really? AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!! Best Game News for me since I don't know when!
EDIT: But I should keep expectations low probably^^ I hope the "All new 3D graphics that provide a crisper and more detailed overview of the world and battle maps." don't come with gameplay issue. AoW is a series with a deep gameplay to me...right now, seeing AoW 3 is on development, I think about isntalling AoW Shadow Magic once again...

Oh dear God. Age of Wonders 2 was one of the most soul-crushing games I've ever played. I never even made it past the first map. It was the Dark Souls of turn-based games.

This one - along with the second Eador - is quite likely to revive the TBS genre. Now when Heroes is basically a zombie barely standing upright and Disciples is unlikely to pick up after the failed start, AoW (if done right) will hardly have any competition.

I like the new classes. Personally I hope wizards will be something in between the first and second game.
Looking at the screens, it seems we'll get stacks too?
According to the interview in Dutch, the sea battles will be improved as well.
The adventure map looks as nice as always, although I have a bad feeling some of the magic is gone.

Well, I could beat the tutorial. I couldn't beat, however, the computer's unlimited resources and units.

Best news in ages! For me, AoW series is the standard with which all other fantasy TBS games are compared for excellence (I never got to play MoM).

For the leader, I personally liked the AoW one better than the shadow magic one (which I think was the same system as Aow2, more or less?!)
For the stacks...not sure?! COuldn't it be that weaker units are just regiments instead of single units now?
The Adventure Map looks nice indeed, and I think the battle map as well. (The screen with the spiders in the camp seems to incline that, again, there are very nice obstacles and that the location of fight is quite important (one of the things that were really great on Aow for me! That you could truly make a better stand if you chose the right place!)

What gives you that idea? I only saw advanture maps shots, and there it seems that the number of units within an army is marked on the flag, with the strongest unit being the one shown. Nothing new, that is.
I'm pretty excited as well about the game.

THis is certainly a battle map screen, I think, as well as this, but as mentioned, I do not think these are Stacks, but rather that weaker units come in regiments rather than alone, a fine solution imo.
EDIT: Just saw this screen and it looks extremely interesting, imo. Either that map is awesomely big or the backgroundmelts with the combat area somehow. Look at how far the castle looks from the troops! Nice!

Those are pretty awesome screens, certainly, and I agree with you about the depiction of weaker unit in formations, rather than having Heroes-like stacks.

Which bring us to an interesting point of realism. If unit formations are diminished before dying do they regen 'units' after heal spells and during strategic map health regen? Gameplay wise yes is the obvious answer but how exactly would a heal spells resurrect common soldiers but only if one of them is still alive?

Realistically speaking, they would have to lose damage capability before that - I don't think, realism will go that far.
On the other hand - who knows.

Yes that is true.
On the RTS side games have had the same mechanics for quite some time now. Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War and Command and Conquer are the first to come to mind.
For example, Command and Conquer 3 handled most infantry units in squads that did lose firepower when losing members. Didn't resurrect members if healed normally but could be retrained to a full squad.
The units in the squads had individual hp so depending on the attack type you could just lose health on most squad members evenly, the case with more diverse fire, eg. artilery, or concentrated on single members, eg. sniper. With similar damage both take the squad out in the same amount of time but the damage the squad can dish out before dying is quite different.
Similar mechanics could possibly bring different choices to attacking depending on situation. A dragon's breath attack would burn all units of the archer squad but attacking directly would kill members and lower the damage output. This would make the dragon suspectible to retaliation attacks. Would it be worth it to risk retaliation to lower the damage of the main attack?

Interesting point! )squads in oither games!) This was used in quite some games. Most prominently, for me, it remembers me of the old game "Masters of Magic" where you mostly hat squads, regiments or however you wanna cal it. MoM is also TBS, and it worked quite fine! Total War allways ad squads as well, and many other games worked with them in one way or another. I often thought that squads would fit very well with AoW, so that's a change that I'd like VERY much! =)
What I'm wondering is, how many and which races we'll get. For AoW, I would HIGHLY prefer them keeping a high number of races, but I fear that giving only few in the original version of a game to have better expansion sellings has become quite common :/ WHat I'd prefer, would indeed be a race Mix from AoW and Shadow Magic, something like...
Good:
-Archons
-Dwarves
-Halflings
-New Race? Or Frostlings or Lizardmen gone bad?
Neutral:
-High Elves (they mentioned Wood and Dark Elves rejoined and I think that'd be neutral...)
-Humans
-Frostlings or Lizardmen
-Nomads
Dark:
-Undead
-Goblins
-Orcs
-New Race? Or Maybe frostlings or Lizardmen go dark?
I would not like Shadow Demons or this white race from Shadow Magic return and I prefer Nomads (as name and many units and concepts) before Azraqs.
I know, it's much too early for such speculation, but that's jsut the way I am

Fabulous! I've been hoping and praying they would finally make another of these.
I just hope, like Jiriki9 said as well, that we get a lot of races like we had in the previous games. If it goes by the amount of hero types they showed, then that's only 6 races. That would be pretty low compared to the 15 that were in the last game.
