Top 3 -
Rampart - my favorite creatures, and centaurs are cheap and plentiful, and unicorns and dragons are strong (so are dendroids, but they are slow)
Dungeon - evil eyes are great rangers, and the manicores are just cool (and good attackers)
Tower - magic, genies, magi, and master gremlins are plentiful and good rangers. need i say more?
drop 3 -
Inferno - evil, i hate evil
Fortress - weak, until you get over 100 gnolls and plenty of gorgons and hydras.
Stronghold - weak, and Behemoths aren't very plentiful - they are the only strength. rocs are pretty good as well. but this town isn't needed.
optional -
castle - okay, but except for griffins and angels, pretty boring and plain (crusaders are very strong though!)
necropolis - undead are creepy, but the ghost dragons and dread knights are cool.

Okay, I'm waking up the topic now
So... Well, I can't choose 3-3 towns for every choice, beause for example, in my drop list consist only 2 towns.
Tops:
1. Fortress
The defense is quite important thing. I like that Dragonflyes so fast, Mighty Gorgons's death stare, and how Basilisks's/Greater Basilsks's can change stone. Anyway, I always loved reptiles and swamps, so I like this town's look/atmosphere and the music is just 5*
2. Inferno
Eeeviiill... The demoniac things really attract me. Maybe the Imps are weak, but it is the least thing. The Pit Lord's speciality is good. Arch Devils are quite fast(IMO Arch Devil looks one of the bests).
3. Tower
Cold, freeze, Magi, Gargoyles...It is simply magical! However the building is quite expensive, but worth to cost a lot of money and resource. Titans are very strong altogether Naga Queens.
Optionals:
Necropolis
Really creepy one. The Dread Knights's double damage is simply fantastic, but Bone/Ghost dragons are weak. Wraiths are useful too with mana drain, but Walking Deads are horribly slow and week.
Rampart
Good one. Pegasi and Silver Pegasi are weak, Green/Gold dragons are expensive. However Dwarfs are tenacious, and Grand Elves shoot twice. It is good point. Oh, I forgot Unicorns/War Unicorns.
Dungeon
Great look, great music, great creatures... Especially the good morale of Minotaurs/Minotaur Kings. Hmmm nothing special, just good.
Stronghold
It has got a mood, too. One of my favourite creature is Thinderbird. I like that Cyclops Kings you can use as catapults.
Drops:
Conflux.
I don't like, I don't know, why. Too much tha weak creatures.
Castle.
I don't say, that this town not strong. Very strong. But it is too humanic for me.(However I like knights.) So, very boring, and "too good".

Top:
Fortress, I love their creature lineup and piling up Defense is a real hobby for me. Tazar for president.
Necropolis: The Heroes series' Necropolis is the best representation of Undead in all of fiction as far as I am concerned, they are ghastly and awesome, especially due to the strong members of their lineup: Skellies, proper Vampires (most importantly lords) and the Dread Knights.
Dungeon, for the strongest creature lineup tied with Conflux in the game with 3 fliers, 2 shooters and the baddest unit in the game, Minotaurs.
Drop:
Inferno: It's a great faction and a great kingdom, but surpassed by other factions. I'm not suited to their play stile, give me Heroes V Inferno instead.
Castle: About the same as Inferno, just at the opposite end of the spectrum. Also, Archangels are so strong it's lame and Crossbowmen fall too fast, with all their damage output they're not worth it. Trying to wring charges out of the cavaliers and champions is a pain.
Rampart: You can't break even with this town, you'll either rule or suck. Again, it's still a great faction, but not by Heroes III standards.
That leaves Stronghold, Conflux and Tower as average

I like Easy Games, and dislike challenges, so
Top:
1) Conflux (easy, Imbalanced, broken - I like that )
2) Fortress (Brilliant Town - Just Love it)
3) Castle. (I feel comfortable when playing with them
Drop:
1) Inferno (Bleh!)
2) Necropolis (Blaaah!)
3) Tower (*Yawn*)
Okay:
1) Stronghold. (learned to love it over time - still not good enough for top 3 tho )
2) Rampart (Not particularly fond of them... but they are easy to master)
3) Dungeon. (Okay, I suppose)

Top Three:
Castle - Archangels <3 and zealots. Mageguild is kind of lame though.
Archers are always the target of ranged enemy attackers and spells.....-_-
Dungeon - really strong castle in my opinion. Evil eyes do a lot of damage (shooting or melee). Medusas are pretty solid too. I like that there's two main shooters.
Rampart - Grand Elves and Unicorns. A little weak, and Dendroid Guards are next to useless because they're so bloody slow, but it's just so pretty....
Drop Three:
Necropolis - ew.
Stronghold - I love the thunderbirds, but ogres are too slow for my taste, and the orcs don't do enough damage as a ranged creature. Not too fond of the Behemoths either.
Fortress - Love the mighty gorgons, hate the hydras.
Between:
Tower - pretty decent town.
Inferno - all the higher level creatures are pretty strong. Magogs suck though....need to rely on spells to snipe people off.
Conflux
The Phoenix is so weak as an upgraded lvl. 7 creature. And
all the elementals besides magic elementals are weak.

BETWEEN:

top 3 :
1. inferno. fast high level creatures.
2. dungeon. a really strong line up (except scorpicores) dragons aren't easy to get.
3. Stronghold. Behemoth day 2 lol
drop 3 :
1. conflux. imba. and half of the army are level 4 creatures
2. Castle. not very original. Archangel too strong
3. Rampart. Just not fond of it, though they are strong. green dragons may be even harder to get than red dragons.
average 3 :
1. Necropolis. A mix of very good units, and some unfortunately very bad ones (zombies and dragons)
2. Fortress. Quite good, but lacks speed.
3. Tower. They are very strong, but the titan are too expensive and too slow against most of the top level 7 units.

Top 3:
Elementals, Stronghold, and Dungeon because their heroes offer agood skill balance overall.
Down 3:
Fortress, Inferno, and Castle. The first two because I find their troops, somehow, a bit forgotten by the designers and the third because every time I play with them it is easy to win. The designers paid too much attention to it.

Top three from a long-time lurker
1. Fortress - fun to play and tough. MGs and early wyverns ftw.
2. Necropolis - also fun and the power of the skeletons, vampires and knights more than makes up for the poor 2nd, 3rd and 7th levels, not on all maps though.
3. Inferno - great fun with efreet, pit lords and devils.
Leave at home:
7. Dungeon - Not a great town. With the exception of Shakti, lacks some early turns strength until minotaurs come around.
8. Conflux - it's pretty much cheating. Get Luna and wipe out a pack of hydras day 1 and realise how dumb it is.
9. Tower - too expensive. Their creatures, while solid, have only really got the Naga and Titan that stand out and these aren't that special. The Titan upgrade costs a lot, and while the cloud temple is cheap, giants suffer from a lack of hitpoints. Nagas are good but you need resources that sometimes don't appear in the first week which can be annoying.
