Hello FuzzyLogic
this has been puzzling me too. I would like to create a new hero (so, to be exact, a completely new hero) with spec such as example: just like Xeron has, but for Angels (+5Atk/Def and +2 Speed) just an example.
Or that Zealots can also be spellcasters random benefit from the following spells (at expert level), either: Bless, Haste, Myrth, Furtune or Prayer. (somewhat enchater like).
And making a new Relic (combo) artifact, just like there's an Angellic Alliance, I would like to make Lucifers Regalia, with it's own special perks.
And that the max number of neutral creatures on the map (their stack) can grow beyond 4k. Just for more of a challenge.
Is this feasible?

You can't go VCMI nor ERA ? Not understanding here why...
Well so imagine you just hex edit and use tools to change things in txt files then edit "standard game".
In "how to edit HotA" or the thread "H3 hacking reference guide" you have many datas to do what you want...
But not all ! As I told, create new mechanics are not programmed can't really be done by this way...
For example, you can edit specialities and place your +5 attack and +5 defense for a creature specialist. Find the hero in data, eventually change the creature must be affected and stats as you wish for attack and defense "fixed bonus". But we don't know where the +1 (you want to change to +2) speed is stored. So you can't change that in hex editing for now.
If you changed the specialist, you'll have 1) to change description 2) change icon ! Its long.
Other complecate speciatities who don't exist in game can't be made in hex editing if you're not a very very good hex editor or if you make plugins. Your idea to make mass spellcaster for monk (even if I disagree to make him that strong) can't be done if you don't "steal it" from other spellcaster. You can find where are stored the datas about spellcaster, change whitch unit have it and change spells (search in threads pointed for that). It can be done but its hard and then other "spellcasters" won't be able to do it.
Eventually, you can "steal" the spellcasting of one elementals and change the spells to give "one spell" to other creature BUT, as far as I remember, units spellcasters begin with archangel and finish with faerie dragon ? So you can't give spellcasting to any unit in game are "before" archangel and "after" faerie dragon...
Not that easy so by this way.
Maybe you should try VCMI or ERA ?

It is as FuzzyLogic writes, the more you drift away from standard H3 mechanics the harder or maybe even impossible it will become to do it in H3 SoD or HotA.
But that's exactly why VCMI and ERA were made, to customize your game. I can only speak for ERA here because I have little knowledge of VCMI.
To start with ERA I recommend visiting
http://heroes3wog.net/how-to-install-heroes-3-era-gaming-build/
you will find an installation guide and a lot of modifications. This should also solve your "ERA-starting" problem.
If you wanna try with VCMI, you will also find a lot of information in this forum.
I have already written an ERA-mod that lets neutral stacks grow over 4000 on the map and I have customized many hero specialties. If you are interested I can link you to that for inspiration. If you want to try your own ERM variant it should be noted that you will not archive that within a few days, it takes some time and work, but the result is worth it imo.

Is it possible to modify the CRBanks.txt to make the Creature Banks more of a challenge? for example Dwarven treasury: fight more dwarves or Battle Dwarves and get more resources/gold.
And.... how to implement it into H3 Complete?

You can change some values in crbanks.txt using trial and error method to see results. If you don't use hota, only SoD/Complete such modified txt file you must put in Data folder, that's all.

And griffin bank needs modding 1,2,3,4 angels. Maybe 0.0.1.2. In place angels I suggest cost eqivalent.

In CRBanks.txt
there's only one Shipwreck
when I edit the data here, it works only for the shipwreck with the access point left-right, but the other one (access point right-left) stays unedited, and this crashes the game.
Any advice?

1. Heroes3 txt configuration files are tab separated. If you romove one TAB by accident, you'll break whole file and game will crash.
2. That's why for editing such files the best tool is Txt Edit.
3. When you'll open crbanks.txt with this tool, you'll see things more clearer.

The other Shipwreck, is Derelict Ship, just below Shipwreck in the file.

Not quite... See in the Shipwreck you fight Wights and Derelict Ship you fight Water Elementals.
One Shipwreck is nose down towards East (avawrek0.def) and the other one (avawre20.def) to the West.

It doesn't matter. It's just graphics but mechanism is the same. Please notice, that in every bank we have four diffirent cases from easiest guards and cheap rewards to strongest. Maybe you edited one case and game played the other.

Here's what I've changed:
Shipwreck 1 14% 40 Wights 0% 0 None
2 14% 60 Wights 0% 0 None
3 14% 90 Wights 0% 0 None
4 14% 100 Wights 0% 0 None
5 14% 160 Wights 0% 0 None
6 14% 200 Wights 0% 0 None
7 14% 350 Wights 0% 0 None
8 2% 400 Wraits 0% 20 Ghost Dragons
Now the first Shipwreck I visit is avawre20.def. There the values didn't change as intended, they got mixed up, there were 5 groups with uneven numers:
Shipwreck 1 30% 65 Wights 0% 0 None
2 30% 95 Wights 0% 0 None
3 30% 165 Wights 0% 0 None
4 10% 205 Wights 0% 0 None
I mean so far, it's not bad, but after I beat the creatures, the game crashes.
And in some cases I get 45 Wights from which 9 Are Wraits, but no such data in the banks.txt

In editing the text files, note that only the "values" are used by the program ; the text is inidcative.
To change the creatures you fight its "hex editing" in datas (or once more, use other mod support).
I wrote a question for you on the "how to edit hota" thread about editing the creatures spellcasting. I suggest you search on there some answers there. Link here : how to edit hota thread
I don't know for "different kind" of shipwreak... I thought it exist only one kind...
Samely, have you changed the "rewards" ? Here again I think the type of reward can't be changed but value can (by text editing). I think the "crash" comes from here ? Not sure.
You made 8 kind of percentages ? It does exist in standard text file ? If not, program will only use the "normal lines" and if the total is not 100% its possible the "crash" comes from here too... As previously written, do not insert a line ! The game reads it "where it is" with original file ! So inserting a line/column will create bugz for sure... There is some editors who can change those files safely with "no chance" of making mistakes in saving the file... All is on "ERA" pack. Even if you won't use ERA, download it for the tools are made by incredible persons during the ages to mod... The text editor linked is one of these tools. Some others exist for edit graphics if you wish (but it will require some time to learn to use them).
Samely you can change text files for heroe's starting troop but it won't do anything until you change a part of data in exe (by hex editing). Amount can be changed in text file but not the "kind of unit".

Upgrade % change means that one stack is upgraded (not entire amount of guards).

It's just for "Shipwreck" the Delerict ship functions just fine, and I have made some changes there too.
Griffin Conservatory works with tweaks as well, no crashes.
I am keeping the % count to 100% precisely.
Testing on..
