The Sad Truth
They could have just made a graphic update to H3 and called it H7, and it would probably generate more sales.
I am also posting to see how many old timers are still around.

Would I buy such a thing? Would you?
H3 already exists in a game. It's called H3.
If they released "H3 HD" that would be fine, but calling it "H7" would be a lie. It's just H3 looking a bit better.

I wouldn't buy that. I don't think many people would.

I would, for sure. H6-7, I wouldn't even download for free, from what I see around.
Assuming that is a bit more developed than just a few creatures polished. Same mechanics, more content -towns-artifacts-creatures, 2D kept of course, then scripting language.
I buy that even double price.

How about Heroes 3 remastered? I bet people would go for it.
Adding HD at the end worked for FF10. It could work with Heroes. However they'd get some bashing if they called it something else than Heroes 3 [insert clever remake name here].

People would probably complain that the "HD" version doesn't have the HoMM spirit due to different graphics and stuff.

The Sad Truth I'd say is that we didn't have a proper Heroes game since H3.

H4 and H5 weren't that bad. But don't even think to mention h6!

More people stuck in the 90's I see. H5 was a great game, probably right after h3, so I have no idea why people complain about it. It introduced a new race, introduced new orcs, had all resources, more than decent campaign and so on. It was really great compared to H6.
The only minus was lack of maps. Why is 3D so unnacceptable for some of you beats the hell out of me.
So I'd say go ahead, ask for a remastered H3 and play the same game all over again.

I certainly would, especially if it gave the option of larger maps, and gave us a few more map objects.

Most of this is true, except the thing about campaigns, most consider those pretty well abysmal, at least the bits directly involving Isabel.

Because it came with tremendously high system-resource requirements.

The OP is not about making again H3, is about how sad the situation today. He means that H4-H7 are so bad that if H3 was redistributed with a few bonuses, people will still buy it more.

Can I ask you how old were you in the 90s? Because this is very important detail when criticizing nostalgia concept.

It is wholly impractical when you want to have a clear idea of what's what on the adventure map and don't want to spend time rotating it.

The 3D eats resources, is so simple like that.
If you don't have the skill to combine 3D with proper editor and gaming, you DON'T switch to it. Go ans read angry comments on mapsforheroes, almost every H5 biog map can't be completed.

I don't care if it's 3d or not, just lock that damn screen, rotating may be useful in other games, but not in a RTS like Heroes. The h5 town screens were so annoying that you had to rotate them and could barely see some buildings at max distance. Zooming the creatures on the battlefield is annoying too, just make the battlefield and creatures big enough to see their details, not like the ants we saw in H6 and decorations that are off the battlefield and occupy half of the screen.

H5 was a great game. What it lacked IMHO was content. Not enough interesting artifacts, only two (sometimes three with exp) spells per guild level, not enough interesting places on the map, you know like HoMM3's naga bank and so on. It wasn't balanced well too, some factions just stomped face later in the game, some owned early on. It's not too different from HoMM3 and necromancers on XL map, but.. yeah.
As for town screens, I didn't particularly like the "round" design, but it looked okay, I guess. Better than the "let's place buildings randomly" HoMM4 style. I missed the HoMM2/3 style though where each town fully built looked like a piece of art. Especially some HoMM2 towns looked great when fully built, Necromancer was my favorite.

The fact that there weren't separate dwellings for every creature in H5 was a minus too, the military posts aren't that interesting. Every creature should have its own map dwelling, sure, they could put buildings were you could recruit all cores/elites from a faction, but they should be an addition not a replacement for the individual dwellings.

Hahaha you know I'm probably going to make a lot of you sad, but since H3 I've liked H4 and H6. I don't like H5 though.
I'm always at a minority though for some reason
