Agreed, Inferno could be way more awesome. I love its graphic, but the damage is disappointing.

They typical are I think, but in unison they work great and are two spells that significantly improved by going expert... having a level 7 stack remove 50-75% of another level 7 stack and then bring that entire stack by saccing some level 1 units..

They tried to fix that in H4 but it did not work out too good either as the damage on certain "fire" spells became way too potent.
It is a delicate matter to balance damage/scaling towards non-damage spells.

I don't remember much about Inferno in H4 I gotta admit.. I remember being disappointed in Armageddon (in H4) though.

about fireball high cost I couldnt agree more actually
you see that with only basic fire magic they cost exactly same mana, with inferno having more area and damage.
but about my earlier post, when I said inferno should go 25 power, well maybe thats too much. I just played dungeons and devils and saw inferno can be quite good vs neutral creeps (I could probably hit as much as 6 stacks together)
but then again, that is probably is impossible against human (why would they even pack their stacks? also keeping in mind that diffeculty for that level was 100% not that hard i guess, so maybe even against neutrals not that useful.
so, I think having 15 power will be fairly balanced, I guess

The AI does tend to consider position with respect to area spells, most definately. Especially on the higher difficulties, it will avoid clustering up if it can.

I think all fire spells dealt the same damage in H4, except fire bolt which was 20% stronger. so armaggeddon was basically a fireball the size of the whole screen. I would say inferno was one of the worst level 4 chaos spells to get, when you could instead get mass first strike, cat reflexes, cloud of confusion or even mass misfortune.
