JJ, just in your opinion since you might know more than us given you're an insider, are Erwan and his creative direction staff all insane? Why in the world did they practically give us H6 Necropolis 2.0 in spite of all the rage they got? Why the hell are they so bent on screwing the fans over with Ashan? Haven't we all made ourselves clear that those emo guitar vampires and non-skeletal liches high on crack are not the way to go?

Yup.
It's certainly more acceptable than H6 or H7 Necropolises which are basically more Dungeon than Necropolis but things like the green toxic theme and vampires with Voltran swords started out with it. Taking the risk of being blamed with nostalgia again, I'd still say H2 and H3 got the tone and concept drastically better and more accurate. Who on earth cares about the consistency of the plot of Ashan? It's a frigging video game ffs, the plot is endlessly open to modification.

the color changes they did (which must have taken them a mighty two minutes of effort in Photoshop, the poor dears) are the "new" textures, pal
I hope you are wrong and we will get decent improvement to what we have know. If not maybe the pressure on official blog will make to do so.

Quote: It has to be a trick! They sacrificed Necropolis, so that the other factions will look like pure gold now! Knowing that Necro fans are the most loyal ones who'll take any crap for the real thing, they picked that.
Sly basterds, those marketing guys.
As I said, "Insider" is a pretty misleading term these days. "We" didn't know more than you or anything sooner than you with regard on Necro line-up or looks.
If you read my comments, I don't like either line-up or looks of Necropolis, but on the other hand - it's Ashan, and you get a name, but a completely different content.

Stevie said: So they told us in advance that they're gonna feed us the same Heroes 6 crap again and that's supposed to cut it? I think they expect us to appreciate it too, right? The problem is not that they warned us, the problem is that they did it anyway in spite of all the criticism. Them just bringing excuses before the fact just proves that they knew they were at fault.
Here's something for you, and Erwan alike because he doesn't seem to get it either: I don't care about Ashan, I care about good creatures and good factions. In this case, Necropolis. The Ashan version is NOT what you expect a Necropolis to be. Not in the slightest. Not in the lore since they're just a bunch of outcast overzealous heretics worshiping a Spider image, not in the creatures that look nothing alike undead, with some exceptions. Take this one for instance:
Tell me just ONE feature that connects this creature with the idea of a vampire. I dare you take this test: show this to someone in your house who doesn't play video games and ask him/her what he/she believes it represents. I took it with my mom and she said "knight with sword".
And excuse me, but Heroes 5 Necropolis was tons better than this Heroes 6 recycle. That's one of the reason it was declared non-canon.
If you can accept the franchise being compromised because of someone's Ashan crap then you have low standards. I won't accept this forced snow and I will be a critic about it since they target me as a potential buyer. If they don't want to listen then they can take their product and shove it down their butt holes.
The thing is that the "beautiful vampire"-type is nowadays actually much more common than the "nosferatu"-type
Giving them swords is most likely just a way to prevent their attacks from looking awkward(because a biting animation or something like that wouldn't really translate well into 3d),which is why we get vampire knights instead of regular vampires.

@LizardWarrior
Oh, thanks. I see no problem with spiders. IMO the only problem is reuse of old models...
@Up
Beautiful vampire is somehow part of Heroes tradition. Only ugly - Nosferatu type - vampire we ever got was in H3. The only problem with H6's model of vampire is the sword. If it was a little bit smaller... Just a little bit!

It doesnt have to be the Nosferatu type, clean cut aristocrat with cape will also do if it's done well but a vampire should look like a vampire. And saying a bite attack will be hard to implement in 3D (hence the sword) doesnt really make any sense, people pulled off much harder things in 3D. If you're going to put a vampire that doesnt look like one and that doesnt attack like one, why put him in the line up at all? Just put a mummy or zombie instead.

H5 vampires where nearly the same looking, beside 1 thing which was the pointy cape.
Cape which we can see in many movies with vampires and i didn't see such rage.
Let's just wait for upgrade update, which might make them look exactly how "harsh critics" want them.
Same thing with Liches.

As far as I'm concerned I prefer Nosferatu types but I do see the possibility for Count vampires as well. But not these ones. Let's be clear, a unit with a sword and teleporting moves would be cool in some other circumstances, not calling it "vampire" and expect us to fall for it, lol.

Well, I already said I see H5 as the beginning of problematic vampire looks, anyway. 2, 3, 4... I'm fine with.

There is one tiny detail that made them look more "vampirish" - fangs. In Heroes V they were clearly visible and although they also had huge blades like ones in Heroes VI, those two excessively big teeth makes them looks like vampires. In Heroes VI only their name suggested their nature.

Yeah or take the Vacuum Vampire from H4 for instance He does not need to bite in order to suck your blood out
BTW either Ubi just forced it on them just recently or the reveal of Necro was postponed cause they wanted to reduce the shock and flaming by showing some other factions first, but it's kinda strange that it took them so long to reveal a faction which is practically a recycle-fest...

i can understand biting being hard to do in a 3d TBS. But vampires never bit anyone, did they? they just clawed, at least that what it looked like to me and while i'm no expert, i can't imagine that being much harder than a sword-swipe.
and the h7 vampire is pretty pale. I mean that's some connection to vampirism. right?

Harder to see, because most of the time units are only as big as your finger tip.
I like sword, give him wider range to slash his enemy.
