The mistake (again) was to announce a website update without updating the website. What's the purpose to do it beforehand and just be quiet afterwards? "Coming Soon" just makes people grumpy.

I think you are mistaken on this one. The black screen error only occurs with the released version, after you actually paid money for it. During the beta/demo the game runs fine.

No, that's because too many people are paid for making cool websites to stir and capture people's interest for a game a year before release, instead of spending that money for additional programming and QC personnel.
Just saying.
And on a more serious note - keep in mind that making a game is like cooking a very complex meal: you have to start with the things that will take longest to cook, which isn't necessarily a good thing for the meal as a whole.

When you post something like this on Thursday:
"First of all, we will update the Academy faction page with new content as we did previously for Haven. Teasing is now over and the next step is the final reveal of all official concept arts and 3D renders!"
(some) people (including me) expect that update is ready and you wait for Monday to make it live. Maybe its better to say nothing about upcoming changes until its imminent.

We wanted to give you updates about what's coming, as a fan of several brands myself, I prefer to have infos as early as possible The update is almost ready but it's a big chunk and a lot of changes for the website, so we are making sure we are ready for the deployement.
No ETA for the moment, but it should be soon!

I want info as soon as possible too. That's not the problem.
We already knew that after showing all concept art next step is to update site with 3D models and creature abilities, but when you officially announce it I expect it to be ready and live in next few days. You could just post that site will get major overhaul, vote for collector edition was next and expectations for academy update would be much lower.
I know that I sound ungrateful but you should be very careful about what you post when there are people that search for every bit of information they can get. When we try to dig up unpublished URLs you should get a clue how badly we want to know EVERYTHING about this game.
