That was, really, an unneeded personal jab ...

No, that was not my intention. I wanted to sum up his arguments in one line to show how absurd it sounds. Restrictions and faction/class preferences for magic schools spell for a more varied game where you don't get the same choices as every other hero in existence. He's also against Randomness because "he might get a bad skill" which is not an intrinsic problem of the random system but of bad skill implementation. There should be no bad skills. Heroes had it's flavor with the Random skills drop and it was unique in sense, whereas the other games put the choice exclusively in the player's hand. And we all know what that means - endless repetition of the same build, either because of getting used to that or because it's actually the best there is and all the other alternatives are weaker.

The point is not so much who's right and who's wrong, but I don't care for taking it to the personal level. You can disagree with JJ all you want and I encourage you to argue with all your heart for your case and against his points. But let him post his opinion, and focus your own posts on your opinions; when you start making posts with claims about what other people think - regardless of whether you are accurate or inaccurate in your description - it will inevitably come across as focusing on the person rather than the case, and that is not helpful for the discussion. I hope you can see the distinction between the two.

Whaaaaaah? Looks like an official paper!

on the topic i want complete randomness when choosing. like in heroes 3 and 5. you could choose between 4 random things. i still don't understand what this H5+H6 skill wheel.
you already could choose amngst 4 choices in H5. so what's with H6 thingy?

Wouldn't omplete randomness be having no choice of skills when leveling up?

Anyway, what do you not understand? Skillwheel, as seen in H5, is a system where each skill has the main skill and then several perks (some of them with dependencies of other skills/perks!). H6 system was no randomness and a skill tree.

From what they have said, in h7 we'll have a h5 skillwheel but with freedom to choose any skill and perk we wish (so not depending on the 4 skills/perks offered)

Classic but improved some, although I do think random skills non random perks could be interesting.

Ironically the idea of fitting magic schools into groups ties into one of my concepts from way back which you might be one of the only members left who remembers. This would be way complicated, but just to play along with the thought, one way this could work would be by doing what I've made a rough sketch of here:

Yes, I remember that one. Perhaps we even "crossed the blades" when trying to find a satisfactory solution . As for how Prime magic could be fit into this scheme, a good question. Perhaps it could be a combinatory skill, which features elements from all 6 schools. For instance, spell availability. The perks are additive to the perks of each individual school; let's say that Fire Magic has a perk that says "All Fire Spells deal 25% more damage" and Prime Magic has a perk that says "All Spells deal 10% more damage", then a Hero who has both Perks would deal 35% extra damage with Fire Spells. Something like that?

Perhaps Prime Magic could have a few select spells that don't fit to any of the 6 standard schools, being exclusive to Prime Magic - even though it's not a spell school like the other 6.

Indeed I am. I was happy to see more people defending the random skill system

Still 60% for Classic Random, and lots of ideas regarding both system implemented. And we still get non-random...
