"fishing troubles in the middle of a lake". LOL.
i'm seeing what you mean, galaad. i'm guessing this is just filler? was there some kind of time slot they had to fill? whatever. it's not bad, regardless. i like that they brought the 90's batman to voice this one(so far that's all i've heard that i recognize; i don't remember batgirl's voice). when it came to DC character voices, nobody could really beat the 90's cartoon show. those voices are, for me, the real deal.
edit: hey, i just realized. the "fishing troubles" guy is friggin' xerox.
edit 2:WHAT THE...
just how old is batgirl? naughty naughty, brucie.
edit 3: yeah, the first 28 minutes most certainly aren't "the killing joke". maybe it was an intro into the whole "abyss" thing? at least it was somewhat entertaining. but it certainly didn't belong in the movie. it was like a preview for a batman soap opera, or something.
edit 4: ok, finished it. i prefer the comic book version, actually. the art in the movie took a lot away from the story. they could have done so much better. the actor who voiced batman kind of lost his touch; the gravelly, colder voice from the 90's is gone. and i didn't particularly care for his laugh at the end. sounded very manufactured.

Of course the comic is better, and in a way very hard to port on screens. I don't agree with Conroy losing his touch, he just got older.

Haha
Well that last scene I guess just doesn't work on screen, their personal input should have been there, instead of the batgirl side-story during the first half that is not related to the comic whatsoever, and well yes Fred I guess you spoiled it, there is absolutely no way that could ever happen under such circumstances let alone even at all. My take on it is they felt the comic was deranged and created this controversial scene, but really in some cases just stick to the comic please. I mean after the first 15mns I actually checked if that was really the Killing Joke I was watching.

It was known for a while that there would be a batgirl prologue of sorts. It is understandable and I don't mind the idea. Whether I will like the execution remains to be seen but it's not easy to meet the high quality from the rest of the comic.

Ah, I didn't check any spoilers prior to watching so it was a complete surprise for me. Well yes why not, but why in the first place as well. Maybe he just took it one step too far. Overall at warm I'd say the overall execution of the movie is good, and some of the screens coming straight out from the comic are great.

I didn't know anything either, but while watching the film I understood (I think) the first part and didn't mind it. For the Killing to Joke to have real impact you had to have some character development. You must remember that that character was hardly ever shown on the screen since the 90s cartoon.

You didn't mind what happened on the roof?

I disagree with this, the impact of the novel is not focused on Barbara. Also I just watched a Bruce Timm interview where he says the main reason for this prologue was because they needed extra material otherwise it would be too short for the screens.

Mind? No.
Thought it was necessary? No as well.
They could've done without it, then again it sort of made sense and helped tie up the first story.

Because it gave her the last push to go berserk which in turn led to her decision at the end of the story.

bruce timm was involved? now i'm mad that they didn't make a Harley Quinn prologue. i mean, batgirl is cool and all, but next to Harly, she's nothing. like having a potato next to a strawberry; which one would you pop in your mouth to enjoy it's deliciousness?
but i think the reason they added the batgirl-specific prologue(aside from filling the time slot), was because you got to know her a little bit, and see her humanity, before she took a bullet in the spine and was confined to a wheelchair. so that that bit would have more of an impact on the viewer. which was actually a good idea, now that i think about it.

Yeah after a second watch and more thinking I'm starting to accept better the batgirl prologue. I still have issues with that roof scene, just feels wrong to me.
I raise my score from 7 to 8/10, there is much more hits than misses.
Yeah and not only Timm but also Burnett heh, no wonder it feels a lot like TAS.

bruce timm, if i'm not mistaken, is the guy who actually created Harley(i think there was an argument between himself and someone else over the actual creation). i'm a fan of his female art; the sexuality in his art is much more subtle(leaves more to the imagination) than say, rogue from the 90's xmen cartoon(although whoever drew rogue was the snowing man, as well. comparing tim's work with that guy's, is like comparing a sexy pantyshot, with a stripper). i'd love to see timm's private work, that he doesn't share with anyone else. i've seen his more NSFW stuff, and it's good.

IIRC Harley Quinn was created by Paul Dini, and Mad Love novel was absolutely fantastic, I would love to see it ported to the screens as well.

Yeah just looked it up, apparently she made her first appearance in Joker's Favor episode of TAS, was indeed created by Paul Dini but other sources says they created her together with Bruce Timm, my huntch would tell me there is more Dini than Timm in the character though. The inspiration actually came from the old Days of our lives movie:
