Corribus said: It will be interesting to see what happens when the TV series catches up with the books, which it almost certainly will do. What then?
Well, they most probably have the legal rights to make the TV version of the story take its own path. They can not wait for the books since the actors will age, so the only solution seems like having two separate GoT universes that keeps drifting away from each other, becoming less and less identical each passing season. Or maybe they will pay the guy to write faster, (maybe, that's what he's counting on ). Although, if it's some "I want to take things slow and achieve perfection, screw the TV show, what matters is how the books will remain 200 years from now" attitude, I dig and respect that. It's playing for centuries, it's having perspective.

What then? I guess it will be just like the Walking Dead, which drifted away from the comics almost completely. ^^ Twice the enjoyment, I presume.

Thread bump.
The books and the show are about to become mostly separate entities, but no problem for me.
Now for some personal, updated opinions: While I don't agree with the Lannisters completely, I also don't agree with the Starks, or the arson fetishist from across the sea
Ned was perphaps the most moral character didn't know how to play the game, Cat was overzealous, much like her Arryn sister and her Tully relatives, Sansa was naive, and Arya is too much like a horror film antagonist for me.
The Kingslayer won't live much longer in the books even if I like him, I suspect. The Imp is clever and the actor is great. Cersei and Joff in the books were just cruel, and Tywin was a great politician, but Tyrion was his Brutus.
And Robb Stark was a warrior and just that, much like Robert Baratheon. He was stupid to trust the Freys.
Jon, I don't know, I never really liked him, but he was the window to the far North. But I do like the people around him, like Aemon and Sam Tarly.
And to be fair if I were in a position of power I would be the most like Stannis.
And if I had to be in a lesser position, I felt a lot of Theon's frustration or Davos' loyalty or the Tyrells' desire for power. The Martells are kind of weird, and the remaining Greyjoys, I hope Martin will elaborate on them since the show hasn't.
I really feel for Jorah, Petyr is a riot, Varys an extremist and ser Barristan a cool wise man, but I can't exactly relate.
And the Boltons... never go there!
