Washed out textures (old problem from h5 in 5.5)
Ok, I've read lots of topics related to this problem http://www.celestialheavens.com/forum/2/9717
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/493090-Texture-problems-after-changing-RAM
I have no problem with washed out textures in ToE, but after installing any version of 5.5, this always appears. As far I know, it has something to do with ram - so in options in the game, I started altering them & I found that changing image quality from High (or above) to Normal or Low would solve my problem... to some extend. You see, when I choose "Normal" quality, I don't get washed textures, but whenever I go to town to build some structures, whenever I load a save game & whenever I buy creatures in the town (when the model of creatures is shown in right side) all graphics turn into "washed style" - in this case, I always need to go to options & to change quality to "low or normal". I would like to know if there is some way to solve this problem because it's so annoying to change quality everytime it happens (this happens a lot).

I also get this when I try to play MMH5.5 on an onboard Intel graphics chip. One of my laptops also has a discrete NVIDIA GPU and I have to set the game to automatically select that GPU (otherwise it defaults to Intel and I get crappy textures). Stock game plays just fine...
I figured it must be the graphics memory issue but I didn't bother trying to find a solution... Is there?

64bit OS and exe here...
oh and 1920x1080 res and just like above, the problem is resolved upon switching to Normal graphics quality.

It is a memory issue that exists with certain video drivers, it already existed in TOE. What fixes it, is limiting the total memory use ram+gpu ram to 4GB so if you have 1gb gpu ram you set OS max ram to 3gb.
This can be done by using msconfig. click start -> run -> msconfig -> tab: boot -> advanced options -> tick: maximum memory 3072 -> . Restart your PC.

magnomagus said: @dredknight: could you tell mr grcevic on facebook i have recently updated the moddb article on mapmaking with the info on regulating artifacts on a map, also some info both useful to you and him:
-patching maps while already playing them (loading saves) does nothing,
-patching them while playing singleplayer will also accomplish nothing,
-also ANY map that already has ANY scripts does not need to be patched EVER.
Very nice!

I will put this in the troubleshooting/bug log

I have the same problem and only solution that works for me is that I make the switch between window mode and a full screen mode at the game main screen, before beginning anything. Doesn’t matter witch order, what matters is that change between window mode and full screen mode occurs at least once. After that whatever mode is running, textures are fine. Resolution doesn’t need to be changed, just the mode.

Incidentally I managed to test 4-player death match game through tungle using PEST. I can say 5 weeks in the game (medium map + underground) now it is pretty stable .
Here are a few observations though:
- The count of people increase the lag, so do not try to do any actions 1-2 seconds after autosave completes or before the game has begun saving (it is possible if you are very fast). This way you will queue an operation that cannot be handled by the app due to waiting for other people to save as well so it will disconnect you from the game.
The same can happen in 1 vs 1 player game as well but things are working pretty fast there so the chance is low.
- The game takes quite some toll on the CPU than playing a single player or 1v1 game. I dont know why but I think the lag and the constant connectivity between players is to blame. However take in mind that my PC configuration is not that new and I use an old spinning disk.

Good news,
I was browsing through some of my old h5 'random stuff' folders and thought why is this d3d9_memfix.zip file on my harddrive?
It turns out this is the REAL fix for the blurry textures:
d3d9 mem fix
This file must unzipped and placed in your bin folder

Holy cow! This is really the fix! No problems even at 3440x1440 with integrated graphics!

Small request for fans of the project who like to see more activity around heroes 5.5. Please consider writing review on moddb.
I can see you thinking there are already 25 reviews and they all give 10 so why would I care?
The problem is RTS and FPS games are much more popular on moddb and mods for these games have huge amounts of reviews, make it very difficult for TBS games to get higher up in the browsing lists (which have hundreds of thousands more viewers than Heroescommunity). Moddb is also very strict the first 15 reviews did not even count and it lowers the rating of the mod if you don't have lots of reviews.
So even if the review only says 'nice work' it already help great deal and also if you click on the 'agree' button above another review it helps too.

This file indeed solves all problems with washed out textures without the need for any other actions. Perhaps it would be nice to upload it to moddb, or to include it in future releases?
I wrote few good words for this good mod on moddb.

Are you planning to add new creatures/spells in the future versions of the mod? How about new skills with perks, is it possible to add them?

MMH 5.59a ATB Revision
Alright, here is the full revision of the ATB bar in the most recent MMH5.5 (5.59a):
MMH5.5 (5.59a) ATB Revision
What's changed:
1) Large icon is back (YAY!.. nah, of course not, but the game files do not let me remove it without some kind of an unwanted side effect...)
2) The artistic knob in the middle of the ATB bar is gone.
3) Accordingly, I redesigned the Runes bar.
4) Scroll buttons (arrows) are made smaller. This is for two reasons: for one, I really thought they were too large; two, making them smaller enables having symmetrical distribution of icons on the ATB bar.

@ThGryphn: Thanks I really like this one, this is the 16:10 one right so it fits 16:9 and you can later add 4:3 patch? (if there are no further complaints about it in next coming days)

@magno: Yes, it's the 16:10 version and I'll send you versions for 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 21:9 By the way, you obviously need to overwrite the files in the MMH5.5 data pak, and there is a short list of files that are no longer needed (and should be deleted) which I'll send you via PM.
Edit: As a final entry in the change log above:
5) Redesigned the bonus Rage info window. Now with less shiny text, subtle (actually transparent) borders, better color coding for easier reading the table, redistributed columns for better text fit with the same font size across the board.
