Bloodmoon Rising (OoC)

The old folk are saying that when a crimson red moon rises, turmoil and destruction begin ravage the land... And what was believed to be a mere superstition, has become true. On a dawn of a new millennium in Aronna it seems as near all hells would break loose. And despite the vast industrialization and an age of invention and exploration, the five kingdoms of the land are drowned in conflict one way or another.

Once Czar of Maskolvia abolished serfdom in his realm, all it was a stray bullet from a war hungry generals flintlock that made the once peasants take up arms against the Czar's armies. The nobility of Maskolvia was divided amongst the military and the rebel supporters, although all of them gifted the lands they owned to their former peasants. Now, Maskolvia's military, under the command of general Olskjov, mockingly nicknamed The Hanger is wasting the military strenght against the uprising he himself orchestrated.

The kingdoms of Araraq and Dernhoolm being in feud since ages past, declared a full scale war on one another, and the kingdom of Dernhoolm with it's inferior miliatry was nearly crushed in the few battles there was by the muskets and cannons of Araraq. Dernhoolmian knights and men-at-arms were no match for the disciplined Araraqi greycoats, and were nearly destroyed. However, Araraqi forces withdrawn leaving Dernhoolm without any heirs and the kingdom itself to die a slow and painful death, while their conservative king, gone mad from the loss of his sons and daughters leads his realm into destruction, as he plans to mount one last assault on Araraq.

On the east, the small peninsula and island nation of Kithay are facing another problem. the dead have begun rising from their graves, amasing under the banners of long dead Kithayian king-tyrant Amasos the Great, who seeks not only to destroy the current dinasty of Kithayian rulers, but to conquer the rest of Aronna as well. currently the Kithay are holding on, defending against hordes of undead every night, but they go weary, as their foe ranks are bolstered with every man the defenders lose.

Down south, the exotic realm Yssia, ruled by the wise and kind Sultan Raheed was devastated by the rogue mages that defected from the city-college of Tullah, who had killed the arch mage and desolated the mage city itself as well as the kingdom in the south. After the destruction of Yssia the rogue mages had gone into hiding, summoning their vile demons to do their bidding. mysterious murders have been reported in every major city in the kingdoms. The mages' intents are unknown as of now.

The Brotherhood, a society of men and women of skill and character are battling desperaltely against these threats. The single purpose of the existance of the Brotherhood is to maintain the balance of power in the realm. Although they have managed to do it so far, but this dawn of a new age is something different altogether. This is their toughest challenge yet. They suspect that there is something more to this than eventually meets the eye. In other words, this is no ordinary conflict.

So here's a little backstory to this kinda steampunky RP, or what’s going on in the past few years before the game starts.
The humans have five kingdoms, in which every kind of race is welcomed and are the largest sources of power. Other races have their independent realms.
Maskolvia: the largest of the five kingdoms by land size as well as most populated, occupies the northern part of the continent of Aronna. last one to abolish serfdom and industrialize. Capital city- Ivangrad
Araraq: The second kingdom to industrialize, and the most modern one. military power is only second to Maskolvia, and only because the northmen outnumber them ten to one. Capital city- Lordport
Dernhoolm: The kingdom that has never accepted industrialization, although, they do wield simple arquebuses and such when it comes to firearms. it's a late medieval type kingdom. the weakest one of them all, nearly dying. almost annexed by Araraq. Capital city- Drakeswing
Kithay is an oriental kingdom. their inverntors invented a lot of interesting gunpowder using contraptions, but their drawback is taht they are somewhat unreliable. also the kingdom is known to use a substance called Dragon Fire(similiar to RL greek fire in all aspects) Capital city- Ishrrai
Yssia: a middle east style kingdom, now destroyed. It was in Yssia that the dwarves shared their well guarded secret of steampower, beginning the industrialization of the land. The lands that once belonged to Yssia are now barren and unhospitabble. The survivors are emerging everywhere in the remaining realms. Capital city- Ismarkand(now destroyed)

Orcs are mostly nomad, wandering the plains of central Arrona along with their herds. They have one city, Kree, which serves as a neutral ground for settling conflicts between the chieftains, and the site of their sages.
Elves and Dwarves do not have such complex kingdoms on land. Dwarven clans live beneath the mountain ranges  and are not united under a single government, but a sort of union (Like RL European union)
Elven cities are more like independent city states, found in few of the largest and oldest groves in the land. So far only one elven city, Quintanna is welcoming travelers.
Mage cities are: Vendigr, Tullah(sacked and destroyed) and Ashiir. These are also independent city states, and also the studying grounds for all the novice mages in the realm.


Technology level is that of the begining of late 18th century or so. you have steam engines in the industries, there are people who prototype the first trains and airships as well as cars and other means of transportation. Flintlock and wheel lock guns as well as swords are still the main form of weaponry.
Magic, the art of harnessing arcane energies that  lie in air, earth, water, fire and basically everywhere is used, although fading slowly, allowing technology to take over . Those who want to take up to master the arcane arts were sent to one of three city-golleges of the mages.
Aronna is a single large continent surrounded by several archipelagos of small to medium isles in east and west, and a large island in the south. There are more continents, however they’re undiscovered as of yet.
The races of Aronna you may play as are:

Humans:  The five kingdoms were built on the sweat and blood of early humans, they are the most populous race in the land. They can learn and adapt quickly to any new skill.
Orcs: the primary labor source in the large factories and any other crafts, the Orcs that left their tribes in search for a better life and coin ended up toiling in the factories. They are strong and hardy people, since industrialization their life in the cities became much more easier. They are stronger than an average human and can wield a bigger mellee weapons with more ease. Most of them are NOT brutish and stupid beyond imagining. Half-orcs  share a portion of their orcish strength as well as human wits. orc born half-orcs appear more orcish than human.
Dwarves:  Stout and bearded as you would imagine. While most of the dwarves live in their halls deep beneath the mountains ,but  the ones that live in the kingdoms are most renowned inventors, engineers and factory supervisors. Dwarves are known with their skill in firearms and crafting.
Elves: Tall, mysterious and handsome,  Elves are not fond of technology, preferring the old ways. Elven mages are revered for their skill in the art and are known to use it to do great things. Elven tree-cities are an example of such feats. Half-elves share a natural talent for magic, though not as great.
Canians: A race of cunning, intelligent beastmen, who resemble wolves and foxes. As adept to magic as they are, they are also able to adapt to use technology as well.
Other races living in Aronna are: Ogres(big, with child like intelligence, used as guards or to carry heavy loads) Goblin ilk(vermin of all kind) and Halflings(Farmers and innkeepers mostly).

The goal of the game is working alongside The Brotherhood (Not necessary to be a member) To find out who’s behind the mess and sort it out once and for all. Mostly freeform, but must not forget the goal. Character sheet as of standart.

Nah. just pulling your leg. Let's try poking this up a bit. What say you of this char:

Name: Skalf Varigsson
Race: Dwarf
Appearance: Like this.
Age: 230 estimated
Biography: Little is known about Skalf Varigsson's early years or even if his name is true. He swears it is though. Tracable records of him began a good 50 years back when Varigsson ran a gunsmithy in a middling neighbourhood of Lordport where he made a name as a good weaponsmith, a reasonable engineer and an excelent shot. It is suspected that this gunsmithy was a front for something else as it was later closed down on trumped-up charges. Presumed to have served a prison sentence, Varigsson disappears from records for a decade or so. After that Varigsson is assumed to have fallen into the criminal underworld as a hitman for hire. Sniper par excellence, Varigsson specialises in killing high-profile persons and is suspected in multiple gunrelated assassinations. Varigsson has since his reappearance as a hitman never been caught.
Personality: To clients Varigsson appears the model hitman. Little to no noticable moral misgivings, a can-do attitude and a high succes rate. But he is also withdrawn and suspicious. It is said that Varigsson has never shown his true face to a client, only his signature mask.

My characters:


Name: Zayl of Bogarsburgh, called The Raven of Maskolvia
Race: Human male
Age: 35
Appearance: like this
Background: A son of a wealthy free farmer of Maskolvia(Zayl's grandfather was able to buy his family out of serfdom once he married a wealthy merchant's daughter and inherited all of his father in law wealth) Zayl showed a talent with herbs and potions, so he was apprenticed to the towns healer. However, on his 15th birthday Zayl was sent to Vendigr to study further in those arts. At the mage city, Zayl focused not only on healing remedies, but on deadly poisons and combat magic as well. Soon enough he'd started experimenting and crafting his own varieties of poisons in secret, which have turned out more potent than any of the mages had created before. Ten years have passed as Zayl studied in Vendigr, and for his feats, and quick mind he was granted the title of Master in Alchemy. Yet, a jealous rival of his, launched himself into the ceremony, and splashed a sort of acid into Zayls face. Zayl suffered grievous wounds, and lost his left eye. The Artificiers had crafted a vision crystal and embedded it into Zayls empty eye socket. however, the burns did too much damage for any healerto undo, and even Zayl with all his skill was left scarred for life.
After this unfortunate event, he left the mage city, and went back home. At a stop in Lordport, he met a dwarven craftsman, who fashioned him a beaked mask. It was a special thing too, as Zayl could now eat and drink without removing it at all. The dwarf also crafted his concealable dart launcher as well. It was fitted onto a simple bracer.
A little adventure afterwards is what got Zayl into the Brotherhood. The orcish factory laborers got on strike demanding better working conditions, and when the protesters moved to the city hall to speak of their demands, they were met by a dozen of Araraqi Greycoats armed in repeating muskets, who were afraid of a violent outburst. Zayl was present there as well, just passing by the square towards the docks, to board a ship to Maskolvia. He saw two suspicious men, armed with pistols, trying to sneak past unto the rooftops and ingnite a riot. Zayl followed them, and managed to take them both out using poisoned darts. This little act, prevented an outbreak of violence in Lordport which at the time was suffering from various worker strikes. Zayl shortly was contacted by a member of the Brotherhood at his home, and was offered to join. Without much hesitation, Zayl accepted, and has been working for the Brotherhood ever since.
He still drops by to Vendigr from time to time to give lectures.
Personality: A calm man. Never flipped even when someone is yelling straight at his face. Uses sarcasm a lot, which drives his adversaries more angry, making them easier to defeat at verbal battles.




Name: Skarrghus of clan Silvermane, called Skar by his friends
Race:Canian male
Age: 37
Appearance: Like this
Background: Skarrghus was to be a heir to his father, the chieftain of the Silvermanes, a clan of Canians living on the border of Maskolvia and Araraq. However, after his father took a new wife, and she through her schemes got Skarrghus exiled, he was left with nothing. After working a few odd jobs ,and even leading a band of outlaws, Skarrghus ended up serving as a captain of the guard for a wealthy maskolvian merchant. But the job, even it was well payed , didn't statisfied the young Canian. at one point he encountered Zayl, who was on an assignment for the Brotherhood and had helped the human to complete it. The two had been adventuring ever since, and now they don't see how they could work separately, as they often back each other up.
Personality: Skar is more of a doer than a talker. He is skilled with both swords and firearms, and has taken a little bit of study of Zayl's techniques, although prefers more combat based magic than alchemy.

I am interested in this but I am not sure I can find the time to participate properly. Will be following regardless.

How advanced could experimental prototype technology be?
Say I wanted to have a revolver would that be okay?
How about a motorcycle?
Does steam technology mean we have trains?
Oh, how do people get from place to place normally? Horses? Fantasy beasts?

I was thinking of playing a guy who just hangs around different places, travelling here and there. Does it matter if I'm a man or a woman? Are they equal in society?

1. The people are making blimps, first airplanes and other stuff. something with an internal combustion engine would be the top of the line, but oil or the black blood of earth as it's called isn't refined. Those experimenting use other flammable liquids, like distilled spirits and cooking oil.
2. If it's an analogue of the first real world revolvers.
3. Depends on what it's running on.
4. Railways are only being built, there are no functional ones as of yet.
5. Horses, and horse drawn carriages are still a common means of transport.
6. Elves are not really fond of halfbreeds 'cause their a bunch of elitist purist basterd treehuggers, but otherwise there's little discrimination and racism.

Name: Fraige(subject to change)
Race: Half-elf
Gender: ambiguous
Age: 134 (I'm assuming that's suitable for a young half-elf, comparable to 17-18 year old human, if not, please advise)
Background: Grew up as an apprentice to an old dwarven smith in Araraq as humans are not long-lived enough raise half-elves to adulthood. No knowledge of elven parentage. Mother was a barmaid in Dernhoolm but has long since died. Left to travel 25 years ago after the master died.
Description: Dressed in riding boots, Brown traveling leathers, driving goggles and a fur cap. Slightly below average height of a human, slim, green eyes, brown neck-length hair, no facial hair, pointed ears(mostly hidden in the hat), handsome/pretty face due to elven blood
Handy with technology but more practical than visionary.
Natural affinity for magic as a half-elf but no real training in it. As such has minor magical abilities(mage light, etc.) but is no mage. Has the gut feeling for what substances might fit together in alchemy due to this. Prefers to create the fuel(methanol) for the motorcycle and makes the explosives for the guns.
Decent marksman and decent in hand-to-hand, real combat strength lies in the revolvers for close combat.
Personality: Quiet, preferring to let the others do the talking, enjoys company but is a loner by nature, avoids crowds, tries to avoid attention, though is not always very successful at it, has a tendency to get into tavern-fights but also an aptitude to get out of them unscathed

Equipment:
- Plenty of knives to go around
- Dernholmian smallaxe for up, close and personal
- Two revolvers, 8-chamber, single-action, partial disassembly required for loading, effective range 50 yards, can fire in rain, does not work underwater and needs service after submerging, on holders on thighs for easy access during driving
- Rimmed flintlock rifle, capable of great accuracy but slower to load than regular flintlocks, also runs the risk of fouling the barrel if not cleaned regularly between shots, holstered to the motorcycle
- Methanol powered dual wheeled velocilator aka, spirits motorcycle, optimally runs on methanol but can be run of any minimum proof 60 alcohol. This will lead to loss of power relative to the impurity of the fuel and is detrimental to the longevity of the engine, requiring service and lean burn to clean the engine of impurities to restore optimal running condition.
Capable of reaching 60mph under optimal conditions, however, quality of the suspension and tires limit the speed to half of that on normal roads, even less off them.
For looks, think of the very early WW1 triumphs, just add saddlebags.
