I think it depends on how excessive it is. The level of surveillance Seraphim promotes is distopian to me.

Seraphim, the problem with surveilance is not only the personal peace and intimacy.

The problem gets bigger when everybody can see your credit card number,IDs and everything, which could be used against you by many legal or illegal means.
I suppose you just don't have the slightest idea what condition the law system had been,is and will be in the future.

Further more, banks will own everything in the future,if the debt trends go on the same way.Banks will surveil you and your every move.

You will be guilty until proven otherwise.

Well, I destroyed my anonymity a long time ago through my HoMM maps, so... what can you do?

I guess if I ever run for President, the news media will have a field day.

As long as forums are moderated (Corribus is the man), anonymity is quite awesome. You can talk without compromising your job. Sometimes your personal opinions don't go hand in hand with your work.

Control is the means to a stable society. In the future, nothing will be without any surveilance and with surveilance, crime, inequality will disappear.

With such surveillance as is going on today liberty disappears. The government continues to prove it can and will abuse its power. The people need a small and unobtrusive power if they wish to keep their freedom.

I think its already happening and its only going to get more apparent.

what are you talking about? it's only in order to protect a minority of very rich people, who of course, will be the only one to not be under any kind of surveillance.

Speaking about politics, the Zimmerman trial that just concluded is a fine example of a political trial. The left-wing media continually insinuated that Zimmerman was guilty and continues to do so after the trial, where Zimmerman was found innocent.

Further, the president says he honors Martin, the man the jury says Zimmerman killed in self-defense, and the NAACP is calling for Zimmerman to be tried on other charges.

Edit:  Obama's words after the verdict.

If the rich get under surveilance and everything gets public about what they own and how they owned it, things would be much more better.

As I said, people should give up their privacy if they want positions of power.
I do not suggest constant surveilance inside homes and so on, but when it comes to work, business, outside activities then yes.
And no, credit card numbers, paswords and so on should remain personal, if possible.

Ulitarianism is flawed but at leaset I believe that the removal of crime and corruption, at least in the goverment, would be at the interest of the many.

Nothing I post at HC is illegal, but I still wouldn't want just anyone to be able to see it and connect it to me. Privacy and anonymity are great things. People value privacy - being watched makes them uncomfortable. It could even be said that civilization itself is a progress of society towards privacy.

Thats true and I agree. I only took the example about internet anonymity in cases where forums are unsupervised and prone to abuse. I too would not want my name to float around the internet and become the target of somebody who would stage an attack or harassment against me.

As for utilitarianism, it's a fundamentally flawed system because there is no objective way of weigI

Thats true, but I think we can all agree that corruption and theft is bad for the most and that it must disappear for a greater good.

Case should never have been brought to trial.  It was 100% race-baiting, and the media continues to feed into it.

At the least Zimmerman has legitimate cause to sue NBC (IMO) for purposely and maliciously editing 911 tapes to make Zimmerman look like a racist.

Giving government more power, like allowing mass surveillance, does nothing but increase corruption.

As for anonymity, I think it's overrated. I have faced no problems debating on politically incorrect forums with my real name while being part of my country's political establishment at the same time. I encourage others to do the same thing in order to thin the gap between politicans and populace.

Your problem is, that you don't get, that being caught at taking money from corp X to do Y for X is WAY more awkward than being watched when having sex or taking recreational drugs in your spare time.

According to who? Totally subjective, I can imagine a lot of people who would prefer to be filmed during they're stealing instead of having sex. Especially if they belong to a rather conservative culture.

I was writing an essay on America's separation of powers, and whether checks and balances hinder government. Before I began I already made up my mind that the answer is "but of course it does", but now after hours and hours of independent study I think I see the glorious intelligence of the founding fathers.

I've actually become more understanding of the two-party system after seeing how you are required to vote for the party line in other systems. There is no individualism.

Not much individualism in a two-party system either. Most of the time, everyone follows the party line.
