Guns guns guns...
since we have more or less gun talk in random thoughts thread, so why not make it separate one?
basically all the crap related to firearms, models you like, things you fired when you were a basic grunt, guns you own, purchasing tips and so on.
My expirience with firearms is simple at best. I was never thought how to clean or disassemble the bugger. all my knowledge of them comes from books, documentaries and video games(lol), rather than real life expirience.
Army rejected me for failing a stupid psychology test. yea right. those old farts sitting at the top snow their snowing pants when they see a child of a specnaz operative. Some of my friends have the same snowing problem. But then again the Army doesn't need motivated people, only slackers. besides, after what I've learned I'd rather would not wish to blow off my face with a scrapped gun.
Actual guns I fired were simple air and bb guns, a makarov pistol and a double barreled shotgun. also airsoft guns. A snowing expensive hobby.
I never considered to buy a gun for self defence. Where I live it's not really needed. a can of pepperspray, a knife or a baton is more useful to me. besides, getting a permit for one is a pain in the ass.
What I did considered is to buy a bb pistol for sport. like shooting up cans or bottles, just for the snow of it. found a few models I like, now all I need is some cash

I have a bolt action Savage Axis rifle, 270 Winchester, synthetic stock + mounted Nikon scope. And then I have a flintlock rifle, wooden stock.

nice trap you have set, kip.
yeah.... i have one gun. just one. and, it's a cap gun.
no, i sold all of my guns to pay for strippers. that's it. hermaphrodite strippers with at least one wooden leg. i'm very selective.
no, i've already said, damnit. i have an ar, an ak, and my concealed carry. did i ever mention anything else? i don't think so. and, i'm selling those as soon as possible, to pay for my habit. habitat. my habitat for my pet owl. it's on a leash. keep your lapdogs and your children away from the fence! this ****er is trained to attack!
man, this thread is spookin' me. time to move.

Sure, why not.
Don't have any guns atm.
Shot way too many to count but a couple of the more interesting ones:
PKM
A modernised version of the old russian light-machine gun. Uses a relatively heavy 7,62 russian. Pretty slow firing rate of around 700(MG3 is 1200 or so) rounds per minute. It makes up for it in accuracy, you can shoot to 300 meters with open sights and a bullseye is only dependant on your skills. Then there's the recoil. Or should I say, the lack of it. There's no recoil. There simply isn't. You could give it to a 5-year old and they'd have no problem shooting it. It's pretty light too, around 7 kilos or so. It's an amazing piece of brilliant engineering. You can literally press the trigger and watch all the rounds fly just where you want them, there's no noticeable deviation even in sustained fire. You can just sweep a target a mile away no problem. All this with a quickshift barrel. Simply brilliant.
Of course it's too accurate for close ranges. It's no good for raining a squad at 100-200 meters with just a burst, you need a sweep. But you don't care because it's making sweet, sweet love to you while doing so.

Yeah, the flintlock is fully functioning and used in muzzleloader season.
It's basically a moderately more difficult version of a rifle. Of course it uses loose gunpowder + a ball. It will lose accuracy more rapidly over longer distances and you've more-or-less got one shot with it. By the time you wipe the barrel, pour the gunpowder in, push the ball in with your ramming rod, and reload your action, the deer is on the other side of the mountain You want to shoot within 100 meters.

I personally thought that they use the flintlocks only on reenactments, there are more modern muzzleloaders as far as I know. But then again, it does give you a different expirience in the field.
most hunters here use simple bolt acrion rifles and shotguns. Never saw one using a muzzleloader.

two more came to mind. i fired these off a naval ship(on a cruise, early teens):
.50 cal machine gun
20mm anti-aircraft gun
out of everything i've ever live-fired, i would have to say the .50 cal was the most fun. like, crazy fun. it was a real shame i had nothing to shoot at but the ocean. neat though, watching the rounds arc out to sea, then ricochet off the water surface and up into the sky.
i wish we at least would've had a dingy to shoot at. i remember wanting to invade a coastal town and decimate sea-side buildings after pulling the trigger on that bad boy. the 20mm, we had to wear a flak vest in order to shoot. i think that detracted from how fun that one was. plus, we only got to fire one round off with it. i wanted to chug-chug-chug that ****er until it was bone dry, believe me.
another i forgot was the m249 saw in basic. couldn't beat the .50, no way.

Was it on a decommissioned vessel or an actual newer one?

Depends, if it's just iron bullets, not too bad but if you have armor-piercing-incendiaries then hell yes.

thread revival.
i'm having trouble deciding on a something, and since this is the only forum i frequent, i figure i'd ask here, no matter how much this isn't the correct forum for it.
anyone here know anything about pistols? specifically of the .45 acp variety?
