You know, this actually deserves its own thread. Which unique creatures nwc created(or at least gave them a unique perspective), which ubi created and how much each 'succeeded'. I know, subjective term.
As a nwc example I would cite the behemoth. Nothing like it's been described in other sources but goddamn awesome.

I have worked with 3d models  I know that making an animation is easier since you already got the articulation points, but there are 6 factions plus neutrals. 14 creatures per faction and let's say they add 8 neutrals, that makes 14*6+8=92 useless animations, or let's not count the upgrades and it still comes 7*6+8=50 useless animations. Then they could just modify the existing lich model and add a skull which you can download for free from the internet, yep it's true that you need to import it, integrate, add articulations, re-texture, but it's still easier than making 50 or 92 new custom animations

@LizardWarrior: I had the feeling the problem is not ony the lack of a skull? But rather the feeling of the lich itself. Something a few changes in polygons could not mend
