I'm sorry I'm having a blonde moment....I didn't realize I had to extract the file from MMArchive first for it to appear in the window to be edited by Text editor.
Thank you!!

Hey, everyone. I'm looking for some reference regarding editing spells (schools, damage, levels), which I have seen done (namely here: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroes3/comments/a8vksf/hota_magic_and_skills_balance_mod/), but cannot find any information on doing myself.
Would appreciate it if anyone could help point me in the right direction.

Hi BTB, you can edit spells on SPTRAITS.txt
Extract it with MMArchive from H3bitmap.lod

Wow, that was... much easier than I was expecting. Should have figured the architecture was similar to MM 6-8, but the names of the archives were misleading.
This looks like it will let me change most of what I'm after, though MMArchive is giving me an access violation error whenever I try to hit edit (possibly due to the installation of HD+? I doubt it), so I'm gonna have to figure out how to inject these changes when I'm done.
There's a few other things I've seen done that I assume require hex editing... the actual bonuses of artifacts and the effects of secondary skills (i.e. I see another mod here that ups the effects of Mysticism, which I'd like to do).

Yes with SPTRAITS you'll be able to edit what you want. You have to insert the .txt again with the program "lodedit" (if you don't know how to use it, ask me for a brief explanation).
Secondary skills is easy aswell, go to the "how to edit hota" thread and read the first pages, then the last pages were i ask a few things and it may help you.

All right, I'll have a look at LODEdit... I imagine it'll be fairly straightforward, though.
The Mysticism edit was SLIGHTY confusing just because of what comes right after it in the code. The Mysticism "range" is
01 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 04 00 00 00
Which is immediately followed by Scouting:
05 00 00 00 06 00 00 00 07 00 00 00 08 00 00 00
So, I thought I was looking at the wrong offset at first. But it looks like all I need to do is change the Mysticism range to:
01 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 07 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00
And I should be good to go! I'm assuming artifact edits will be equally easy provided I can find the offset?
Another question... what about REMOVING spells, artifacts, or secondary skills? I kinda wanted to put a handful of the useless spells and skills like Eagle Eye into the trash, and I can think of a few ways to go about it, but I want to know what the most "elegant" way would be (i.e. I can make heroes simply unable to randomly get Eagle Eye on a level up, but it'd still show up in Witch Huts).

It has a little trick
You have to create a .txt file inside the lodedit folder an inside you write, for example, "@SPTRAITS" and save. Then double click on REPLACE and then double click on LODEDT.
EDIT:
I forgot, you gotta put the h3bitmap.lod inside the folder aswell

Ok, yeah, that's probably not something I'd have figured out on my own...
(EDIT: nvm - found it. That thread is very helpful. Long, but helpful.)
Only question I think I have left at the moment is the best way to go about removing things in a way that fully removes them.

Editing default team-setting
Hi guys.
Is it possible to edit the default team-settings when creating random maps?
My friend and I play a lot, and it would be really nice if we could tell the game which settings we prefer

Hello, I'd like to ask the specifics of how to swap one Creature from say, one Mod to another. Or swap Creatures between Towns.
I can't say I'm entirely new to Modding since I've managed to swap a few Models and Sound Files around, so I can't imagine swapping whole Creature Files to be all that difficult, I just can't seem to do so without having the entire Game crash on me. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Looking to add new spells
Hello, so I see how to alter the stats of spells that are already present in the game, but how would I go about adding new spells? I want to buff up the fire and water schools without nerfing earth or air.
Thanks

HotA
VCMI
ERA
I have two "No" one "Yes" and one "Maybe" for you depending on your answer

I think in ERA it is a "maybe" because in wog sptraits.txt there are new spell slots called simply "wog spell", editing that, with special scripts and plugins I don't see why it will be impossible. Not everything is hardcoded like BTB does

Help needed
Hi all,
I too wish to learn modding. Although this all sounds a bit confusing to me at the start, I bet I can learn it.
I was aiming to create some custome (new) heroes to use in game, with their unique specialities (We are talking about H3 Complete). Would it be possible?

Hello,
To create a comletely new speciality, there isn't many ways.
- With "hex editing" heroes' spec' you can add hero with speciality are not in the normal game (lets say speciality troll) but not "create" a new speciality from nowhere in code. Here you probably have to add a plugin.
- With VCMI it might be quite easy.
- With ERA also, something you can do.
But asking "is it possible to create new hero spec" I think nobody can answer how to do if you can't be more clear about objectives...
Hope it helped, hf in modding.
