To play a game is not the same kind of effort as to participate in a visual perception practice and improvement program. Those two efforts are neither similar nor compatible. It is very wrong to demand that the player treat the game as some kind of a mix of two.

It is also very wrong to treat a serious perceptional issue, like placing visually very intense focus point on the lower left corner, as some trivial game modification and expect that players accept that as a part of a traditional player-to-game adjustment.

SO, why not avoid not only total game ruining experience, but potentially very serious perceptional issues, and stay true to the game tradition and define the ATB bar as the creature/hero acting duplicated as both a large icon and a small icon?

Playing a game requires visual interaction with the screen, and the change here improves that interaction. Game tradition?? Come on, it has nothing to do with the "game" and it's rather a long standing bug, rather than a tradition... All you have to do is open your mind and see it for what it is (was):

The ATB bar now is as simple as it gets: the first icon, which is the large one, is the acting creature/hero, and the small icons constitute the remainder of the queue. This is much more straightforward than the previous awkward behavior, where you have the large icon duplicated also as a small icon. Totally redundant and confusing, especially considering how the ATB bar used to progress with two icons disappearing, to be replaced by the same creature/hero: too much visual mumbo-jumbo. There is now much less visually distracting activity at the lower left corner.

So, I'm not 'placing visually very intense focus point on the lower left corner', it's exactly opposite of that! I'm actually relieving focus from the lower left corner!

I think you misunderstood me.
I am actually saying that YOU are insisting that players accept modification that changes the way the game battle screen visually worked all these years.
I am actually saying that you are trying to push greater amount of interaction into the bottom left corner, greater than the game had all these years.
I am actually saying that the way game battle screen worked all these years did not make me sick in my stomach, and now it does.
Therefore, I will just remove your mod and use the old one. Perhaps it would be nice that your new mod is placed outside main MMH55-Data file and that game comes with the instructions how to remove your mod if anyone feels sick.
In my opinion, this issue with stuffing too much interaction in the lower left corner is serious issue.
No one really needs that kind of unnecessary visual guidance, it’s just annoying, it disrupts gameplay experience on the whole screen.

@ThGryphn: I don't see yet what the disorienting part is of the ATB but i have found one issue that makes me realize we need to change it back or otherwise fix. If you hover the mouse over one creature it is supposed to highlight every position of that creature on the ATB bar, but the creature in the large icon cannot be highlighted. This is important if multiple times the same stack is on the battlefield.

Also if you get into it, i noticed too late the goblin 3rd rage bonus should now just become one cell instead of 3x cell with same text.

Why not make the relevant border movement radius proportional to map size, and make governance faction based only, so that governor can become any hero form the same faction as the city?

One of the issues that makes me very reluctant to touch this  is the town management code is very complex and it is now bugfree, if i start poking around in code i haven't touched in more than half a year i run the risk of doing more damage than good.

Previous behavior, where you have the large icon duplicated also as a small icon, addresses problems of the lower left corner pretty well. Not only that the player could completely ignore big icon and focus on the small icon, but the same big icon and small icon together, somehow allowed transference of attention from the lower left corner to the actual screen positioning of the relevant creature.
Both big and small icon of the same creature/hero in the lower left corner dissolves perceptual separation of the lower left corner and makes it contextual part of main screen focus without disrupting main screen focus.
Creature/hero switching in the lower left corner without big-and-small icon-visual-buffer separates lower left corner too much from the rest of the screen.

Thanks for this awesome mod. I have a problem that you may solve. When I install heroes5 and expansions from uplay and then install tote patch 3.1, I still see version 3.0 when I open tote. I can then install this mod but we get checksum error when we try to play mmh5.5 maps in multiplayer (but can play other maps fine). I will try installing heroes 5 first then 1.6 patch, then hammers of fate and 2.1 patch then tote and finally 3.1 patch and 5.5 mod. Do you think this will solve the problem or do you have any idea how to solve it? Thanks in advance.

hello eadan, it should read version 5.59a when you open the game, you are likely not installing the mod in the right folder. Only TOE is relevant, if you can install it standalone with patch 3.1 it is already enough.

The large icon does not (and did not before) light up, but when you hover over it, both the corresponding creature on the battle field lights up, and every other representation of that same creature lights up on the ATB bar. Nothing changed there... I literally only hid the repetitive small icon.

Yeah, I realized that about the goblins, I'll get to it before the next update

You're not making sense at all. How is hiding an icon 'pushing greater amount of interaction'? I'm claiming I'm doing the opposite: there is now much less visual mumbo-jumbo going on, but a smooth transition of icons. You may not "like" it, and that's your opinion you're entitled to, but arguing that it objectively makes it worse is just nonsense. You basically have no argument...

"Ignore the big icon and focus on the small icon"?? Don't you see that just doesn't make sense? How do you ignore the large icon that's in-your-face and try to focus on the small icon?? I mean, come on...

"somehow allowed transference of attention from the lower left corner to the actual screen positioning of the relevant creature"?? I'm sorry, but this is a lot of BS... Again, you have no argument other than your personal dislike, which I respect.

Still not working. I installed steam version of the game which is version 3.1, and then the mod. My friend says he still sees game version 3.0 when I create a game and whenever I try to open any mmh5.5 maps (that comes with the mod not armg maps that I created) he says there is a RMG in the title and he gets a "load failed" error when he tries to join. I read the facebook post about activating scripts but it didin't work. We can try with you in case there is a problem with my friend's installation.

Ok if a steam version is involved, do not use any steam app to start the game because it will point to wrong exe, load the game from the MMH55 exe directly, check the data folder if it contains  MMH55...pak files (so it was installed properly). if the RMG creates a index.bin file in your data folder delete it, since it can cause sync issues.

I have noticed for some reason the h55 demo maps don't always work in LAN because they are in .pak file. (if you don't need them anymore they can be thrown away) So better use your own made RMG maps after they are patched with reanimation patcher (shortcut in startmenu).

Thanks, I will try this. I have the MMH55...pak files in data folder. The post about multiplayer troubleshooting also said to delete "RMG TEMPLATE" folder but I have "RMGTemp" folder. Should I delete it before every game too?

Also after I activate scripts in map editor and try to save the map I get an error "As you have changed the map, rmg marker will be lost and multiplayer regenaration won't work." (https://postimg.org/image/z0q98f4rr/) Should I not activate scripts in editor but use reanimation patcher instead?

?? dredknight will have to specify this exactly since I don't understand what he means.

You can ignore the error message about regeneration, you will always have to send a copy of the map to your friend since the MMH55.exes cannot generate maps properly as explained in ARMG.

reanimation patcher does EXACTLY the same thing as activating scripts manually.

IF this is in DATA folder than yes. There should be no folders whatsoever there.

What Magno said. By activating scripts all random elements on the map are preset so at the end the map you save is static.

The default maps in the pack have the "RMG" red mark which means they are still not preset. A map element that is random for example "Spell shrine" will be set differently for both player app configs. For example the spell set in the "spell shrine" can be "eldritch arrow" for player 1 application and "stone spikes" for player 2 application.

So whenever a player tries to join RMG he will get error because if incompatible databases.  By saving the map scripts all random stuff became static. Then this map is distributed accross all players so everyone gets the same map with the same predefined elements.

This is my theory at least.

Regarding Steam, I believe it launches H5_Game.exe which does not work for MMH55 mod. Never tried it myself but had the same issue with Game ranger. You point the Heroes V folder and it searches for bin/H5_Game.exe. As a workaround I renamed H5_Game.exe to H5_Game_original.exe and then renamed MMH55_64.exe to H5_Game.exe. Then Game ranger launched the MMH55 mod instead of ToTe .

This should be done by both players in order LAN to work.

So my friend can't download the map by simply joining my game and I have to send him the map after activating scripts? Can we try together when you have time? Maybe my friend is doing something wrong. I will send a message to the facebook group.

The creature currently acting is highlighted on the battlefield, so there is no way one can mistake which stack is acting. So, I still don't see the point of reverting, other than to please a singular forum member.

It is not about not seeing which stack is acting, it is for comparing the situation between cloned stacks. If you use split stack strategies it is possible up to 5 times the same '1 peasant stack' is standing on the battlefield, when you hover over a 1 peasant stack it is important for speed of perception that every instance of that peasant is highlighted on the ATB bar including the first, which is currently not working.

That's what I am saying: even if you have 5 different 1-peasant stacks, only one of them can be currently acting (corresponding to the large icon), and that stack is currently being highlighted on the battlefield. So, when you're hovering on it, you can see that it's highlighted and therefore is the acting stack, and you cannot mistake it. Plus, as usual, other representations of that acting stack will highlight on the ATB-bar as expected.

So I still don't follow why it is crucial to highlight the large icon. What would it help with, when all the information is already there?

You are again arguing about it as if it is about the ABILITY to perceive, but I was talking about SPEED of perception, which is improved if the first instance is highlighted.

Since it is a minor issue i will however see if there is any follow up on this issue here and on moddb.
