Impire
To be released on STEAM on Feb 14, this looks to be in some ways a Dungeon Keeper clone. Here's hoping it turns out to be as great as Dungeon Keeper.

About the Game
Deep in the underworld of Ardania, a threat of the most evil nature grows and multiplies with an appetite for destruction that is unsurpassed. Summoned from the depths of the Bottomless Pit, the (once) mighty Báal-Abaddon has been torn from his throne of skulls and imprisoned in an earthly body of less-than-imposing stature (he's an Imp, OK?) to serve the none-too-competent sorcerer Oscar van Fairweather. But unfortunately for Fairweather, the luck of the damned is on Báal's side and he soon breaks free to build his own dark and majestic... Impire.
Take control the of demon Báal-Abaddon as he attempts to rebuild his mighty hell spawn form. With the aid of dozens of evil creatures big and small as well as an arsenal of spells, you will help him construct a dungeon underworld of limitless evil and nastiness to stop all those pesky Heroes of Ardania from ruining his return to greatness!
Key Features
Incarnate a demon of the abyss; make him evolve into a powerful dungeon lord and customize him through weapon and armor upgrades
Dig your own dungeon, build different room types, and craft wicked traps to stop your enemies
Beat up the heroes who attempt to thwart your plans, or even better, crush their souls and use them as resources to build up your dungeon
Recruit a vast array of creatures, level them up, and upgrade their equipment
Terrorize the surface of Ardania by raiding different locations, collecting treasures and riches along the way
Unlock unique magical item cards and mix and match them to build a deck that suits your playing style
Play the campaign in solo or in coop mode; or confront friends in different multiplayer game modes

Looks good gamewise but sad enough they choose to use cheesy comic graphics/characters. Have to skip it.

This is what I ended up preordering after I canceled Shades of Darkness. It looks interesting and when it was stated that it had mechanics found in Dawn of War, I was sold.

I've been playing Impire since it's release and it's a lot of fun if you are looking for a Dungeon Keeper-esque game. Admittedly, I have never played Dungeon Keeper but it's easy enough to pick up on.
The graphics, gameplay, sound, and script are all very well done and I recommend it for $15-$20.

It looks quite similar (maybe too similar) to Evil Genius and less similar to Dungeon Keeper. The proper successor of the latter will be War for the Overworld.

Just saw this one. Looks a lot like DK imo - As similar as it can get without holding the franchise.

A lot of people have complained about the micromanagement needed, which I do not understand. That's the genre. What do they expect? There is a lot of it but it doesn't hamper the experience for me.

If possible, try a demo first. As I said, I like it. I think it has charm. Unlike a lot of people, I never expected it to be Dungeon Keeper (because I for some bizarre reason, I never played that series).

I have not played it much yet, been playing XCOM. But I like it so far. A patch was released today, by the way, with another one due out by the end of the week according to the developer post on the STEAM boards.
I think the "Aggressiveness is now regained by all units idling, up to 50%" means you won't have to worry as much about telling your creatures to eat unless they've been out on raids.
And if you don't like the ladder system they are working on changing it.

DK II can be found on GOG, but from what I read it's not fully compatible with Windows versions after XP and you may experience occasional (or even frequent) crashes. If you don't draw the short stick though, it may work without a problem for you.
If for some reason you have XP though, there's no excuse not to play it. Atmosphere-wise it's way superior to Impire and actually catches the idea of "dark humour" without trying too hard. And it's hell of a fun of course.

I got DK2 a while back off GOG since I could not find my disk. I had some crashes (Windows 7) but not too bad.

I don't like this change. It seems odd, but I like the idea of lazy creatures losing aggressiveness.
Good gravy. Looking at the people whining in the Steam forums reinforces why I hate reading the Steam forums. Caveat Emptor. If you are too stupid to wait for a demo or read some reviews, then it's your own dumb fault you end up with a game you don't like.

Hivethegamer actually restored my faith in this game ( somewhat ) and he does it in this let's play series - He's been playing a few maps before this one, though
Maybe it's because he aaaalmost knows what he's doing but is still lacking some fundamentals about the game....kinda like me when I started DK 1 without a manual.
@Omega...come on, man, you gotta try Dungeon Keeper at least once
