoD installation is somehow wrong a bit (I've been copying same SoD folder instead of reinstalling). Whatever, I'll try later after reinstalling and/or on XP.

Bersy, thanks for commenting. I am the one who had the wrong version of Era 2.43. I downloaded it as soon as I saw the release, but had not installed it (until yesterday) since Era 2.41 was working excellently and there could be more updates.
Maciek, my Windows 7 was also upgraded from (ugh!) Vista (worst operating system ever released IMHO), and I also have been copying a Heroes 3 folder for all my Era installations.
I have another working hypothesis that might explain the data, but it is too silly to mention in public. I'll just say that I have uploaded era.dll for Era 2.41 (this was the only change from 2.40 to 2.41, a new dll) into the Hidden Spells folder. If you put that in an otherwise-working Era 2.40 folder (replacing the one that is there - move it somewhere as a backup) and HS still crashes ... then I have wasted another hypothesis.
What I need is a few hours on your computer. As I always say, the three most important things in science are data, data, and data.
Update - I am working on an alternate method which might be more universal. I have some more tests to make, then some work to implement it, but in the meantime I wouldn't bother with any lengthy re-installation work. I would be surprised if this was an installation problem, because more things would not work if that were the case. I think the problem is that I found a method of doing something which works on a couple of my laptops with different Windows systems and assumed it would work on all XP and W7 systems, but it doesn't.

Still crashes with 2.41 dll. I'm sorry, but it seems, the thing I've been installing Era on is not exactly a clean SoD. I've found a very old autosave from a 6-player game in its games folder and I think I replaced at least one file before that game to play with 5 other guys (3 vs 3) over the internet. It was supposed to inrease stability, but still there were some technical issues (don't remember what, perhaps somebody got kicked out or something) a few times in the very first week, so we didn't even finnish that game. I also found a mysterious 'heroes33.exe' in game root folder, which probably has something to do with that events.

I have added another method for finding the address I need. On my computer it gives the same results as the old method, but maybe on your PC it will give a better result than the old method. It is uploaded as the latest HiddenSpells.exe at the usual place.
At the start of a new game, it does a memory search and compares the new result to the old result in a displayed message. This may give me some more data to think about if the new method still does not work for you. If it does work, then I will eventually delete the startup message.
I would like very much to enable you to play Hidden Spells so I can get your advice on it.

It works! Thanks, Jim. I'll comment on gameplay once I play through.
Perhaps you are curious, here's your starting message in 4 consecutive tests:
Debug=0 in heroes3.ini, the message displayed was:
Hint test = Computer, at 72496228,
v325=-1973923536
I set Debug=1 in heroes3.ini, the message displayed was:
Hint test = Computer, at 73413732,
v325=-1973923536
Again, I set Debug=0:
Hint test = Computer, at 73610340,
v325=-1973923536
Again 0 (no change):
Hint test = Computer, at 74265700,
v325=-1973923536

I was curious, and nervous that it would not work. Thanks for the information. The numbers in the 70+ millions are similar to those I see on my PC's. The other numbers are ridiculous. The Dragon Peaks mod could be affected similarly so I will be updating that soon.
