Seems meta shifted a bit, on 1223 ELO with this deck. What's funny is that it's almost the same deck that I started playing DoC with, minus some Paos, the DAs, and Herald stuff.

Might of nature

Necro abuse¨
Pao abuse
Noting else.
Things like MMDOC.net give people a picture that they just copy and paste, Nobady thiks all just go for "snow this is the best"
Macht Making sucks.. really At 1k 7 pairs with 1,5k+ players.. I dont like that
Epice spells and paos ruin the game for me.. really
The trick with DoC is not the copying of decks, it's choosing cards for a deck that minimise unlucky draws, in other words, well balanced cards that work well with each other (e.g. Sandalphon with water and air spells)...so no matter how lucky or unluckly you are, the deck should pull through anyway....that's the key to DoC.

Meanwhile my Acamas is happily cutting through my opponents I can scarcely believe it but with just 4 goblin hunters and 4 harpies, I have a pretty good beginning most of the time. Goldpiles help of course and this is not the kind of deck where you want multiple low drops anyway. I'd missed the good old fortune rush.

@Dave: Yes, but they are magic. With Wild Spirits, they hit for 4, and I can usually play them way earlier than pearl priestesses. I don't care if they die in 2 turns if it diverts some attention from the weenies.(Who all hit for 3 each by the time Kami(s) arrive(s).

@RMZ1989: now imagine the same game w/o wolf captain.
I've played against the guys that didn't have a single WC(or just didn't draw it), and they would still beat me or give me tough time just because of the Sandalphon, his Spell Schools and his Special ability.
Look, don't get this the wrong way but losing to incomplete decks doesn't prove anything. And spells aren't exclusive to haven.
Btw.: i don't know if Sandal spec is good.
RMZ1989 said: And even if Haven and Necropolis are "defensive" factions, they hit pretty good when Strength of the Sea is up.
I really don't think that haven is a defensive faction. I just don't see any advantages of haven as the game progresses (4+/4+/x/x-cost creatures aren't any good and control options aren't that high).

Nameless Sand is currently a tier 1 deck, ive seen it rush, ive seen it tank - it has great flexibility which comes down to what cards are drawn.
IMHO the strength of any deck depends on if you can adjust your gameplay with initial draw of cards - my rotten flesh allows that felxibility - the deck doesnt play the same over and over again i guess is what i am trying to say.

Pretty much this.
And Nameless, if you don't think that Haven is designed to be defensive when they have a lot of creatures with guard effect, regeneration, healing and overall are pretty tanky, in comparison to the Inferno for example, or sanctuary, then I really don't know what to tell you. :/

Maybe i'll repeat, in bold, what is the reason of my rants:
the reason is:
Haven w/o WCs is UP
giving an OP card to compensate is BS
my previous post was a continuation of this thought
RedEmperor30 said: Nameless Sand is currently a tier 1 deck, ive seen it rush, ive seen it tank - it has great flexibility which comes down to what cards are drawn.
I know, it is flexible but it still relies on WCs and tries to kill the opponent with cheap creatures (might max = 3) and using spells to clear the way and buff creatures. I wouldn't call it a defensive deck but it can play defensively when it needs to.

Yes i'll repeat myself: haven currently is not designed to play defensively.
If i'm wrong - show me a top tier deck that relies on healing and regeneration or just stalling to gain a long-term advantage. I'll even give you a link to top tier decks: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/792606-Decklists-by-Tier .
BTW. notice that there's only a few top haven decks and all of them have 3-4 WCs (my guess is that 3 means that the creator had only 3 not 4 b/c in the entire game there is no better creature costing 2).

You have a warped view on haven because you have only seen haven in the herald meta. Wc is great rush decks but not so much elsewhere, people just prefer rush since it is faster and easier. I have been here from the start and haven was never really lacking, wc simply enabled it to play rush. The original idea came from cucu's Siegfried rush, in early void rising. Back when Sieg's DA were automatically summoned with 3hp Currently Sandalphon is the best haven hero and he is best suited for rush, it would make little sense to play him without wc.
Secondly, tier 1 can be reached without them. Does it matter if this deck would be better with wc or the fact that it can hit tier 1?
http://www.mmdoc.net/show_deck/8697/
Now I do not know if retaliation, imperial guard-tower combo or control haven can reach 1500 these days but I am fairly certain they can stabilize at a pretty good elo. But the real test will be with the new addon when the focus shifts on heavier decks. We'll see then how popular wc remains.

we're having similar discussion on the official forum, so i'll copy part of my other post.
maybe i have a bad image of haven but still this is the current state of haven and what was a couple months ago doesn't count any longer.
-------------
I've seen this deck several times. The author of the deck mentioned in the description of the deck that (and i quote him):
Quote: Why no Wolf Captains? Because I don't have a single one.
meaning that the deck would be better with WCs. Anyway, getting to 1501 elo w/o WCs as haven is impressive but he looks like a very experienced player with many, many T1 decks. (and there are still 13 relics).
I will also quote cpttg from Decklists by Tier thread: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/792606-Decklists-by-Tier
Quote: almost any deck very well build & played can make it to tier1
he's totally right about that.I'm just saying that it doesn't prove that haven is not weaker without WCs b/c WCs are so good that they can improve every haven deck that relies on creatures. And the problem is that other factions do not rely that much on their epics - sometimes you can make a very good deck w/o epics or just one (necro and Atropos or even without atropos: spitters+incorporals+generally strong units and recycling).

The bottomline is more or less that haven does need wc for a rush deck but this is just one aspect of haven. Probably part of the reason that haven players prefer to rush is that their two best heroes have schools that greatly aid them in rushing, not to mention the epic spells. Still, haven has more options even in the current meta and they don't necessarily require a 1500 player to do them justice.

Probably you are right but as far as i know most (every?) haven top decks are currently creature based (Sandal, Cassa).
Anyway, i'd like to share with you sth i just found on the internet:
Quote: Haven is Wolf Captain. Wolf Captain is Haven. It is as simple as that. One of the most amazing creatures in the game. Unfortunately, right now Haven is too dependent on this creature. If you are playing a Weenie Haven deck you will most surely want to have four copies of this guy.

My thoughts exactly, even a little bit exaggerated.
