Poll Question: Which Mod is the best?
Dear Community,
i just got back to this awesome game and was overwhelmed how much has been done since the first years of its release.
Now i have spent the last two days figuring out how to get the whole thing running and then trying different mods, but just cannot decide, which one to use.
Its a pretty tough decision, since there are so many great mods out there with so many great and different content, and since i can use just a single one, to avoid the whole game getting buggy and/or unbalanced as hell.
So...
Which Mod can you recommend above all others, or do you think that Wake of Gods plays best without any additions?
Thanks in advance

Hard to tell if HoTA is any good since I don't know any russian and thus haven't played it yet. However I'm guessing it may very well become one of my favorite mods, once I understand it

I voted for the Phoenix Mod, but personally I think that, while mods that change the mechanics of the game are useful and important, the most important thing to me is the map itself. That is, whether it was done for SoD or WoG or some other mod, a good map is fun to play, and better for me than a random map.
There are many great maps (and a lot of poor ones). My personal favorite is "Stargate Atlantis Rising I", designed by Salamandre. Technically it is a mod (new objects, new creatures), so that makes it my favorite mod. I get that the list is for mods which can be used to play random maps, though, so I voted on that basis.

Difficult to say. I'll go with HotA, although it still lacks an english version...
I also miss Succession Wars in the poll

Thanks for all the answers so far
Sorry for not having "Succession Wars" added to the poll. I didnt realize there were players who actually like Heroes 2 more than 3, and now i cant change the original topic anymore...

This is like making a poll like:
You enter an alcohol shop; which alcohol you will buy because you like it most?
a) Whiskey
b) Martini
c) Coca cola
d) Other
It will help a lot the statistics, sure.

By Coca Cola you mean HotA?
I voted for HotA, obviously, but actually I'm waiting also for another things like ERA 2.5 (if it can be stated as "mod") and MF. Therefore "Other" would be also good answer.

Definitely Succession Wars for its beauty and true spirit.
Next would be HoTA for its Cove faction, fits very well.
I'm also very fond of WoG because of all the features it implements to the game (ie troop stack gain experience or Heroes can have 9-10 skills).

I vote for Succession Wars and VCMI (VCMI is not mod, but...).

But Macron1 loves modding platform it provides even without scripts.
Yeah VCMI team done great work but I'll wait until they have scripting or dll interface. For now I play heavily modded ERA including my mods. I'm modding for era and at least one huge project awaits to be finished (the one not yet officially started) so hope my work didn't waste because beeing late (if VCMI grows enough it would be better/easier to do that on VCMI platform).
ANYbody would help hammering my bugs with texts? separate from that my mods seems to be bugfree now.

To be honest, scripts and libraries have been written to bypass the functioning of original exe-file.
Actually in Russia ERM and DLLs are illegal by the means of our laws. Just no one to punish yet.
And VCMI is open-source - so theoretically you don't need any ERMs or DLL at all - just learn Pascal (or on what VCMI is written) and change VCMI directly to match your needs.
Practically I have not looked yet for source codes. But I plan this for nearest future.

Maybe, once VCMI will allow complex scripting. This will take some time, I think. As I said, new towns/new creatures are not the priority for all map makers around.
