Btw, would be nice if the problem with having apostrophes in bb-coded links could be fixed.

Forum View Update
To earlier posts:
- Requests for minor improvements and bug fixes not related to the layout update should be posted in appropriate threads in Turban Tribunal. Putting them in front of my face while I'm working on something else is annoying, and this way I won't find your reports when I'm actually wanting to fix bugs and looking at the appropriate bug reporting thread.
- The whole advertising / adblock discussion resumed somewhat in the Community Banners thread, and I think a big part of the issue was addressed with the introduction of the HC Supporter feature. Let's get back on subject of the layout update.
Now the news:
The forum view layout has been upgraded to be consistent with the new homepage layout. I realize that some people may get quite upset about the loss of "spaciousness" inside the table, just like they did with the homepage update - but this will again be the case of getting used to the new design. (Don't worry, I'm not planning on making thread reading pages narrow because full width is useful there.)
For detail-curious folks, these are the improvements under the hood:
- pages generate even faster (although forum view pages were pretty fast already)
- around 25% reduction in HTML size for faster page downloads
- several small visual improvements to make the table easier to scan
- big improvement to forum page navigation: instead of links to all pages there is a new adaptable function and PREV / NEXT buttons (this improvement will make its way onto thread reading pages in the future)
There are also a couple of neat features that were there before but some folks may not realize:
- there is a useful thread filtering feature at the top middle of the table
- you can click red stars to go to the specific QP post
Let's avoid a whine fest and keep this thread constructive. The forum view will remain standardised with the homepage. However if you have some minor improvements to suggest, please do so. If there are any glitches or bugs introduced by the design update, report them here.

How about three filtering boxes instead of one?
Filter by age
Filter by replies
Filter by rating
Would make it easier to use. Currently it's very crowded in there.
You could also make it allow filtering by multiple categories also.

If I may make a suggestion: how about a button to jump to the first unread post? Already the forum indicates whether or not a thread has a new post since your last visit, would it be able to jump to the first new one in that thread?

Thanks for the feedback.
I've improved the Thread Filter menu by making it more visible with yellow text in front, and by adding category headings inside the drop-down menu.
I've made the original filtering options when the forum was much younger, so I think they need to be reviewed. For ACTIVE heading I've added a "last 3 years" filter. What options do you think we should have for REPLIES and VIEWS? I don't want to make too many options to avoid making the drop-down too long, so I want 4 or 5 options (each) for REPLIES and VIEWS headings that would be the most useful. What filtering ranges should we have?
Related question: what are your thoughts on the best order for ACTIVE, RATING, REPLIES, VIEWS? I want to order the categories by usefulness.
Also improved the forum jump box that appears at the bottom of forum view and thread view pages. Previously it was a mash of different forums in a strange order. Now the box has a clear title, category sub-headings and everything is ordered exactly the same as on HC homepage.
Jumping to unread posts - not at this stage, as I haven't looked into the mechanics of the legacy feature that determines what is unread.

I would arque that active category is not needed in thread filtering, the forums are already arranged with the activity so you could drop them all together.

After a bit of tinkering I've added a significant new feature - thread title search. This search works for thread titles only and does not search post contents, however it is lightning fast.
I imagine that title search will be very useful for finding topics in a specific forum by a keyword, for example "creatures" or "music" or "HotA" or "ICTC 8". This feature will add extra emphasis on naming your threads well.
Also added a sorting selector which offers 3 new alternatives to default "last reply" sorting. This made REPLIES and VIEWS categories in thread filter drop-down menu obsolete, so I've removed them.
You can even copy & paste the URL of the page with all of your search, sorting and filtering parameters. So you could for example make a link that shows the most active threads for your mod or the most viewed entries for your contest.
There are acronyms throughout - hold your mouse pointer over underlined words for info.
That was quite a bit of new stuff to put in, so let me know if you come across any bugs.

I will be removing the old homepage soon as it is incompatible with some of the new developments and it is inconvenient for me to maintain and upgrade two separate versions of the homepage. It has been almost five months and I hope that everyone had enough time to readjust to the new look.

As I promised I have made/changed the new HC homepage in html. I made it via "view page source" and firebug because I had no access to the original source-code so it may have some incompatibilities with the php scripts and database, as well as most links point to nothing. I have decided to go with a mixed theme with elements from both h3 and h4, also I have used only textures/images that come from these games so there won't be copyright problems. I have sent the page to Valeriy via HCM already and I'm waiting for his response.
If you want to make some changes to it or just to see how it looks in the browser, you can download the offline html page from here(WARNING: link expires in 7days)

Something is wrong with the Random Thoughts thread, it opens up extremely zoomed out all the time despite any settings. This only happens on a tablet and on that specific thread.

Updated the navigation links on thread view pages:
- Instead of links to every single page of the thread there is now a short list of page links generated by a dynamic formula that scales to the size of the thread. Basically showing the most relevant start, end and middle page numbers instead of all the page numbers.
- PREV and NEXT page links added for ease of navigation, especially handy for touch screens.
- Moved PREV / NEXT thread links on the bottom of the page to the left side for consistency and made them more visible.
- Added four thread size ratings just for fun
This improvement was especially targeted at huge threads like the Heroes 7 discussion thread (over 1300 pages at the moment). Aside from much tidier appearance there is also a significant download size reduction - HTML of the pages in Heroes 7 discussion thread is now approx 3.5 times smaller. All the page links were adding about 230KB to every page load in that thread, compared to less than 100KB of actual page content!
In combination with finally fixing the slow loading / posting times issue two days ago, this change should make HC more pleasant to use. Happy New Year to everyone and thanks to all the contributors, moderators and HC supporters.
