(I ask here because he appears in Shades )
AFAIK he's still an Angel and not an Undead, simply old enough to have seen the Elder Wars.
He's more a scholar than a priest: he sees Necromancy as an intellectual and philosophical pursuit, not a dogma.
There is this great line in Shades of Darkness that says something along the line of "Belketh founded us as an order, but it was the Mother Namtaru that made us into a cult." While Belketh respects the Mother Namtaru (she is an Avatar of Asha's "Death" aspect, after all), he's not too happy with the zealous turn the Necromancers have taken. The early Necromancers were revering Asha (and so does Belketh), but in a more informal way, not as an organized religion.
In a way Sandro is Belketh's best student. He's the only one who had the guts (well, for a skeleton ) to think by himself and look beyond the dogmas and the boundaries of Ashan. Belketh respects that, and that's why he refuses to destroy Sandro himself. He cannot blame him for rejecting the dogmas and finding his own truth, even if that could mean the destruction of the world.

I was reading that Sandro's spirit apparently survived his confrontation with Cyrus and still haunts some tower somewhere. Is this true? When was it mentioned. Could this mean this isn't over even in post heroes 5 timeline?
If I remember correctly, it was mentioned in the biography of Lorekeep in Heroes 5.
Yes. Lorekeep's biography in H5 states that Sandro's spirit still haunts the ruins of the city. My theory is that Markal was collecting the artifacts stolen by the Wizards in H5 because they were Sandro's own possessions (as made clear by Danse Macabre, hopefully ) It's possible that, beyond his vengeance against Cyrus and the Silver Cities, Markal intended to us these objects to ultimately resurrect his master.

Didn't Markal use those artifacts (ring of unrepentant, cloak of shadows - the necro artifact set from H5) to ressurect Nicolai? (not Sandro)

The fact that he did one thing and planned to do something similar do not exclude each other.

Hmm, could we read this as a hint for a (great) storyline in Might & Magic: Heroes 7? Just curious if there is already some thought or conceptual design being done for the next game in the series .

That might depend on when H7 would be set. I have a feeling that there is a lot more to the void cycle but then again nobody expected the era change in H6.

Indeed. And he might have learned from Sandro the value of rehearsals

Does Belketh have any relation to the archdemon K-Beleth? Were the same letters used on purpose?

No relation. Belketh was around since the Elder Wars...
Kha-beleth rose to power after 564 YSD with the "disappearance" of the 6 demon overlords.

I must say that final battle in Shades against Sandro's virus is hectic! Shades did end off on a note as if there was going to be another expansion with Sandro still wanting to destroy Ashan...

Even for $5, I'd have to be really desperate to pick it up.
Actually, the Necro campaign by itself is worth the $5, in my opinion. It's really good.
Speaking of 5$, the expansion IS 5$ today on ubishop.

I didn't follow the story attentively, but something odd stood out... it was Anastasia and the necro campaign hero and they talk as if they knew each other for long and bla bla bla... But wasnt Anastasia turned undead not so long ago?

Shades happens a while after the events of vanilla H6, not right after.
Chronologically, what always bugged me was more the aunt being a super ancient necromancer but somehow still her aunt, which would mean that it's not her real aunt, which then raises the question of why Slava presented a corpse to his children and told them it was their aunt.

That is because she, Sveltana, is not that ancient. She may not be the children's aunt, but she is their great-aunt. Sveltana was the sister of Slava's father, making her Slava's aunt.
Something I can sympathise with, as I never called my great-uncles and great-aunts that, but uncles and aunts.

Shades is 100 years after the original campaign. She was in a relatioship with Vein some 20 years before shades.

lol you were probably too distracted by the music to pay much attention. Not all demons are human, just succubi/incubi.
You're also oversimplifying what happens to demons when they die. You know, that's what happens in Ashan too, with their whole cycle of life thing. In Urgash, it's just a lot faster. And it works so well with them too. You accumulate power as you grow older, but when you die you go back to 0.
As for the rest... they remixed a lot of old songs, yes, not just Dark Messiah. There's nothing particularly good or bad about it though, at least if it's good music.
