I'm not gun fanatic myself but I have used Pistol, Shotgun, Machinegun, Bazooka, Rifle and Assault Rifle when served as MP in army. (Not sure of the correct names)
I like swordfights, axes and bows, anything modern disgust me. Firearms it would be Colt, Revolver, Winchester and two barrel Shotguns, Wild west style.
Same goes for machinery aswell. I like catapults, pirate ships, horse riders and wagons. Don't like missiles, battleships or tanks. Pretty self explanatory, don't like modern warfare.

fred79 said: anyone here know anything about pistols? specifically of the .45 acp variety?
Hmm, is that 45 cal?
If it is large caliber I'll just say I had this experience. I had a Glock 17 (9mm)years back and thought it the cat's meow but after getting it I found I did not like my "iffy accuracy". Bought the best ammo, no difference.
Friend of mine had a Mag-44 (long barrel-old west style)and let me borrow it. I took it out and hit everything I aimed at in quick fashion, never missing once. Sometimes simplicity is hard to beat.
But what do you need a handgun for?
I gave my 43 Mauser (my deer rifle) to my son and now only have a shotgun. The weapon is in the attic the ammo in the garage (I never trusted kids)but my Bow is near to hand. <LOL>

Thanks Kip. I was right about the 45 but an Auto-pistol?
I'd rather have Mr. Browning's other gun...the BAR.<L>
I say that and yet am annoyed that because I watch World of Warships vids when drinking coffee in the morning I get pop=ups for auto-whatever. I'm for gun-ownership but not much for civilians buying better stuff than local law enforcement carry.

I personally opt for something like the FN Five-Seven for home defense. But then again, gun ownership and the right to defend yourself and your property is only reserved for the jewshooting nomenclature and millionaires who made their money with private "banks". also "hunters" who use a shotgun for hunting foxes.
Usually I'd opt for the good 'ol 12 gauge, but after a while, something like a 5.7mm cartridge makes more sense, since the spread of it is easier to control, and hey it was designed for personal defense. And I'm prone to do insane amounts of collateral damage, which doesn't necessary implies using a firearm. I'd be one of those dudes who empties a whole mag at you, and then pistol whips the absolut bleeping crap out of you too.
If I lived in the united states I'd be a gun totting redneck. because freedom and crap.

I don't much care for weapons made for killing animals or humans, I much prefer the idea of a 'gun' and ammunition firing something like a 30mm depleted uranium round, of course in modern warfare such weapons would be used on Battleships or helicopters, but I prefer a handheld cannon firing these beauties. Fk killin humans or being some a hole with an elephant gun type big game hunting, I want a rifle/cannon that tears your armoured vehicles to shreds, I want my target to not exist after I pull the trigger.

But... But...
Two .45s are way better than one!
I guess it kinda depends on the condition of the firearms, and the maker as well, since there's a billion 1911 clones out there(I presume this is the pistol you own Fred), and some are better quality than others.
Going to the local gun store and consulting the clerk might help.

the .45's are both great quality. they're two different designs; i went with the more user-friendly type. 1911's are needlessly complicated and inferior in parts resiliency, than what comes out now.

Like I said, yur best bet would be to consult a local gun store.
Even here in Lithuania we have passionate firearms enthusiasts working the gun shops, and since you live in Yankeestan(you have to suck it up untill you actually elect people that are capable of doing something to the crapload of domestic issues you face), that shouldn't be a problem to get some decent information.

push for decreasing the pain involved in purchasing a silencer
whoever wrote this article is a dumbass. "silencers don't stop a firearm from being loud, because a silencer doesn't prevent a bullet from breaking the sound barrier"...
that's because you have to use subsonic ammo with it, you dumb snow.
how are dipsnows like these employed, and i'm not? it's not just this article, but many articles on that website are utterly retarded, or are horribly edited. snowing incompetents.

I've "seen" silencers since the days of M.I. and Man from Uncle and have always wondered if fired guns actually sounded like Fffft! I know for a fact in every swashbuckler from way-back to the LotRs a metallic sound "was added" for drawing swords out of sheaths.<S>
