the most iconic creatures per faction..
yet another voting..
you can choose two creatures per faction
1st one must be the most iconic creature in your opinion
the one that resembles the faction, that simply you can not imagine the faction without this unit
2d one your personal favorite, can be different from 1st creature or the same (edit: changed the rule here)
needless to say the creature must have had at least one appearance in the faction
list of all 11 factions in HoMM series (with number of appearances)

I believe that some factions have more or less icons than others. To make a little aparté, there are those creatures like for instance Gargoyles and Griffins, who were entitled to Warlock (aka Dungeon) town in H1 and H2, that switched to install themselves respectively in Tower(Academy) for the Gargoyle and in Castle(Haven), after being part of Nature(H4) for a short time, for the Griffin. Harpies, moving from H3 Dungeon to Stronghold for all the later titles. Rocs, from Wizard to Stronghold. Centaurs, are an interesting one ; first appearing in Warlock, to integrate perfectly Rampart and moving again to Stronghold, staying there more than 2 games for the first time. Medusa, neutral that went Dungeon and disappeared after H4 ?
  Gargoyle and Griffin in H2 Warlock.
 Harpy in H3 Dungeon.
 Medusa Queen in H3 Dungeon.
 Roc in H2 Wizard.  Genie as neutral in H2.
For expressing iconic, my strong belief also relies on visual, I tried to explain my logic associating colors to the creatures.
