I've used a lot of the various ambient lights (skydomes) but the problem I'm "guessing" is the "in-game camera limits" or something to that effect. I can see the "horizons of domes" but never the high-sky; it would be great if one of you could figure this out.

Fyi, within the Editor are "editable camera limits" but I know nothing about them and can't investigate right now.

Cheers

To see this sky, you must set camera limit like in thread which link to is in second post of this topic

And I think I know what is the problem - in _(AmbientLight) files there is 'InGameUse' param which shows us the sky as true and not as false

The Lords of War:

Only example, not a teaser

When esvath said the sylvan sky was ugly I didn't bother looking.

I want to have different skies execute in different regions. Like that green fog ambient for use in front a bog.

So, in order the sky to show up, a modder have to edit each map separately? Is it possible to make a mod that will make each map have sky?

Aaand, that's still a tease

Edit:

Markkur, iirc, the problem with water in sylvan town is from switching the sky from false to true, not from expanding the camera limit.

If you have managed to use the sky without causing any bodies of water look bad (or look black), then you can expand your camera limit safely. And please share your work here with the rest of us!

@Esvath - it's one way of it. But the second is to edit not maps but light, and it'll be smaller package and less work I think. Give me two days, I will see what and how

After one hour working I see what is the problem - virtual skies. I will see what can we do with them

Yeah! It's matter of materials with "VIRTUAL_SKY" mode. One hour and mod will be ready

And... Here you are!

If anything doesn't work, post message here, I'll try to solve the problem

REALLY?! O.o

Do you use any other mods?
Is this mod in 'data' folder?

BTW for better fun, extract this archive to 'profiles' folder.

Make backup of the folder if you want to be able to come back to standard settings.

I also see no skies:-/
I can only rotate the camera on different angles + bigger zoom.

The first one MUST be in data because of .pak extension xD

Here you are .h5u version (for UserMODs).

The first one (.pak) should be in 'data' folder and it works with basic, HoF and ToE.

The second one (.h5u) should be in 'UserMODs' folder and it works with ToE only.

Nothing for me to share or I would have in my H5-guide a long time ago. I'm a big user of the ambient files and know them fairly well but I've always used them for ground effect for the most part.

The only thing that I can share about the Skydomes is that inside the Editor the existing files were created by Nival folks trying to set the stage for campaign segments and each one is a combination of various parameters.

As far as water many of the lights that are fantastic for ground are black for water. I don't believe Nival ever solved that problem because all "final" Campaign choices are so similar. It's funny there's only one day-light water that I really like and it's not the one they used it was a test-light and not chosen for use.

On maps, if you've chosen "True" at "Reflective water" it is supposed to reflect the sky textures and does but iirc correctly, the water was reflecting all of my point-lighting even when it was set to False.

<imo> I don't think water is going to be solved as easy as the land and objects because of the texture issue, in much the same way light cannot impact some objects even though it can wash-out others.

I wish I could help more but I've spent nearly all of my time making maps . One thought I can offer but might be a dead-end is with the XYZ of color and the various lighting targets it might be possible to get better effects with water and land together, if a lot of testing is performed.

Fyi, one other thing I noticed about the interior files is, some of them are for Arenas and "might" be named as such; they're easy to spot because when you zoom-out you can see the square under the world.

As I said before, I can see some cool horizons like what's been posted, even Dungeon and Necro have great skies but with the camera's defaults it's not always easy (depending on the map I've made) to even see the horizon, let alone what I would call a high-sky. Maybe you guys can figure this out. Hope so. I'm too ill to mess with it.

Which map is it? And did you try to rotate the camera for 'flatting' the view?
