You are nitpicking, I am comparing size of the units with the size of other units. Beholder is huge compared to the humans as it should be.
Compared to the Beholder of the Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, which is really small and looks terrible, this one is amazing.
Also, they introduced squads instead of single unit in the party, so the whole battle is looking a lot more realistic than it was before.

I would say it just the other way around - beholders are just fantasy creatures, so there is no right size for them. They can be big, or small depending on the fantasy universe they are part of.
However, the laws of physics and human anatomy are pretty real. Therefore, the size of their arms compared to the size of the sword is a much more important factor of realism, IMO. Well, to be honest, even without the swords, such arms are ridiculously small for a warrior... unless they are skeletons

I get what do you mean, but you are nitpicking even more now.
What I wanted to say is that there is huge difference in creature size now, a lot more than what it was in AoW1 and AoW2.
And if I am not mistaken, those are Elves, so their arms make sense to me.

The argument for huge swords is that it makes units easy to distinguish at a glance. Age of Wonders III reuses models. All Theocrat or Elf units might have a common theme in appearance, for instance. If you just gave them bows instead, it might not be easy to notice. Many units are at least 6 times smaller compared to HOMM (squads instead of single figures).

Yeah, RMZ is right those are fragile elves so i dont see why should they have muscled arms like a human or orc. If you look closely to the human models they have much wider arms. Finally a game where elves not look like body builders.

Frankly, the problem is not with the size of the swords but with the cardboard-like appearance of the small units. Hopefully this is on low-resolution settings (not that it's incredibly important anyway).

The main difference is Heroes focuses on presentation, single player and exploration; AoW on strategy, mechanics, multiplayer and interesting choices. If you love Extra Large maps and ganging up on AI in multiplayer, maybe AoW isn't for you.

Chill guys, he probably have never played AoW, it is just his opinion how this game looks like to him, and even if he played AoW, he can like whatever he wants.
Also, I agree with you, even though I am fan of Heroes of Might and Magic series, every AoW is better for me in almost every way, the only thing that I like more about heroes it that those games are a bit faster.
And Poly, if you didn't try AoW, you really should give it a try, AoW1 has really old school graphics so it is for hardcore fans, but you can try AoW2, apart from being TBS, it has very little to do with Heroes of Might and Magic.

Nope. "strong poor man's heroes vibe" is quite an "insult" to AoW. Especially because AoW is much closer to Master of Magic than to HoMM. Both AoW and HoMM are TBS and all the similarities ends here. The fact he didnt know this shows that he never played with AoW. And sorry, but on a "silly" person could talk or express his opinion(especially when its false) about something he never played. Btw according to you then i can go to for eg. the heroes 6 topic and say that game has a poor man's world of warcraft vibe because its fantasy and colorful and no one can say "thats bs" or "you have no idea what you are talking about" because i have the right to talk bs whenever/wherever i want?LoL. Im chilled, i didnt insulted him or sent him to a warmer place, just pointed out what he said was bs and its true. And it would be a sad world if i have to apologise when im saying the truth

We can go for hours like this, my point is that he didn't call AoW a "poor man's heroes", he said that he got the feeling like it because he doesn't know anything about it apart from pictures and maybe a bit more, so he didn't really say anything bad about the game because he didn't try it.
There is nothing wrong in expressing how this looks like to him, and even if it looks bad(maybe because he didn't play the game), it is just his opinion, it doesn't have to be wrong or right.
And yes, many of them have said that Heroes 6 looks a lot like Warcraft, when you look at those Vampires that looks really similar to the Arthas or some other things etc. I completely understand them, and why they don't like it, which doesn't stop me from liking it because I find that reasoning quite silly.
The final thing, yes, you can talk whatever you want, even if that thing is completely nuts, and they can flame you all day if they want, that still doesn't change the fact that it is your point of view on those things.

How can you even call AoW "Poor man's HOMM" if AoW surpasses HOMM in many areas ? "Adventure" map is much more active, you can raze structures, permanently or temporarily change terrain, build cities, roads, sneak around, fly with units. Combat has more mechanics that make it thoughtful, such as being able to move an archer a little and shoot, numerous obstacles hampering shooters, good retreat mechanic allowing for multi-turn sieges, now even flanking. Spells (and other abilities) are not random, but researched.
The elephant in the room is that for many people HOMM is not the best strategy, it's the best looking strategy. That's where "Poor man's HOMM" statements come from. The majority of HOMM players I know don't play other strategy games, they have no comparison. Especially girls. The subforum "Other games exist, too" is a good example of this. There are few strategy games discussed in here.

Guys, you are completely missing the point.
I agree with you, AoW for me is better than HOMM, point is, he didn't call AoW "poor man's heroes", he said he has feeling that they are "poor man's heroes", but can't really tell because he didn't play it. There is huge difference between "AoW is poor man's HOMM" and "I got feeling like that they are poor man's HOMM", because in second case, he isn't sure until he tries it, when he tries it, he probably won't be stating that anymore, while in first case, he just think that game in inferior to HOMM.
Here we have second case because AoW3 isn't out yet, and he will try it and probably will change his mind(or not, depends on the person).
He is not the one that is jumping to conclusion here, you guys are, because you are commenting about something he hadn't really said.

Some might didnt see the new dev journal about the music of AoW with few short sample. AoW 1 veterans will recognise many old songs(although now remade/reimagined)like Battle Macabre or March of the Halflings.

Ah, Michiel van den Bos is back. I love his music, opening song in AoW1 together with the battle song from AoW1 named "The Defenders" were my favorite songs, I got chills even today when I hear them. I hope that new stuff will be just as epic!
And I am listening something from that link, it sounds really good.
