I just hope it does not become another town where you have to change your laptop luminosity settings, like Silaneo or Whitebeard towns.

Not that they are bad, but even for evil towns, I think that the dungeon/inferno towns are a good example of how to mix evil atmosphere with good looking contrasts, sharpened dwellings and immersive lights.

It looks fine to me, but maybe the townscreen is a little too dark. Anyway I changed the contrast a lot of times and I haven't made all buildings, so there won't be a problem to adjust the lightness a little more.

Here's the siege screen. The walls may be a bit too red from blood, what do you think? Anyway that's not the final siege screen, I will do more changes and fix some walls. As for the moat, of course impaled people are a must

absolutely. i like the rogue's positioning. reminds me of that scene from bram stoker's "dracula".

@ dj: rigor mortis can do that to a corpse. it's before the corpse starts rotting, where it becomes limp again.

lol, kinda like this:

The castle on the adventure map doesn't fit perfectly with the rest What should I do to make it look more natural?

Also, should I swap Haiduci and Strigoi levels? I could make them shooters too or spellcasters. Anyway, I will change the Voinici def and make them shooters, it isn't too balanced to let one upgraded unit from the whole town to be the only shooter, I could do this with the Strigoi (Moroi will be melee and Strigoi will be shooter. I'm also thinking about switching the lvl 1 creature and make the Werewolves transform into a wolf while moving, but I'm not sure about this as I don't know what I should put instead: Iele would be too close to sprites, maybe Peasants>Plaiesi? yet not sure

collapse some of the side of it. you have repeating parts to the castle(on the left), just accordion them until them match. that would be the first step.

then increase contrast some, add some sharpness, and post what you have then. you may need to tone down the color afterward, but maybe not.

all that's just to get the castle base up and running. you'll have to tweak it more, naturally, afterward.

remember to save backups before any change. (before accordioning, before contrast+sharpness & color, etc)

edit: don't do any changes to the non-castle part yet(ground base). that'll come later. i'm thinking a blend will work, so that your castle resembles somewhat the townscreen version. but that's later.

Thanks for the tips, Fred. Converting real pictures into the game is a real pain I increased contrast by 35 and sharpened it a little, here's the result comparative to the Castle

Give the original to Fred, he is good at. You modified the base too, I hope you have it as psd file. Base must stay as before.

the contrast is now good, now you need to sharpen more. i'd say 4-8 times with a tool @10% strength(10% strength increments is what i use, when i need to work at less than 100%). and, you still need to cut off some from the left, to better fit your grass hill. but that's really up to you. it's your castle, so do it however you want it, man.

i could also do as sal suggested, but if i'm guessing right, you'd rather do it yourself for the experience? either way, let me know.

and, i'm happy to help. my eyes are used to seeing what i need to do to things now, to get them to fit aesthetically in the game. kinda like how my cousin can see flaws in a painted wall that i can't, because he has painted a lot.

Yeah, it's better to do it by myself so I can learn the process.

Besides, you can't tell I'm not making progress

well, if you're going to keep the length of it horizontally(i wouldn't though, it doesn't match the length of every other castle); then i would say it needs more sharpening, and appropriate shading. remember where the light comes from. you could draw up some geometry draft sketches, line out your castle, and shade where the light wouldn't hit; if you need help finding where the shadows would be. or, you could do what i do, and shade, correct, correct, correct... until it's right.

also, i notice the color isn't fluent for the roof(s). is there a reason the far right spire-cap is missing most of it's color(and some of the rest)? it just looks like, the light is coming from the wrong direction.

take this building, for instance:

the above is the initial building.

i first flipped that building, to make this one(my old version):

but, the shadows were wrong. i knew it, but didn't want to go about changing it, for fear of messing it up(i really didn't have the experience then, either). but when i felt adequately experienced to fix the old mistake, i fixed it by making it look like this(which is still not 100%, to be honest):

which is what you have to do with your castle(not exactly, but you get the idea), to make it match the other objects already in the game, aesthetically.

after you get the sharpening and shading out of the way, then i would suggest darkening it. lose some of the red color. the way the town is now, it doesn't reflect the darker nature of the actual faction. it should resemble more, your townscreen castle, than anything bright and cheery. 2 cents.

edit: i just noticed the similarities between your adventure-map castle, and your townscreen castle. you were able to find the image in different perspectives?

How about now? Resized, sharpened and worked at the shadows.

if you put your castle side-by-side with all the other castles, it would be easier to see. i always use a test map, as a way to compare things. i save it, so that i don't have to keep placing the objects for comparison. that's how i was able to get all my gold resources and artifacts to look the same, even though each one looked different in varying degrees, from the rest, before working on them.

when you place things side-by-side for comparison, it's much easier to tell the differences. from what i can see in your screen, the castle's details still look blurred out. is this an image that doesn't look good when it's at the best sharpness? because i've run into that issue before, and it takes a varying amount of minute work to fix that. most of heroes 3 original graphics are blurred somewhat from perfect sharpness, but yours still looks moreso.

back in the business, how about this?

Just a random idea: How about if my modify the dendroid's roots ability into an impaling ability? I don't think there's a way of adding more spells/abilities, is it? I could use them for vampires
