Indeed you mentioned mounts somewhere earlier. Still your argument is invalid, as heroes V inferno heroes and a bunch of campaign heroes all do not use mounts

If angels as heroes are possible somewhere, it is in this ubi era. Regardless of how many heroes do ride a mount, at least some do not. Now compare that to the NWC era...
Besides, if the hero model is just supposed to represent the army, then we won't even need separate models for the angels (and minotaurs, etc.)

My thoughts, exactly.
Generic heroes (or tavern ones, whatever you like to call them) model should be based around the race creature linked to that faction (human to Haven & Academy, Elf to Sylvan, Orc to Stronghold...you get it). So an Angel Haven hero (or a human Sylvan hero, for example) would be fine with the standard human (or elf) hero look, since after all it's iconic and represents the army of that faction.
Campaign heroes could benefit from special hero models though, of course

Remember that in Heroes 6 many faction have mixed races of heroes. I.e. Dungeon has dark elves AND humans(Lorelei), Sanctuary may be a naga faction but most of its heroes are humans.
Angel Heroes don't have to ride horses or anything. They can simply float and slightly move their wings (not fly because that would be unbalanced).
