There was a time when people actually made their proposals about how would they like the game to be, but now they just criticize since H6 killed the mod.
I have to admit this is kind of cool. The world is not as organized as Ashan is, but that feeling of abstractness gives a senses of mystery that I can appreciate. I especially like the outpost faction.
Ironically seeing this world helped me understand why I was taken to Ashan so quickly, but again your world is interesting.

if you ask me, some folks should start on a total conversion mod of H5, basically keeping the core of Nival's gameplay, but swapping Ubisoft's hideous, plagiariffic Warhammer factions and art direction, disastrous campaign story and unusable map editor with replacements in the style of NWC
that would probably result in the best Heroes game since H3
As someone who likes warhammer and has been a fanboy for many years the factions are not similar to the Ashan factions in my opinion. Considering the voting is pretty dead even so far I think there are many on this forum who underestimate how many people either like or don't want ashan to be scrapped.
Storytelling has moved on, sadly.
Everything has to be told via cutscenes now; you can't have your characters tell the story through text,
they have to be communicating with someone, vocally.
Cutscenes are expensive (I remember when they served as "rewards" after accomplishing stuff) so most M&M utilize in-game models rather than prerendered cinematics.
This in turn makes it necessary to add a lot of detail on what used to be an simple icon representing a hero with an army.
You need unique looking hero models too, since it could be problematic with two identical looking knights talking to each other.
And that's not getting started on the scenery; everything has to be scaled according to the hero characters size (although H7 looks to move away from this somewhat).
Creatures in the games of old may not have had "how it's made" descriptions,
but I feel they were utilized fairly well in the various snippets of text that would pop up from time to time during missions to keep them interesting.
Like the two knights(?) trying to ride a Gorgon for instance )

That was mainly a critique of H5, and mainly limited to some specific units.
The art style was more similar to Warcraft though, with its stylistic exaggerated body proportions.
Look at some of the units though.
The dark elf Maidens and Witches definitely are more than a little inspired by their Warhammer counterparts.
The dark elves also ride Cold Ones--Sorry, Lizards into battle.
Moving on to Haven, with their Priest of Sigmar lookalikes and angels who greatly resemble Living Saints from the 40k setting.
Sylvan has the Blade Dancers.
The rest are either original or clichéd enough not to warrant any nit-pick on my part.
You guys seem to forget something. Nival was quite and accomplished developer even before H5, and they've already had their own style. You can call it cliched or sth, but H5 graphics firstly remind me of their other franchise: Ethelords. If you look into it, you'll see there are some similarities in the units designs/art style. At least, that's what I think...
Yes i think ashan should be scraped. The lore of heroes went down hill with the introduction of ashan as far as im concerned. I agree with pretty much everything stated by @LizardWarrior

I fully agree in terms of looks the dungeon faction look similar to the warhammer's dark elves. Still maybe its just how I view things looking at the faction as a whole they are nothing like dark elves. Considering they are one of my favorite factions in the warhammer setting next to chaos I just find them similar in terms of looks.
As how they function as a society its night and day compared to the two of them. I do like they changed their look direction in H6 maybe a little less purple but its a start. Considering the designs on the new units for H7 I am hopeful.
I simply consider how the factions functions as a whole than what they simply look like maybe I just place less importance on looks maybe I am a minority in this. If I think something looks cool or not I don't read too much into it. Now on to haven, I can understand if people think so with the alternative upgrade for the the priest but his base and standard upgrade? They don't look similar. Plus I don't know how people think living saint with the angel.
When I first saw it that did not cross my mind I simply saw it as another angel in a fantasy light faction. With a faction like Sylvan I saw a dual wielding elf that can move far I don't find shocking. I mean those kind of people are in all kinds of wood elven factions even the archers.
In my opinion something always starts from something else its how you improve and make it your own is what is important to me personally. Which it looks like they are doing with h7. The new haven/academy line up looks promising in my opinion, as a setting I find ashan quite interesting its just that the writers in my opinion are not going for the interesting parts of it.
Since in the main topic we had interesting discussions about how demons evolve and other interesting parts about the civil war within the sanctuary faction.
Plus H7 won't be an eclipse since that already happened I am quite interested to see the politics of the factions this time. Well this whole topic is subjective everyone has their preferences so I say agree to disagree.
I still personally found it quite suprising that the voting is even in my opinion. I thought people who wanted Ashan scraped was a majority when I first came here.
I was referring to looks, yes. I agree that the Ashan versions are rather bland compared to WH.
"I can understand if people think so with the alternative upgrade for the the priest but his base and standard upgrade? They don't look similar"
His beta version certainly did. They must have given him a helmet for a reason. http://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes5/pictures/haven/HOMM5_Haven_Inquisitor.jpg
"Plus I don't know how people think living saint with the angel."
Could be an unfair comparison brought forth partly due to the aforementioned. Anyway.
"I still personally found it quite suprising that the voting is even in my opinion. I thought people who wanted Ashan scraped was a majority when I first came here."
I haven't voted, but it's understandable.
I'd rather Ubi did their own thing in their little world than mess up the old (as if that didn't already happen in H4. Great stories tho)
To be fair, I really want the dragon gods, the overused races, the dwarves and everything else Ashan to be tortured, scrapped and deleted.
Ashan is everything I hate in games, and I really miss the good old times of HOMM3. It was SO much better.
Of course people (youngsters) like Dave are in love with Ashan, but I think more people and older folk hate it with passion.
So cut that ashan crap and move on to something more interesting. HOMM7 please be the last one! Fail like HOMM6 so we can move on with another compagnie who has some fantasy in its blood for a change.

Yes, I love Ashan. I dance of joy every time the nine faction limit is brought to the table. Or when someone reminds me of Queen Isabel. And did I ever mentioned H6 is the best of the series?

If so, you people should get a life or move to a another franchise. Ashan for now will stay, and nothing you could do can change this. (Unless you would buy the whole IP from Ubi)
See here people, the biggest line of defence of a failed world Ashan.

Moderator note: Posting offensive material is against the CoC, and claiming H6 is best of series falls in this category.
The funny thing is I meant to say Dave-Jame, not Storm-Giant.
Sorry for the confusion, now you have a penalty over nothing :-p

hi there, yes, I was referring to the graphics in H5, and some of the concepts (the dark elves faction is objectively a rip off)
there was a big thread at CH full of comparisons pointing out massive-scale plagiarism in H5, but the images are broken
I mean, who needs to use brain cells when you can just copy and paste the latest trends
as for the voting, if you want to pick that apart, look at the number no replies in this thread with caveats. most people agree there is a problem in Ubisoft
personally I'm shocked it's anywhere near half and half, I guess H6 really burned a lot of fans

Of course as I said in another post when it comes to factions I look at them as a whole. I even admitted I might be a minority in that fact when it comes to comparisons. Also about the voting there are many lurkers who don't post.
Plus the comments on the HMM7 website does not have the amount of hate you would expect. Even if you greatly dislike something there are other people who liked it.
Plus I don't think H6 sucked because of the world it was set in. In my opinion it was the gameplay more than anything else.
