On one hand it was agood idea - finally magic heroes had their own units! However, this created other problem - every unit had magic resistance as one of its stats, which weakened already quite powerless Blood Magic heroes (theones for offensive spells). Comeback to system, where spells only deal magical damage will turn out to be better than what Heroes VI proposed, because it was used five times in Heroes franchise and every time it played well.
